First note: it produces Gold Bars; not Gold. Bad translation.

Second note: one should really think twice before paying the level 2 upgrade since it takes a long time before you earn back the upgrade costs.
Here's my calculation:
1500 marble goes on an average for 65 coins on the market, so let's take the upgrade cost as 865 coins.
A level 1 Gold Smelter needs about 12:30 to create one Gold Bar; that's 50 minutes for the 4 gold bars required to produce 1 coin.
At level 2, this time is reduced to 25 minutes for the 4 gold bars.
Your break-even-point is therefore at 865 * 25 minutes = 21625 minutes; that's 360 hours.
So paying the level 2 upgrade means a pure loss for the first 15 days. And so far I didn't take into account what other nice things you can buy for 800 coins and 1500 marble.
