Dear settlers!
Today we are happy to present to you the latest developer news with a more long-term perspective.
The graphics are representative. The final design may vary.

The EC-Event has been running for some time now.
This event will be taken offline in two steps: first step on the 5th of July, second step on the 12th of July.
The first step will stop players receiving any new adventure that has to do with the EC event. From step 1 to step 2, players will be able to finish their started EC adventures and sell or trade in the shop any leftover footballs. After step 2, remaining footballs will stay in player's inventory but they will not be able to earn/buy more or exchange them for shop items. Any EC adventure you start after step 2 will not earn you footballs (only experience points).

Building: The Gem-Pit
Building: The endless Coppermine
Adventure: “Wild Mary” balancing
While the EC-Event is running there will be an update introducing two new buildings: The Gem-Pit and the endless Coppermine. The mine can be upgraded to level 5 while Gem-Pit is not upgradable, nor can you buff it. Furthermore the awards for finishing “Wild Mary” will be corrected. Compared to other adventures the payout was too high, due to an error that occurred at the end of February. The balancing will be respectively corrected.

The EC-Event will finally be shut down (phase 2). The new marketplace will be delayed till August because internal tests showed that it still needs some adjustments.
In return not only bug fixes are expected to roll out at on 12th of July, but some new features will be there too (depending on internal and user tests):
Buildings: Preview production path / way time
Buildings: Display how long a buff will last
Buildings: Upgrade a building instantly for gems
Interface: Changes and improvements
Info bar: Population tooltip
Provision house: Larger interface + display of output amount
Buildings: Preview production path / way time
When placing a new or selecting an existing building, production path and time are displayed on top / on the info window.
http://static2.cdn.ubi.com/F2P/TSO_UK_CM/Images/DevDiary_06_2012/2012-06_UI_Wege.jpg
Building: Display of buff type and remaining time
A buffed building‘s info window displays the rest time of the buff.
Building: Instant upgrade
Buildings can be instantly upgraded for gems.
http://static2.cdn.ubi.com/F2P/TSO_UK_CM/Images/DevDiary_06_2012/2012-06_Buffzeit.jpg
Interface: Changes and improvements
The playing surface was improved and prepared for new functionalities. The tasks of building-construction were merged into one icon. The selection window is now wider and the various groups of buildings can be reached via tabs. The new tool-box is now part of the construction menu and you may permanently keep it on screen with the pin function. The ability to move the building is not yet completed 100%, so it is currently still disabled (see screenshot). Moving buildings is expected to be activated with the next update.
http://static2.cdn.ubi.com/F2P/TSO_UK_CM/Images/DevDiary_06_2012/2012-06_Toolbox_Abriss.jpg
Info bar: Population tooltip
The info bar gives you more detailed information about the classification of your settlers: the number of non- and employed workers, troop’s availability and which troops are assigned to generals or not assigned at all.
http://static2.cdn.ubi.com/F2P/TSO_UK_CM/Images/DevDiary_06_2012/2012-06_Bevoelkerungs-Tooltip.jpg
Provision house: Larger interface + display of output amount
The provision house, after selecting an object to be produced, shows how many items are produced in total within the production. The interface was also enlarged optically.

We’ve been working on new elements for high level players in order to increase the level cap in the future. An important part will be the new science system. You will be able to gain skill points and use them in different kind of skill trees. Furthermore there will be new units and new adventures for high levels. An important step will be the re-balancing of the units in advance.
Please keep in mind that the dates are estimations and may differ. The features have to fit our needs in terms of quality and technical aspects and they have to pass several test phases (one is the pre-staging test you’re welcome to participate in).
Buildings: Upgrade a building instantly for gems
I hope that has a confirmation button.
love it, and what will the price be on the Gem pit, the same as the test server, cause that is a lot on their (20000) ! Really looking forward to seeing it in the real server!
Is there any plan to implement some way of keeping track on how many buildings of each kind you have?
This event will be taken offline in two steps: first step on the 5th of July, second step on the 12th of July.

