View Full Version : Thanks for Maitenance notice 2/1/2013
Only notice i and alot of people recieved was an in-game message. Why is there nothing on the hompage or forums about this maitenance? You guys in admin must have know you where running maitenance, so i think it is pretty rude that you guys dont let all us players know that there was to be and how long maitenance will go for! Great start to the new year admin :/
its also kind of early this time too. I couldn't even rebuild all my wheatfields in time

I guess they don't want the maintenance, scheduled or otherwise, showing up and discouraging new members? maybe?
If so why not make maintenance news only visible to logged in players.. it is weirdly frustrating when you are trying to log in and you get a "Connection failed" message that makes it seem like if you hammer F5 you'll eventually get in.
Maybe admin will go in and sleep my soon to be unbuffed exotic wood and gold that i wont be able to rebuff now...

Don't discuss the unscheduled maintenance (the Nephew did that in help channel) or you run the risk of a 24 hour chat ban for trolling BB. Bit of a joke if you ask me. Oh well it gives me the opportunity to keep support on their toes in defence of the lad I guess
No wonder I cant log in then. Good job I turned my gold off earlier
Any idea on how long this will take?
Bit of a noob and this is the first time maintenance has occurred for me :(
Well I hope this fixes my game as I've not been able to play for 6 days now

How long is this maintenance scheduled for, does anyone know????? and yes it should have been posted on the forum or something.
I made it in time, by the skin of my teeth. Of course my unbuffed friends may not agree...
Communication on all levels is sorely lacking of late and while well thought out gifts are certainly appreciated simply telling staff and players what is going on and when (as much as possible) would make everyone's jobs and gaming experience ever so much easier and more fun.

The game will ALWAYS be considered BEAT because of new content continually being added. That still doesn't excuse BB not informing anyone of this maintenance that BB obviously knew would be occurring today. It's not like BB Devs woke up and 12am and all of a sudden decided to remove the Christmas event as 12.30am

You are now doing what the Nephew did. Got a little angry at the lack of BB communication. For his trouble he received a 24 hour chat ban. Be careful or someone may give you the same :(
nice !!! fortunately you started this post otherwise I would be seating here trying to connect for ever :)

Oh please! I'm so fed-up of these BB apologists who will never admit that BB treat us pretty shoddily sometimes.
I've made my opinions clear in a number of threads now, but I believe this was scheduled maintenance and they didn't bother to make sure we were informed in advance.

a simple notice the day before warning of an outage would have done the trick, I have a gold smetler, a titanium smelter & 3 gold mines left running on no buffs as a consequence. particularly as it is usually tomorrow that maintenance occurs.
Guys, chill. If you don't like it. BB isn't forcing you to stay. There are a ton of other games you can play until they are done. So what if they forgot, or whatever reason. I'm sure they will tell us what happend and deal with this accordingly.
As long as a game is called BETA you haven't got anything to complain about. Then you shouldn't play Beta games but retail games and then you can complain about not getting a message for maintenance or whatever.
Go to bed, grab some food, watch some tv, play outside, play another game, go to work. Tomorrow you can play again. Any lose you make, so what it's all digitale numbers and fake, that's what a game is. It's not your life that is on the line.

Another one who thinks the word 'BETA' means the developers can act however they like. If the game is in beta, how dare they charge us for gems?
Personally I'm pretty sick of BB getting stuff wrong and then "explaining" themselves after the event. All the chicken and stuffing I had over Christmas couldn't take away the bad taste left in my mouth from EOTW.

"Cough" Assassins Creed "cough" was sold as "cough" retail "cough" and had how many bugs in it? "cough" And the "cough" helpline "cough" was in place for "cough" paying "cough" customers to ring to inform them "cough" of what bugs "cough" there were?
That almost makes your post totally irrelevant
Perkuno: I know what you mean but as long as it cost money to play, and most of us have coughed up cash. We expect a certain level of service. I love this game, but having been on the end of very poor service on a number of occasions I have felt like giving it up. I may well do that because your right there are a number of better run games out there.
Yup, this does look like pretty bad communication.
Of course maintenance is needed, but it's not too much to ask for a notice. Planning and efficiency is a big part of the game. Lots of new quests are just to teach players how to do things efficiently. So it's no surprise that a lot of players do plan their island carefully. That BB then seems to forget a maintenance, and messes up the planning for lots of players... isn't it ironic!
I agreed with a loot-partner to finish my part of an adventure before tomorrow morning. I expected to have lots of time, to took it easy. Chatted a bit, rebuild a bunch of fields and mines... and then suddenly maintenance! I was done with 1 or 2 minutes left, but it was close and could have gone wrong just the same. If they had announced it, it would not have been so tight.
Sure it's not the end of the world (ha, we survived that anyway) but sometimes a simple message of a few lines makes a big difference.

