ok need as many ppl to reply to this post as possable lets get the dev to act on it :D we want to change are avatar pic at will or in any way they see fit.......post reply if you want the same :cool:

Custom Avatars would need to be stored server side, unlike the current avatars that are stored in the client. This has the potential of causing more lag.
Then we have the "children" that think it's funny to use inappropriate avatars which would need to be moderated, thus causing more work for the admin team.

dont have to be custom. just alow us to change are avatar with the pics they got. no lag no fuss just happy settlers :cool:
make it a 100 gem cost, that way it won't be abused, and anyone can still do it every 2 or soo weeks.
We can already change our names by contacting support - why can't changing our avatar work the same way?
I mean I auto reject any friend request from someone who has the silly masked red parrot avatar, or the drippy long haired . . . well you get the picture . . .
As stated above put a gem cost or a time factor on it - the mods have been going mad out re-naming themselves for christmas so why not the avatar?

Definitely not. Uploading personal avatars is open to abuse by people using inappropriate pictures. MODs and BB_Admin have enough to keep them busy without idiots abusing the avatar aswell.

When I started my game I just picked some random portrait. However, there is no way to change it later on. Please make it possible to buy or in some other way change it.
I too want to be able to change my avatar. Prefer the cartoon avatars over uploading pic for avatar.
I think the idea was to be able to change your avatar to one of the other original avatars.

Uhum. And, what about the forum avatars? Moreover ingame avatar is visible mostly for the gamer, as well as only by friends and guildmates.

With our guildmates we think it will be fun to have own pictures as avatars. Picture can be "advanced" to "settlers style" so some people dont have to worry about true real face but avatar will still looks like real players.

I'd like the ability to change to one of the other already existing avatars (and perhaps they could occasionally add some more), but wouldn't really want people being able to upload their own.
Even if they got reprimanded for it, how many people would suddenly have, erm, body parts, for an avatar (because of how clever that is).
Thats just a small problem. Software can recognize faces and will use only face for process or/and pictures will have to be approved before using.

Could be introduced as a side quest ( optional) for lvl 39 : choose the avatar which is more likely to represent your style of play, in TSO.
BB could introduce more avatars ( male/female) , eg. farmer, merchant, fighters, priestess, etc.

agree think the origanal avatars best to use uploaded pics would put lot more strain on the servers plus more space needed to store the uploaded pics = more lag and more booting
+1 I agree too, i didn't saw at start that there were so many avatars. now i'm stuck with this one.
It's kinda weird because in the forum i can change avatars whenever i want.

+1 player should have option of changing avatar ..most avatar from settlers7 game play ..bring back those knights from settlers 6- Marcus ,Hakim,Thordal, kestral Alandra ,Elias and Saraya..... also settlers5 characters..Dario ,Eric ,Pilgrim ,Ari ,Helias , Salim , Kerberos ..lot more options for us to choose from yet ....so it stays within game play...
Some games has the option to change hair style, skin color, age, etc. that would be nice. at least please let us change our avatar, I also agree to pay for that.
I bought a red nose for mine, but they didn't let us keep them. :(

You can ask some small amount of gems or guild coins for do that(first change should be free)
You can limit the file size/resolution
I have my own avatar for games like this, so! do it ASAP :D

I do not agree. Avatar images are small about 20-40kb and all the images have to be downloaded once... if the client have not downloaded the custom avatar can use a default image until the sync is done... so not more loading, not more lagging...
I like this idea, but don't think people should be able to change their pic too frequently. If more data could be downloaded wouldn't that reduce lag and loading times?

Actually... it is possible for BB to change usernames... they do it every time someone is promoted/demoted to/from the position of Moderator.
Your character name I don't mind being stable - it would make linking to posts or keeping track of friends really hard if the names were changing. But like in other posts I completely agree that changing the avatar should be easy, including allowing custom ones (as long as they conform to the standards of the site)
I don't know if someone put that thread, but can you tell me way do you dont make that we can change avatar picture in profile?
It's been posted elsewhere - many have asked for a way to change their avatar.
shame, that is not that hard to make, it's going to be great that we can change avatar, but no name. On that way everyone will know who you are.