Important note:
The EC-2012-event will be available for a limited amount of time! After this time, the special EC daily quests and EC adventures will not be available anymore. All the footballs you have gathered till then may be traded for the special items for one more week after the end of the event. We will inform you about the exact times and dates.
As above

@Mattc062: as far as I know the price will be the same as on the test server.
@Gabkun: the economic overview tool that's being tested right now should help you there.
@Dynuel: sorry, got mixed up there... The first step will stop players receiving any new adventure that has to do with the EC event. From step 1 to step 2, players will be able to finish their started EC adventures and sell or trade in the shop their leftover footballs. After step 2, remaining footballs will stay in player's inventory but they will not be able to earn/buy more or exchange them for shop items. Any EC adventure you start after step 2 will not earn you footballs (only experience points).
Hope this helps!

lookin forward for the updates. Hope it wouldn't disappoint us.
ok, so talking about 2 steps, he meant:
step 1 - taking off the matches - adventures but leaving the items
step 2 - (week after step1) removing the special items that can be purchased for the balls
ok sound clear, thanks Tirerzt
[edit] thanks BB_Azariel its all clear now ;D

i missed that line .
i do hope they realized that the current trading system is a pain .

Same price of 20k gems for the endless copper mine too - well it is on the test server.
Apparently you missed that one too mate, 20k gems are for the gem pit
pretty sure you didn't check the test server yet .
20k gems for a "Copper mine"
about 120 us dollar for a Copper mine ...
im that case im out of the equation. no chance.
pretty sure you didn't check the test server yet .
20k gems for a "Copper mine"
about 120 us dollar for a Copper mine ...
Lucky we don't use US dollars!

Lucky we don't use US dollars!
About 99,99€ for copper mine or gem mine. Out of my league, I'm afraid.
Lucky we don't use US dollars!
US dollar is money like pound or Euro , you can read more about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_dollar
120 us dollar = 95.3 Euro
120 us dollar = 76.5 British pounds
you can use the American search Engine Google.com for easy money converting .
my first post about the price were my opinion to admin/dev/people at ubisoft/BB in charge of putting the prices .
and i really don't understand why you troll/backseat modding almost every post/topic at this forum .
i hate to go offtopic but i had to reply to that "bit"
have a nice evening Tarzan .

Is there going to be an option to opt out of PVP, alot of us and myself included like this game because we don't get attacked and can just build and talk with others-we have put so much time and effort into creating our settlements it would be more than heartbreaking to see them destroyed and also there would be a large migration from TSO onto other games.
It was because of the PVP on Travain I actually joined TSO in the first place, and I know others have done similar!
What's (exactly) wrong with Wild Mary loot?
Buildings: Upgrade a building instantly for gems
I hope that has a confirmation button.
yes it does
No Olympic event and no settlers on Epo yes a tour de France event
Was looking forward to that :S
Economic adventures sounds like a good addition as I'm more interested in trading that fighting, Bandits are too intimidating lol, I'm intrigued in how these type of adventures will work.
Looking forward to the timer for buffs and can't wait for the economic adventures. Nice to see some 50+ stuff coming in too
I know some will disagree but I'm gery glad to see non-PvP stuff taking precedence. I do hope there's an Olympics event in the pipeline too.
Dear settlers!

Hi Azariel, this seems to imply that once acquired, EC adventures may be started at any time after step 2. Is that correct? If I buy replay matches from the Reserve Bench in the trader before 5 July, is there no time limit on when they may be played?
dose anyone know what the production time will be on the gem mine. I did some quick maths and if the price stay the same (20,000gems) and it got the same item time as gold production ie 24 min+transport time then it will take nearly a year to pay for it self? (347.2 days or close to) that not really worth the investment. I'm hoping for an olympics event as well since they add some spice to the game. Quest keep you interested in the down time between advancements and adventurer.

20k gems?!?!?!
Why are you people putting so much efford in something that will impact less than 1% of players?!?! You really should change your first page from "free online ...." to "the most expensive game ever"!

