View Full Version : No caps rule - What a joke.

First off, this is gonna be a civilized but not a very sugar-coated post. So I am to understand no caps are allowed in general chat within the game? Well if I may quote Charles Darwin "What is this s**t?". No caps? I can't recall any other game with that rule, and for a very good reason. Let's say my village is destroyed and I ask in general if anyone would have pity and send me some resources so I can begin anew, it makes very much sense that I'd start "OH NO" or end with a "PLEASE". My point is, there are times when there is a reason to shout and a GOOD one. Let's say in the future a guildy of mine becomes a father and announces the news in general chat (why not?) and I want to congratulate him, it makes a lot of difference if I say "gratz!" or "GRATZ!" because yes, caps means shouting, and if that is such a big deal to the admins then they should understand the difference. That rule is STUPID, NO OTHER GAME USES IT, WHY SHOULD YOU? It makes sense to me that someone is punished if he writes everything in caps and won't stop even after warnings, but no caps at all? Sigh.

Dislcaimer: All written herein represents my opinions and mine alone, no one has to agree.

Anyone actually got punished(banned) for typing a single word in caps?
I don`t think so...
What exactly is the problem?

On the whole I agree with your position: it's a stupid rule.

Unfortunately, people will start spamming CAPS if given the opportunity, and it is much easier to just ask people not to use caps as a rule than to moderate those who would use them too often.

As soon as people stop abusing of CAPS in the chats, we can get rid of this rule.

PS: my only rule about discussing rules on the forum is that the discussion needs to stay calm and constructive. Please tone down you messages if you do not wish the thread to be closed as your initial statement is very agressive.

It's the excessive use of caps that are frowned upon. Use caps properly and the Mods don't have a problem.
Spamming the caps will earn you a taxi ride to the quiet zone.

at some point I do agree, but then again, Azariel explain is most of it.
people abuse the chance, I do lot's of chat at first, it was good and great conversation, there was a time that global-1 is look like a graveyard because no one is chatting, but now... well it's different

I do not think the ban is in place to stop you using caps to say 'OH NO' or 'GRATZ' it is more to do with people who spam with caps and abuse them causing problems for everyone else in the affected caps. Im sure you feel irritated by the rule but surly you can move on from it and I dont think it is going to cause you any problems enjoying the game.

Ps I know of 2 other online games that have a NO CAPS rule.

Claydon82 This is not the place to be complaining at you should contact support and also it is not fair of your to insult the mods with those kinds of words, you maybe mad and annoyed but posts like that will not help your case.

You are absolutely correct Emsy, in spite of your abuse of the English language, to send us to the Support forum where abusive moderators can be patted on the back by other abusive moderators....

As a person who has been in chat rooms since before HTML and when FIDO was still moving your emails(took as long as a week to send an email back then) I can tell you the only method that works well, I said well and not just works, is to allow people to block other players. Cuts back on abusive moderation. Cuts back on the need to sugar coat the chat rooms. Allows each individual the dignity to choose their own set of rules regarding what they consider to be offensive. Also allows a player to 'curtain' themselves from people they find annoying.

My understanding is that 'any' chat room on the internet considers the use of caps to be shouting at other people, and therefore rude. This isn't a rule particular to this chat and it's so easily to comply with it too.

i'm just glad the game remembers you last chat room now, i used to hate seeing general chat - i would minimize it the moment i logged in.

1) there are more rule enforcers than chatters
2) people always jump on the bang wagon, it can't be left at 1 person to say something (particularily about caps etc) too many others chime in.
3) trying to adhear to a pegi-7 rating is daft in an adult game (are there any 7 year olds with the patience to play this?)

I think a lot of it stems, IMO, that community mods are a bad idea for a game you can buy in shops. (im not saying THE mods are bad, but the idea of community mods isn't good)

If people are paying for a game, they expect a level of service, that service can NEVER be given by community mods - they are simply not accountable enough, worst thing that can happen is their title taken away, rather than being sacked IRL.

generally the game is very good, but it has growing/teething problems as it becomes a retail product.

My recommendation - take a leaf from blizzards book, don't use community mods and give people an easy to use ignore list. it will quash many many more problems and perceived hierarchy of community mods. (and lack of level playing field between people who think mods in guilds will treat members disparate)

Balgra - in the last 2 days I've seen one 8 year old and one 11 year old join, and several members say they allow their kids to play. so yes there IS a need to keep it Pegi 7. Plus I don't think BB decided the rating. i think PEGI decided that for them so they have little choice but to adhere to the rules.

I think this topic is ridiculous.
Seriously, there is no bigger or more interesting issues about this game?

Practical points about using caps, say for all postings - are actually harder to read - most people actually read words by word shape recognition, hence minor spelling mistakes are easily ignored, in most places capitals are for emphasising a point / basically shouting the point. In a convo, this can actually raise the anti and get people wound up to the stage they stop being reasonable and open to comments , like calm down.

As for those moaning about being banned without warning, they should take note that many players do warn (and then get insulted by being called wannabee mods, I mean peer warnings should be more graciously accepted!), and mods DO warn before banning. Just because they don't receive an individual, named warning , shouldn't be a big issue. . .

On logging in, people should watch chat for a little while, else they might find they are jumping into the fire without looking! On the whole, while not necessarily agreeing with all the ins and outs of chat policy, I must say that the mods do, do a good job under sometimes difficult situations.

Ive been banned from chat due to my name as a MOD thought that it broke the naming policy as this game is pegi 7. Ive contacted support about name changes several times but they move as slow as a sloth, probably due to all the other silly issue that come up due to how hardcore the MODS are being. I cant use any chat functions and i cant find trades. I'm hoping that it will get the issue resolved sooner rather than later as its beginning to annoy.

Just to add i did get banned from chat by a MOD for 15 minutes for saying that i was 'pissed off' about something. I think the devs should just remove the chat from the game full stop because the amount of lolness that will occur when MODs are that strict will bring the game to its knees!

When you push the PEGI7 boundaries then the ban is deserved
