Geologist Search Resetting

I have noticed this a few times now, I send my geos out to search for deposits. Sometimes if its a short search (like copper) and I visit another island or adventure and come back, the geologist is there waiting for instructions. Today, with a longer search (coal) he has been searching since this morning and there are still three hours on the clock. :confused:
