Upgrading the Mayor's House

Hi all I am sure there is an easy answer to this but can't seem to work it out. The Mayor's House requires 800 hard wood planks to be upgraded but the limit on storage is 700 how is this then possible? Is there somewhere else you can store it that can be used towards this?

storehouses.

the storage room is shared. so building 1 or more storehouses (needed to claim a sector anyway) will improve your storage spacce.