Everyone: Submit a Support ticket (http://www.thesettlersonline.com/en/help-and-support), with your complaints and suggestions regarding Maintenance, and notice of upcoming Maintenances. If enough people send support tickets, maybe they will take notice.
As we are not allowed to speak negatively of BB in public, either on forums or especially in game chat; and that we are continually told to submit a support ticket as the official form of contacting BB, everyone should do just that.
Example:
Dear BB
Can you please post up the time/date of scheduled maintenance at least 24hrs in advance, on the forums and on Homepage News. Players are not always online when maintenance will occur, and many players log in on a schedule for buffing/maintaining their Island. With 24hrs notice of maintenance, players are able to turn off buildings, or maintain/rebuild/buff things before maintenance, so they are not forced to return to a costly/unmaintained Island after maintenance.
Cheers
Scruffy

Maintenance Generaly runs 6-9 hrs. So I wouldn't hold my breath, I'd say still at least 3hrs until game is up again.
Icegirl, are they forcing you to pay for gems? No. If you don't want to pay, then don't....
Thanks OP for making this threat, Now I Know is Maintenance. I was hitting F5 so hard... And deleting Cookies and what not.
But again thank you OP.

That's a bit of an oxymoron to say generally between 6-9 hours and then to say at least 3 hours before the game is up again

But then won't you say that if I don't buy gems then I have no right to complain?

Twist my words however you like Icegirl. There is just no way talking to you. Your mind is set. You paid for gems and aren't getting what you expected to get from BB.
Take a step back and maybe think about what you are doing. Complaining about a luxery. Kids in Africa don't even have money food and clothing and you are sitting behind a computer complaining about a game.
Oh well your choice.

I don't think what I'm asking for is so unreasonable. Keep us informed. Stop telling the Germans stuff and not bothering to tell all the other servers. Respond to us, let us know they hear us. I have no issue with the maintenance per se. I'm just a bit unhappy the Nephew got a whole days ban (not the only person to be unhappy). If there was consistency by certain people and everyone got the same punishment for the same thing it would stop a huge amount of in game issues. As things stand at the moment it looks and appears like a simple case of "If your face fits"
Anyway, back on topic. With this maintenance today I wonder if they will still have the usual Thursday maintenance too, or will it be rolled into 1 today?
WOW!!!
That's an awful long time for maintenance!!
Being a doormat or not has nothing to do with this. Good for you that you aren't btw.
But there are 2 types of people. People who want respect and people who earn respect.
I guess you're the one who wants respect. Well if we look at BB yes, they lost some respect from the gaming community, so all they can do is try to earn some respect back. How? Well, we'll just have to wait and see.
This is the first game I have ever known to have such long maintenance times, weekly. Usually with no updates. And today, with almost no warning too.

Is this the end of the christmas event by the way?

Oh but it is a retail game. It's in shops and they accept money from their playerbase. This creates a certain (and legitimate) expectancy of quality.
Maintenance is most if not all Wednesdays at this time, so it can't still be a surprice - altho I agree that a message as usual would have been nice :)

If you heard that dude was on holiday (I'm a Brit not a Yank so it isn't vacation to me) then someone must of told someone who possibly told someone else. My point is someone from BB must of told someone he was on holiday, so they could easily of told that someone beforehand maintenance was going to happen. So that's not even a valid excuse for them

You said it yourself "Chat moderator." Too many people take what they say as fact, the simple fact is they are "CHAT" Moderators, meaning they "MODERATE" chat. They are not BB devs. It always makes me giggle when I hear of people who call for a MOD in help and ask a tech related question (The Nephew sits there giggling away so I get told lots by him)
If there is only one person with the ability to make announcements something is seriously broken. That shouldn't be the problem though, there are other Admins and it's not unreasonable (for regular players and the Mods themselves) to expect Mods to be kept informed of certain things, it would certainly ease a lot of tension all round if this were the case.
There is still no official announcement so while it seems likely this is the end of the Xmas Quests... we don't know.

there should simply be a protocol in place where technical support notify of outages prior to the event (unless of course with a system crash), if it required that someone with the department that runs the maintenance be given access to make announcements, then surely that is doable to overcome a forum mod being unavailable due to holidays /sick leave etc.
I would expect programmers are capable of making timed announcements so they can release information of planned outages even if they are on holidays.
& to people saying shut up complaining that this is a beta version, the point of a beta is to air out problems for the commercial release...this is clearly a problem albeit primarily a communication error rather than a programming error.

No announcement of what is probably the end of x-mas maintenence. Why not let people plan their moves leading up to a maintenence? The players would prefer it that way. Please let us know in the future.
It could have been a security issue actually, like hackers... Giving them no time to announce. I wouldn't put it below them covering it up saying it's some kind of normal maintenance instead.

So BB does not like any form of legitimate discussion or complaint's. I am a 57 y/o retired professional and expect to be treated as such. Not moderated because i say something that does not cause offence but simply is inconvenient.

