View Full Version : Gold Coin Production - Worse than Bankers!
I simply cannot beleive the math!
A Gold Ore mine contains 300 ore and costs 1400 Hardwood, 1400 Marble and 1500 Tools - per mine!
To smelt Ore into gold bars you need 2 Ore and 8 Coal to produce just One Gold Bar. Four Gold bars produce One coin!
A Gold Ore mine therefore produces no more than 75 coins! With the additional cost of 2400 coal used in the production of the Gold bars! (I'm also writing off for 'free' the 4500 Hardwood 4500 Marble and 5500 Tools used as a one off cost to build the Gold Smelter and Coinage building in the first place!)
I am sure anyone will realise they could produce:
1400 Hardwood,
1400 Marble
1500 Tools
2400 Coal
and trade the lot for far more than 75 Gold Coins! (I just traded 400 Coal for 35 coins!)
So what is the point of this production system or using it to produce gold goins?
Sorry I don't get it!
You don't do gold production without buffing it, buff the mine, the smelter and the coinage ALL the time they're active and that mine will get you 300 gold coins per mine.
that still isn't alot though>
but later when lvl40 or more when you have 5 coinages and 5 gold smelters you will produce close to 2000gc per day. just don't start gold production early.
It depends also on market conditions and whether selling other materials and trading are more profitable.
Also depends on whether you have hotdogs or not.
: )
it just by the way, if you don't buff, your calculation is wrong :
300 ore for 1 mine
2 ore = 1 bar so 300 ore = 150 bars
4 bars = 1 coin so your 150 bars produces 37,5 coins
Yup, it's even worse ....
Me too I sell ressources for coins. The market is pretty good and I calculate that for the same ressources I can get 300 coins easily.
Wich brings me to compare that to Terghi's comment. Buffing it all brings 1 mine = 300 coins. Well with no buffing I get the same by trading ... So why would someone produce coins then ?
Well .... First the market is uncontrolable so maybe tommorrow coins value will drop, who knows.
And Martonus points out, maybe that you don't want to play the market all day long and prefer to do your own production and have friends buffing your production chain. Effectively, this way you might be able to make more coins/day, but imagine the amount of coal (means a lot of buildings) to produce 5 production chains of coins !
Definetely, I keep trading !
you must use buff on gold prodaction
300ore = 600 ore = 600 gold bars = 300 coins
gold is gold but 4 gold bars = 1 coin how big are the coins they must be so large come on settlers why dont you make it one bar makes 100 coins but make everything cost more? that way it would make more sence
If you buff ALL the time and use the free gems to buy Golden Parrots and never let the mine run out you can make gold easy.
always have the Mine/Smelter/counage buffed when they are working.
Then you get gold easy.
It's a slow way to do it but it's gold. But remembe DO NOT LET THE MINE RUN OUT. keep buffin git with GOLDEN PARROTS

so is it worth upgrading the mine for 500 tools? What does that do to its production?
I am on level 29 and built a gold mine with the plan of buffing it and then letting it sleep when it got low until i had some method (parrots?)to replenish it.
I presume at some point the timber/tools/marble will not be an issue whereas the lack of gold coins for upgrades will be?
Well everyone plays this game different i find the combination of trading ( which now 400 coal-7gc, 400hwp 10gc 400marble 10gc on sandy cove sever is the price 4/9/12) and gold production give me enough gc to to upgrade most building to lv4 as and when i feel like it. If i have a bad day trading i know i can still make 800gc a day and not click a single button. and this comment 4 gold bars to 1 coin is the same for iron bars 4 iron ore to 1 iron block, but because its not gc people dont mind the cost.
Tried it for a while now.
My view - making gold is a complete wast of time, resources and effort.
Trade for it!
The only problem with the Parrot plan is that you need to spend REAL money to buy gems to buy parrots unless you want to wait two weeks to get the gems free. [CENSORED: RUDE TO PLAYERS].

You do know it's possible to buy parrots in game without spending real money?

These sort of comments make me lol. What does it matter to you what others spend their money on? Resentment of some sort? Without these "chumps", there would be no Settlers Online for you to play and moan about.

Fact of the matter is ... gold coin production is extremely profitable if done right. No matter your method of refill (or rebuild), it'll always be profitable as long as you follow the one golden rule - Always keep them buffed!
yeah keep em buffed...agree , but i miss u can put more than 1 buff on em at the time,so u dont have to set ur watch after it:(
Afraid not, you can only have one buff on a building at a time. It just takes some discipline to turn them off even if they have a healthy portion of a buff left on it but know you can't get on until long after the buff runs out, even if it means wasting half a basket. Don't be tempted to leave them on as this actually costs you gold and makes the chain unprofitable.
that want what i meant...cant see why u aint able to buff 3-4-5 times so u can keep it running for days, its still cost the same to buff em..
There's a cost for the convenience though. 12 fish platters in a row cover the same time period as a basket, but without the bread and sausage. Buffs aren't meant to be essential to production, it just so happens that without them the production is pitiful.