Production time is 13mins 9secs + travelling time. Assuming things don't change when it goes live, cost is 20K gems & it produces 40K gems over a one year period.
I was a little suprised to see there doesn't appear to be a limit on the number of gem mines you can purchase (other than the size of your wallet, I suppose). I managed to build two on the test server & I presume I'll be able to build two more after 6 months are up. Of course, the test server is likely to be wiped by then, so I'm only guessing
well it better than i thought it would be i suppose. Still need you to stick with the game for at least six months to get your investment back. I would hope they start chucking in a load more stuff to you keep you occupied for that length of time??

Fully agreed. I hate getting attacked all the time and have no interest in destroying the hard work of others. I left Travian because of that, despite the lovely...

Yeah ... I personally think the concept of a gem mine is a good idea.
Even so, 20K gems is around 75-80ukp at current gem prices (around 10 quid cheaper if you buy the retail packs off amazon to fund it). It's a big ask, even for those who can afford to pay it.
Edit: Assuming you have no gems to start with, the cheapest cost of one gem mine is currently 67.12gbp/83.58eur with 8 x retail packs from the 'preferred e-tailer' + all the other Paraphernalia. Quite what you'd do with 8 additional Generals is beyond me but still ...
How's about a scaled-down version, perhaps a smaller return for less cost & one that doesn't blow up in your face after a year, eh BB?
Am i missing some thing why would it blow up in your face after a year???
BilboBadger

Am i missing some thing why would it blow up in your face after a year???
Because that is exactly what it does. Ok, maybe that's a bit dramatic :) It runs dry after one year & with no way of refilling it, it becomes useless.
Whichever way you look at it - it is still expensive & a huge ask for something that is supposed to be F2P. I don't know if there are any other ways of obtaining gems (I'm only lvl 22 & have spent most all of those I've picked up thus far) but at the current F2P rate of 45 gems per week its going to take over 8.5 years to get one.
& whilst I'm on the subject of charging exorbitant prices for 'micro-transactions', yes I have used the gem store but I haven't bought one of those Veteran Generals - @ 5k I have no intention of buying one either.
The one in the test server has a confirmation button.
I hope that has a confirmation button.
I don't really have a problem with the cost of the Gem Pit for 20,000 gems. For those people who are in it for the long haul and have a flexible friend, the Gem Pit makes some sense, providing you completely ignore the economic principle of opportunity cost.
The Endless Copper Mine, however, I'd be curious to know the maths behind exactly how BlueByte arrived at 20,000 gems (or £75) being a fair and reasonable cost. In fact, overall, I believe the items available in the gem store are overpriced by a factor of five.

And what about those that are in it for the long-haul that don't have a flexible friend at their disposal? I doubt there are many (if any) 7-18 year olds that have plastic at their beckon call. OK, they may have their parents but that's another argument entirely - and one I can testify to. In my particular case (& I'm sure I'm not alone in this), as a player & a father to another player, I'm not having to pay once, I'm having to pay twice.
This game is 'sold' to Joe-Public as Free to Play yet the longer it goes on the more obvious it becomes that, yes, you can play it for free but to be 'competitive' (& I'll include PvP here) you need deep pockets. The irony is that while 'those that can' keep paying the prices, there is no incentive to drop them. This, in turn, creates a 2-Tier game by splitting the populous into those that can & those that can't/won't.
I'd be very interested to know how many people are considering PvP & how many of those have bought one or more Veteran Generals because you can bet that PvP will be repleat with them.
The Endless Copper Mine, however, I'd be curious to know the maths behind exactly how BlueByte arrived at 20,000 gems (or £75) being a fair and reasonable cost. In fact, overall, I believe the items available in the gem store are overpriced by a factor of five.
:) & I presume that when the tooltip says something along the lines of 'Amortizes after 600 days @ base extraction rates', they mean it too will disappear in a puff of smoke just like the gem-mine does.
EDIT: The Endless Copper Mine is like the Silo/Re-cycling plant, etc in that it can be taken down & goes back into your Star-Menu. Dunno if that adds anything to it's value or not but useful to know, nontheless.
Just wanted to add my 2d's on this. Looks like some good stuff upcoming, my biggest concern is the gem price of new features and buildings. Bottomless copper mine is way too expensive and auotmatic update I will never use. I am already assuming that moving buildings will come at a steep gem cost too and am greatly concerned that the new science system will be gem intensive to boot.
I was, to be honest, shocked to see the bottomless copper mine come along at 20k gems. I know this has alarmed many other players as well, considering the number of posts here and in the test forums, and it is very concerning that no dev has even acknowledged they are aware of this. I understand a game is made to make money for the developer, but I don't believe some of the costs in this game are justified.
BilboBadger
19.06.12, 09:58
I'm sure they are aware of the concern; they can read & they also participate on the test server.
To be fair to the devs, I doubt they are the ones controlling it. To quote Qui-Gon Jinn: "There's always a bigger fish" ... :)
Nice, so I can just buy all adventures from the Reserve Bench now and do them whenever I want (for the great XP).
Sorry but I have to push this issue. It feels like they are not connecting with us on this issue.

