Lag or something else

I started horseback adventure and sent my 3 generals there. (1 battle hardened and 2 normal ) Battle hardened unloaded troops and was sent back to get more troops. When I sent that general with new troops back to horseback and I thought that normal generals would be there I found that there was still 12 minutes to go :(

Also sometimes geologists I've sent to search deposits have just quit while there were still deposits to find

So is it caused from lag?