I don't like the idea of a name change. In it's simplest form a name change could be used by a player with a justified bad reputation to play as a player with an intact reputation until others learnt that they are in fact dealing with someone hiding their former identity. In it's worse form a name change could allow someone to escape punishment imposed on them by the Mods or BB. The history of this game shows that there are those who can not be trusted not to exploit the possibilities this would allow.

I agree. No name changes, but avatar change is purely cosmetic.
Also agreed - no name change. Friends lists, posting history, etc. would all become a mess. And clearly those who have gotten a bad rep would get a get-out-of-jail-free card.

i dont know if it was a bug or otherwise, but a pop up window came and i changed my avatar, by accident!
and when i visited adventure island and back to my home-island, my avatar was the same!
(it also asked me to choose my name, but i couldnt click on it)

I personally disagree. I think choice is good. Being able to leave it alone, OR change it, that would be better. Therefore you could have your way (no change) and others could have a chance to change.

I would expect that they would have to be approved before being live because of the great potential of incredible abuse and offense. And the time to review them all might be more than the current support could do. I'm sure that's part of the problem from their end.

we already have a complaints procedure, and the forum mods are pretty much on the ball when inappropriate images are used on the forums.

Agreed - and the forum mods do a good job, but I was thinking of the in-game avatar and having your friends list suddenly filled with images you may not want to see. That would be harder for the moderators to know about than forum posts and could cause a lot of support tickets. I'm assuming that we have been talking about the in-game avatars because in the forum you can already have your own.
I personally would be hard to offend because I'm quite open minded and good at ignoring what I don't want to see, but in this modern world people take offense at a great many things whether reasonable or not.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not easily offended by images either but it would make the whole game very messy. I have no desire to see pictures of cars, football team emblems, dogs, cats, women in bikinis, Kim Kardasians backside or whatever else people decide to use. The Settlers is a classy game with some great artwork. I would hate to see it destroyed by tacky avatars that you see in so many other games.

I'd expect some data for the avatar is stored within the users table although that could just as easily be 1,2,3,4 under the avatar column, other than that I agree, chances are it would cause additional server stress for no real reason

The good old avatar question. I mean the FAQ entry has been up since the game pretty much launched and we would really like the option to change our avatars. Be it by gems cost or anything, please. You can make it have charges or anything like that too in the shop but please, can we finally have the option to change it?

Some of us started playing at a time there wasn't much choice.. there's lots more to choose from these days, so yes, I agree with Snugglz, the ability to change would be good. (Even limit it to 1 or maybe 2 max.)

When i look for a new game i usually have to register in order to see if i am likely to enjoy it or not. Particularly the avatar that is chosen can be changed later. At this stage i am not picky because i do not know if i will play more than one session.
So I think it is likely that when some players register for Settlers they can make a rash decision over their name and even more likely over their choice of avatar. My understanding is that players may change their names in Settlers providing someone has complained or they have some other good reason for the change.
So I really would like players to be able choose another avatar after registration - just the once. Just a standard Settler Avatar already in the mix.
This is not just about wanting a prettier avatar but about the gender chosen at the start. I have known players that love the game, spent money on gems and stop play because they cannot put up with their original choice of avatar. The consequences of choosing a different gender to the one you are most happy with can be huge for the person involved and one that others usually find amusing but then this is why the one that wants to change then leaves the game. I dont want to lose any more great friends in the game BB . I am sure it is in the game design somewhere , I even think it used to pop up as a bug . Edit: This was the bug after disconnect or sometimes as you were playing you would be already logged in and on your isle and this would pop up. It was personalised with your game nick but asking you to choose an avatar. When you did it took you back to level 1 but I do think this shows that you could change after registration the system could be adjusted to allow it.

I for one would like to be able to change my Avatar as I am finding it distressing to frequently being referred to as "her, she or other female names" when I am a male and have informed my fellow members but my avatar is the problem which shows a female.
Everyone has their own reasons for a chance to change the avatar. Saying all this I was not given a choice of which avatar I would like when I joined the game over 3 years ago as I have read by some other members.
We should only be able to change between the present avatars available which could be done within there script but that's just my opinion