What use is having hardwood planks, marble and tools just sitting collecting virtual dust? The only way to grow is to keep your supply chains moving. Spending 1400 hardwood planks, 1400 marble and 1500 tools on a gold mine is a lot better than having a string of dormant sawmills and quarries. There's little you can do with 30k of a resource, for example, that you can't do with 15k.
obviously they want you to buy gems and then buy what u need.. this way they make more money:)
Im level 31 now and tried the gold production just to complete the quests, definately not worth it at this level but it will be fruitful way later in the game, If i can get a level 5 gold smelter/coinage I can threefold buff them and produce even more! thats why im saving my exotic fruit baskets , red flying drinks and cookies for this very thing.
you must use buff on gold prodaction
300ore = 600 ore = 600 gold bars = 300 coins
100% right Gold is half the ore production and is tottaly worth it if you get 500 gold refills for between 300 and 350gc always placing on a lv5 gold mine. Double/treble buff on lv5 = 10/15 ore = 5/7.5 coins so 500 refill = 500/750coins any one who sniff at 150/450gc PROFIT does not have very good business acumen. It is up to you as it cost 10,000 tools to get one mine to lv5 but doubling/trebling it makes it a tottally viable option
You can use trade for gold refills, they usually cost about 500gc or you could just trade for gold ore. Remember to buff your smelters and coinages with buffs that triples output for the best results such as cookies.

All calculations above are incomplete and not helpful. This is what you need:
No buff: 300 ore mine = 150 gold bars (ratio 2 to 1) = 37.5 coins (ratio 4 to 1)
Irma buff (2x): 300 ore mine = 600 ore (ratio 1 to 2) = 600 gold bars (ratio 1 to 1) = 150 coins (ratio 2 to 1)
Cookie/Exotic buff (3x): 300 ore mine = 900 ore (ratio 1 to 3) = 1200 gold bars (ratio 1 to 1.5) = 900 coins (ratio 4 to 3)
Zombie buff (4x): 300 ore mine = 1200 ore (ratio 1 to 4) = 2400 gold bars (ratio 1 to 2) = 2400 coins (ratio 1 to 1)
Suspected (mixed): 300 ore mine = 600 ore (irma) = 600 gold bars (irma) = 300 coins (cookies/exotic)
Edit:
There was a slight miscalculation in my excel sheet. Typical. :)
Best Gc per building license I have managed to get with this chain is 2.8 Gc/hour.

Just a short note:
It's very profitable to have 2 gold chains without spending anything on gold refills.
1. have 1 gold mine level 5, that you throw the odd refil into when you find one on adventures, or from gifts, or from trade. Only run it buffed, and never let it exhaust. (use the x3, and x4 buffs on them when you get them, or buy them from trade for cheap)
2. Re-build the other 7 mines to level 2, and only run them buffed with baskets etc.
3. Build 2 gold chains to level 3-4, and only run them buffed. (lvl4 coinage buffed with x3/x4 buff whenever possible & Profitable).
7 level 2 mines will support 2 level 3-4 gold chains. And there's no need to spend gems, or gold/resources on refills. But in the event you get a refill somewhere, use it on level 5 mine with buff for some fast gold ore.
Cheers
Scruffy
PS. Basically: 1 Gold Deposit = 1 Gold Coin (if the whole chain is x2 buffed). Baskets and coal costs come to about 1/4th of the gold you make. (300 Gold deposit uses 2.4k Coal, and lvl3 chain (with 3 lvl2 mines) takes 9 baskets/300 deposit (approx.) = 70g approx)

Up like a lion... Unfortunately, you are mistaken ;)
Irma buff (2x): 300 ore mine = 600 ore (ratio 1 to 2) = 600 gold bars (ratio 1 to 1) = 150 coins (ratio 2 to 1)
Either your coinage ratio is correct (2:1), and your conclusion should be 300 coins (with 3 buffs); or your conclusion is correct (and ratio wrong), leaving me to wonder why you didn´t buff the coinage...
Same with the mixed buff (1 cookie) calc, which ought to be 450 coins...
Gold mine is only worth if you spent real life cash on replenishing the mine.
This is generally not true. Your first set of prices are high enough to make it a marginal venture, but with Sandycove prices (aprox 25/k for all), gold chains are by far the most profitable buildings in the whole game. Try calculating a lvl2 chain w friendly buffs, you might end up smiling!
3 lvl 2 mines feeding 2 lvl 3 melters/coinages is a setup that any free player can do, without need of refills, that will make you stinking rich. More than that, and it might put too much of a strain on your marble and licences.
As a free player, gold mining is about the only way to get access to all the goodies. Fortunately, it´s a good one.
Happy mining, and don´t forget to tear down those mines before they run empty...

Lol man. I'm playing about 6 months TSO, I spent no single eurocent for this game, I got 12 levels (total) of g.smelters and coinages and I have no probblem to run them 24/7 (18/7 to be precise).
Spending real money is OK - players choice, but if you want to play for free, I advice you to use your imagination instead of blaming BB or the other players :P
Btw - I'm lvl42. My way:
- lvl5 mine for refills from adv. or TO + cookies and other x3 buffs. (If it's stopped, my friend use it - her refills and her buffs, no real influence for my production)
- up to 7 lvl2 mines, rebuilt every 48h (sometimes less - depends of lvl5 runs), basket-buffed twice per day (18/24h efectively)
- 4x lvl3 smelters + 4x lvl3 coins, basket-buffed twice per day (18/24h efectively)
- plans to upgrade one smelter and coinage to lvl4 and buff them x3 then.
- I just need building materials, but here this long story about trading in TSO ;)
That's all folks :)