I think its quite rude and without respect for players efforts to do a maintenance without a warning :(
Hello,
I know that maintenance is normally scheduled for late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning, but I was on the game earlier today and made a not of the fact that there was no notice of any scheduled maintenance.:p
So i left all my buildings, mines etc running to go and eat, relax for a few hours, with the intention of returning later at night to check on my mines etc and buff friends & myself (as i normally do most evening late at night, being an officer of guild and group-forum Admin.), and/or to also zzzz items on my island accordingly, as I would normally do on all other scheduled maintenance nights.
Anyway, upon my return @ 3am UK GMT time, I was unable to log-in and after checking the forum here, discovered that the servers were down for unscheduled maintenance that had not been announced !
I must say I am very disappointed at BB's start to the new year, and as usual, very little or no information regarding the issue available anywhere other than here where folk are all clambering for info !
Some say it is because it is Beta game and we should just leave it at that, but others, myself included, believe this is bad management & that the Beta tag should be removed OR the "retail" version be removed from retail shops and high-street stores, surely it cannot be Beta & retail at the same time ?!!
:o So, on behalf of all the TSO players, thank you for a great start to the new year , you have probably lost faith in yet more regular players/supporters of TSO.:o
I hope this issue is resolved and an apology issued to all users ASAP, as you will now need to try and restore your faith in the TSO community.
Kind regards, and I await your reply.

Vannacht zal er onderhoud worden gepleegd aan de servers. Dit houdt in dat het spel niet bereikbaar zal zijn. Tijdens het onderhoud wordt de eerste verwijderfase van het kerstevenement geïmplementeerd.
Start: Donderdag nacht tegen 01:30 uur
Einde: Donderdag ochtend tegen 08:00 uur

Houd er rekening mee dat het onderhoud soms enkele minuten kan uitlopen.

BB need to go on study visit to NCSoft/ArenaNet to see how to run a game (like Guildwars 1/2) without server downtime.
Thankfully i was able to stop my Gold Mines as the buff was going to run out 45 minutes later.
Well... reading all messages has been fun...
In short... the game is in beta, they sell gems to players, players ask for a better service... Beside that you cannot play and they didn't told you anything... the really annoying thing is that lot of people was not able to buff certain critical productions... like a gold mine... This remind me the hard-core playing in diablo2... Why you should not play hard-core? Because you can be a real master of the game but if your connection drops you will die... I like this game but devs should find something to counteract such things... as when I try to login to re-buff my production and find the server down for... only god knows how much time...
One way to solve this issue could be giving players a choice, after a server downtime... to let them resume a "saved state" and save, for example, a gold mine...

So just much longer is this maintenance supposed to last? Anyone know?
well if its going by dutch time and it finishes at 10.00am its only 6am over there enow so another four hours by the looks of it, please anyone correct me if I'm wrong.
Maintenance is always THURSDAY MORNING 00.30-05.30 GMT.
From what we've heard from Dutch server it should end 09.00GMT today.

Well that will break our daily login bonuses.
So because it doesn't ruin your plans you can't understand that it ruins other's? Good going.
What I was trying to say is it's only a game which should be played as an aid to relaxing, not a way of life. If the game stops working, why panic and moan. Do something else for a few hours until it's back again. Having been a programmer, I'm aware of how hard it is to get everything correct so there is never any unexpected outage. Same as your car, the electricity supply and phone/internet.

Why would it?

Yeah. Guess why people get mad? Now they can't relax. :p
This was caused by misscommunication, someone didn't take BB_Dantesama's place to make the proper announcement. So it's not even that they're fixing something for us. This is to remove the Christmas Event, without any prior warning.
No wonder I can't log in! Any idea what time that they finish or am I screwed before going to work now????
Please read the thread! At the top of THIS VERY PAGE I say it's probarly the same as Dutch server, 09.00GMT!
I'm back in now so it must have finished.
So it was exactly the same as a regular one. Neat.

That's a bit of an oxymoron to say generally between 6-9 hours and then to say at least 3 hours before the game is up again
That's because, as usual, your lack of intelligence prohibits your ability to think it out before you speak/write....
I'm sure most others understood it just fine... have another think about it.. take your time.
... So glad i have you on ignore in-game.

On the one hand, you'd be correct in saying games are to be enjoyed, and not stressed over.
However, as a Programmer, you probably understand a person or company who invests money in product/application/game has an expectation the software/application/game works to all reasonable/advertised expectations. Would you as a programmer condone charging people a comparatively high amount of money for a piece of Beta software? And with all the experimental/communication failures this game has?
They can say this is a Beta game, but that is irrelevant. When you start taking money from players, and encouraging players to pay more money with promotions and advertising, it by definition, becomes a 'retail' product. If it's paid for, it's retail. And with retail comes fair expectations.
Players are rightly unhappy with the product they are PAYING for.
I'd be happy to play this game as an non-paying Beta, if they removed the advantage to everyone else who payed. It would very much change the whole economics of the game.

I'm still waiting for the Nephews 24 hour ban to be lifted and him to be compensated or for every other person in the forum who has done exactly the same as him to receive an equal 24 hour ban for doing exactly the same thing. Come on MODs prove everyone is the same whether their face fits or not, and regardless of whether they are in the same guild as you or not
put an auto-sleep feauture to buildings if are left unbuffed. All complains will end.
That's actually a great idea. They'll probarly charge a gem every time it sleeps a building tho.
But that means more money for them, and they're more likely to put it in... :p