The price 20,000 gems (£75) for the gem pit or endless cooper mine is to high, and only 1-2% of players will pay for it.
You really should change your first page from "free online ...." to "the most expensive game ever"!
The game is still free ... You can play it without any cent of real money investment.
YES some things take more time, but you can play the game like other paying people
If you play every day, you can earn 45gems per week, and after lvl 32 you will get 170gems per each lvl.
so after some time of playing you can also buy premium items from the gem shop.
I like events, like the Easter or UEFA event, where you can earn some spacial buildings, generals or building licences (+5 +10).
I am looking forward to see this science system, the new trade system and mostly the Economic adventures :)
But I am not happy with the situation on home islands ...
after lvl 32 is there nothing happening :( is there any chance to add some feature with bandit of pirate attacks ?
I imagine that once per week one or two bandit camps will randomly appear somewhere on the island.
Around this camps will be a area which will grow every day per 1 square, and all buildings within this area will stop production or at least slow the production by 50%. when you conquer this camp within 1 week you will earn 100% of resources steeled from you by this camp, but after 1 week you will get back only 50-75% of steeled resources. Also the strength of the camp should depend on player lvl.
The price 20,000 gems (£75) for the gem pit or endless cooper mine is to high, and only 1-2% of players will pay for it.
I actually think that 20k for the gem mine is fair enough, you are essentially buying a year long subscription, which £75 is not outlandish for and recieve £150 worth of gems over that time.
Is there any plan to implement some way of keeping track on how many buildings of each kind you have?
http://ceo-economy.appspot.com/#
every time you build you can add them to this and you will know what you have and how many materials are available over different time scales.

The question is ....
Do You really need so many gems ?
What will you buy ? ...
100 pine wood for 28gems
100 stones for 75gems
decorations 35-500 gems ?
You can earn 2340 gems by logging every day, and several hundreds of gems by playing the game and rising your lvl...
Together with week rewards it can be approx 3000-3500 gems per year.
The most necessary thing from the gem shop is the veteran general.
Other useful things are : Building licences+10, Watermill, geologist and explorer.
I hope the veteran general will be again available in next events :)
I hope the veteran general will be again available in next events :)
Well you can certainly hope ;-)
I actually think that 20k for the gem mine is fair enough, you are essentially buying a year long subscription, which £75 is not outlandish for and recieve £150 worth of gems over that time.
Exactly. You've hit the nail on the head. It's a subscription. Another way to look at it is this: it's effectively a loan to the developer, which pays 100% interest in game currency. That's a good deal for anybody who currently spends as much as £75 per year on gems.
I think it's rather sad that so many people feel it necessary to complain about this. It's the income from expensive items that will fund the further development of the game, so that everyone else who can't afford them (including me) will be able to continue enjoying the game. And anyway, the gem pit is the last thing that anyone should complain about, because (aside from the building) it's not even a game feature, it's just another way of paying for gems.
The question is ....
Do You really need so many gems ?
What will you buy ? ...
100 pine wood for 28gems
100 stones for 75gems

Golden Parrot for 75 gems.
You can sell it on the open market for about 210-250 gc. With the gold coins you can buy loads of resources :)
None of the other resource/adventures items are compatible with this. I am expecting that gem-trading will be an option real soon, if that happens the influx of gems will increase as people can then actually buy something with their gems.
I seem to have taken both sides in this argument. To clear up my position I think the gem mine is ok as it is the equivalent of a lump sum subscription and works out pretty good value for gems. Bottomless copper mine and instant upgrades are badly badly overpriced as it currently stands.
Can anyone confirm that do the reserve bench matches stay in your star menu after the "step 2" ?

