what level are you at? if you have an explorer, send him out to chart new territory, but you will only uncover all of the island bit by bit as you take control of the different sectors!

Increase your basic resource intake as much as possible. Build lots of woodcutters, stone masons etc. Make sure you have enough foresters for the wood cutters...the ratio is generally 2:1

Although a little more information about your specific problem, level, resource you need etc would be appreciated :p
