Does anyone know how many space are on the home map to actually build on?

This is a somewhat harder calculation, since it is largely affected by how you place your buildings and what type they are.

Each building generally consist of 4 squares, a 2x2 space. Other buildings require more space, barracks is a 3x2, the same goes for some of the special buildings.

But some of the placement positions are blocked, since treestumbs are placed at the corners of these squares, making it a very un-even playing field.
That alose means, that if the placement of 1 building is off by 1 square up/down or sideways, it could jam potentially a huge number of building slots as you expand.

I hope you understand what i mean by this :)