Actually, that is the whole point of Micro-Transactions & the Gem-Store. I agree that development needs to be funded somehow (& a profit made by the bean-counters, if you will). Micro-Transactions are the F2P way of currently doing it - to fund development in a way that the old-fashioned way of collecting via subscription has been proven not as effective. Making it F2P gets more people through the door, whereas subscriptions don't. More bodies = more opportunity. Fairly straight-forward.
But the argument here is not that there should not be a Gem-Store, it is at what point do Micro-Transactions become 'extortionate' & I think everyone who has voiced an opinion, one way or the other, has agreed what their cut-off point is.
At the end of the day, the choice is with the player, isn't it? To buy or not to buy. So long as those choices don't impact overall game-play, then it shouldn't make any difference, should it? We'll all have to wait & see.
BB Azariel!
My suggestion to Gem-Pit:
Most of us can not afford buy 20K gems for gem pit. It's most of us incredible price.
Should make four Gem-Pit category:
1. for 2K gems. Gem-Pit produce 2400 gems (20 % bonus).
2. for 5K gems. Gem-Pit produce 6750 gems (35 % bonus).
3. for 10K gems. Gem-Pit produce 15K gems (50% bonus).
4. The original for 20K gems. Gem-Pit produce 40K gems (100% bonus).
U can set up which gem-pit how many time can be purchased.
I can speak in my name, I sure buy gem-pit for 2K or 5K but never for 20K. so if this possible then please.

This to me sounds like the best idea in this Diary, adding a whole new dynamic to TSO, I've had the same idea in my head for ages and recently made a thread for the idea of a Research Building.
Though personally I feel this should not be a higher level thing but another side of this game from the start.
If you also have great ideas for this new science element please feel free to post these on this thread (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/18150-A-whole-new-dynamic-to-TSO-The-Game-Changer), now is the time after all while it is still in the works!!
To BB, it would also be helpful for both the community and yourselves if you could post the very ideas your tossing around for science if you want feedback on any details you feel are up in the air so please post as well :)
the best browser game atm by far
im loving what you are doing and rly an awesome job
looking forward to every single update/patch incoming for this year..
If i buy the rematches before the end of the event to store em in my star menu. Is it possible to play them after 12th of July?

I'm really pleased to see all the new developments (new trade will be awesome) and was really excited by the new buildings until I saw the price tag - OMG!!
Why make the endless cu mine so expensive?? - surely many more people would buy them if they were cheaper - like the recycles - well worth getting and especially for people that sometimes can't log in for long periods of time (as searching for mines is very time consuming, not so bad for copper i know but still).
Surely many many smaller transactions would in the end be far more overall than a few large transactions - please please bring the price down so that average people can buy or save up for them. - You will start to alienate many people as it will just become a game for people with lots of cash to spare which can't be that many in this current climate.
I have bought many gems to say thank you to the game, as I would have spent if I had have bought the game to play, but 20k gems for a copper mine really is crazy in my opinion.
Hmm, yeah agreed - too expensive. Some great ideas but ... yike, how much?
But let's think about this a bit. If they put the Copper Mine on the store at 20K gems & people do actually buy it, it kinda sets a precedent should they then decide to bring out Endless Mines for the other resources. I shudder to think how much they'd expect us to pay for an Endless Gold mine
Also, if there's an outcry over the price of the Copper mine now? Just think of the uproar there will be once people have already bought it & they then decide to drop the price ...
Sounds great, the PVP and lvl50+ anyway, makes me freeze my account for half a year instead of just stop playing permanently. Anyone know if my account gets deleted if I don't log in for a set period of time?
as a oldy, who first played settlers 1,2 & 3.I find it hard to see red numbers on a brown background,as in upgrades.
Any chance of making them more visible please?

