I only have 125 at my curent lev as i`ve only played for 2 days, I dont intend to buy any more, so 2 questions rly.

1. Whats the mose usfull thing to buy.
2. Apart from hard cash where do they come from.

I read in one guide that when I get to 95 I should buy a nobel residence, what benefit does this have over anything else I could buy with gems.

While I agree that you shouldn't buy any gems per se, you should purchase the Starter Pack from retail stores with 2500 gems, a Watermill (unlimited water) a Silo (unlimited grain storage) and other useful items to use ingame. This boost in gems would then allow you to purchase enough footballs from the Trader to get a Friary, which isn't available in the building lists and allows you to produce four times as much Brew as a Brewery.

If you don't want the Starter Pack, it depends on what level you are actually at for purchases, but I wouldn't recommend spending it right now. There's not a lot you can get for 125 gems and a Noble Residence is awarded to you at a higher level, but 200 will get you "another" starter pack that provides resources and settlers, whilst 300 can get you a geologist that finds resources much faster than the default...

It's a shame you can't trade footballs for gems - that really could be a difference-maker for those not bothered with the Euro Championship. You also receive gems from a number of consecutive days logging on, or occasionally through completing important quests.

Noble deeds do not require a building license.

screw buying resources and save the gems for 10x license packs (650 gems each). Do not buy anything you can easily produce ingame, it is a waste.

I only buy with gems when I gather enough: recycling plants (3 available 990 gems each) and building licences x10 (650 gems each). Noble deeds, footballs, silos, watermills you can buy these with coins so no need to waste gems on this. This is only my opinion.

Thx for all the quick replies, think I`ll take all your advise and save them for licences later on down the road.

They still should make it so that any footballs not spent are converted into their equivalent gem-value.

They never have with previous events and there is no need to start now.

woul dbe silly to convert footballs or eggs or pumpkins or whatever to gems after events really- nice for players- disasterous for bluebyte

The event items are earned from quests and daily rewards and would then be saved up en masse by players for a free conversion to gems after event and presto- cheap gems to buy all kinds of premium goodies

cheap gems from events= less gems sold= bad for bb
availability of cheap gems = encourage cheating with double/triple accounts for easy access to premium items= bad for BB

and yes- the cheating would happen as it is far too easy to do as is (run account from home and from work and no one will ever know) and if the incentive is that big then be sure people will go through the effort to do so

so 1) it creates a loss of gemsales and 2) it creates a big headache in monitoring for BB to combat cheating- which means it will cost em more money due to extra resources needed to maintain same level of support

How do I purchase the Starter pack from Retail stores? Where can I find the retail store?

Play and Amazon both stock them. The original post isn't quite right any more the Euro Cup event is over so footballs cannot be used to purchase anything, however you can buy the Friary with gems. The Silo also tops up a wheat field at a rate of 1 wheat every 12 minutes.

All gem/event bought buildings do not cost anything in in-game resources - so zero wood, stone, building licenses to place. If you demolish them then they appear back in the Star menu so you can place them again.

It's generally felt that Silo's are expensive for what you get if you buy them with gems as they don't actually make a field "unlimited" unless they have the same level as all the farms using that particular field (so a lvl 3 Silo would only keep up with a lvl 3 Farm or equivalent). I personally think that some of the deposit top ups are actually very worth while. The Iron top up (+750 Iron Ore for 45 gems) is very good as the mine is expensive to build and if you apply adequate buffs you can significantly increase the amount of resources coming out of it with a levelled up mine.

The actual starter pack is brilliant value for money - 2500 gems, a silo, a watermill and a vet. general. If you bought the equivalent number of gems it would cost significantly more. I'm not sure if you can only apply one to your account though.

Unless there is either: something you *really* want or: there's a limited item; I would however hold off buying anything until you reach level 17 or so and are able to trade as this does change the way you play quite significantly.

Why cant I apply it on my account? Have you got the link to Amazon or play for starter? I am level 16 at moment close to 17. I personally don't see the need to buy resources unless its unlimited;)

I had this conversation recently ingame.
My own personal choices were licenses and noble residence deeds over recyling and silos;
A recycling plant produces coal, with 10 licenses u can build a full coal chain a warehouse and keep 2 licenses for other uses and its alos cheaper in gems.
A noble deed gives population free of licenses, so u dont have the need to spend a license to increase your population for a low amount of gems.
For the watermill, upgraded replaces 3-5 mills, and later u will need lots of them (50 or even more) so it will become useful LATER.

The friary its rather expensive, but igot my own from the event so can say anything about it.

You can buy noble deeds, water mills and silos, with coins from the trade chat.

I recommed to buy, 1 veteran general, x amount battle hardened general(s) and x amount building licens.

With 1 veteran general and x amount of battle hardened general (s), you can play all adventures.
(normal generals can be bought coins from tavern)

Look for adventure guides how many battle hardened generals you need, 1-3

Link to Play (http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/31407528/The-Settlers-Online-Starter-Pack/Product.html?searchstring=settlers+online&searchsource=0&searchtype=allproducts&urlrefer=search) and Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Settlers-Online-Starter-Pack/dp/B007UE16E8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342622592&sr=8-1).

The reason you can't buy it on your account is that it's a physical box and BB won't have a distribution network in the same way as places like Play & Amazon :) That said, I it would be nice to see a "pack" bundle where you get a few special items directly for money rather than buying gems.

As for buying resources, I agree with you, with three exceptions - raw resources for Iron, Coal and Gold mines. Iron mines cost 250 hardwood planks and marble, coal is 200/200 and gold are 1400 of each. This is a significant investment of mining time (especially for gold) at lower levels so pouring an extra "blob" of raw resources will pay dividends, especially as you can get 45 gems for free if you play every day for 7 days in a row.

Oh I also discovered that each upgrade to the Friary actually increases everything by a base of 4 - so Lvl 1 = 4 beer; Lvl 2 = 8 beer. This actually makes it really worth while at higher levels as a Lvl 5 Friary will produce as much beer as 20 Lvl 1 Breweries or 4 Lvl 5's.