FYI:
Small change in the text: "Guild quest system: first the weekly Guild quests (approx. Aug), more daily guild quest features will follow afterwards"
Any news on how much moving building will cost ?
I'm having second thoughts if i should upgrade some buildings i plan to move.
It would suck to find out in August that there's a huge difference in costs between lvl 3 and 4 and it would've been better not to upgrade.
There is this but i doubt it's true : http://www.siedlertools.de/wiki/Benutzer:Camou
was asking myself the exact same question
There is one thing I don't understand even afther I reread the announcement many times. How is that there is a football EC Event and any info about if there will be any Olimpic Event and I would find it to odd that there is a football EC Event and there won't be any Olympic Event.
•Features for Level 50+ (approx. Fall)
Seems to me that those that bring in a lot of money to the game, will have notting to do for a few months.
I guess the gempit is an attempt to making them commit to the game. (pay now , and get your gems in 6 months)
Can we please clarify whether the endless copper mine is truly endless. What do you mean it amortizes in 600 days? You're not paying off a loan or a mortgage because you pay 20k gems up front and no ongoing repayment costs so this is a bad use of english. Do you mean that the mine runs out after producing 250,000 ore and is not in fact endless at all like it was on the test server? If so you're paying 2 gems in advance for every 25 copper you eventually produce (plus the loss of resources spent upgrading.)
If this is true it should be renamed. Calling it endless and then putting a meaningless english phrase that many people wont understand in the small print is just wrong.

1stly:
1 lvl 600
2 lvl 300
3 lvl 200
4 lvl 150
5 lvl 100
But I think the question was how did they count this 600 days bayback.

regarding the ec matches will that mean that any replays will need to be completed by 18 july or will lose the chance to gain the exp ?
Amortize has been removed from the copper mine description. The word was being lost in translation and misunderstood. Copper mines are unlimited supply of copper
It's still present on the live server description but hopefully it will disappear soon. It's a very misleading way of describing how the copper mine works. You are not buying it with a loan or mortgage or calculating the depreciation in value of an asset. Even if they dropped "amortize" and said the investment pays for itself in 600 days it would be very questionable. You can't buy gems with copper so you can never recoup the original investment. You'd have to be basing it on the cost of buying copper refills for gems and making assumptions about the distance from the mine to the storehouse.
Presumably what they are trying to say is that once you have mined 286,000 copper you'll have paid less per gem than if you had bought 572 refills in the gem shop.
No plans to update the mail INBOX with adjustable columns to resolve multiple players' issues with "400 marble for 4....." ??? This would be a huge improvement!
After 12th the buyed footbool adventures diddetn get lost from the star menu?

The first step will stop players receiving any new adventure that has to do with the EC event. From step 1 to step 2, players will be able to finish their started EC adventures and sell or trade in the shop any leftover footballs. After step 2, remaining footballs will stay in player's inventory but they will not be able to earn/buy more or exchange them for shop items. Any EC adventure you start after step 2 will not earn you footballs (only experience points).
can we exchange footballs for xp?
yes? how many xp do we get for one football?

Previous events converted excess rewards into gold. I very much doubt they'll convert the balls to experience.

Will there be any chance that production times will decrease when PVP is released? as i don't see to many people sticking around if they spend days building up only to have 2 or more people demolish them in the space of a few seconds.....

i think i will buy settlers on cd for $10 no need to buy anything then at anytime
Is there any plan in the near future to make it possible to trade buffs? Not in the sense of buffing each others buildings with baskets each player has made themselves, like what happens now. But instead, Player A making a buff, trading it to Player B and then Player B using it to buff Player A. I ask because I have some snacks from EC event but need to upgrade the buildings I want buffed first. It might take some time and finding a swap might get more difficult later.
