View Full Version : i m getting bored with your game lads
getting bored with the game, everyday same routine , at lvl 2 copper mine or iron mine, you have to rebuild them once a day, so at lvl 4 you have to do it twice a day ,this is getting actually silly, why you din t made them like the coal mine once every 3/4 days at lvl2
even the fields everyday you have to rebuild it, could you not find a way to do at least once a week or so,unless you are lvl 49 we have to spend granite to build a field or get a silos witch are hard and expensive to get
, i spend 50 quid on the game (i know it was silly) but i had to wait 6 months to save the gems to be able to get a new gem s pit, now i have to wait 3 months for the third one ,you could have at least let us upgrade them to lvl 5 to get the gems quicker, what would you say if you had to wait 6 months to get my money.
this is not a complaint but a call for help, i really like the game, i have been playing it for 9 months, but i m losing the passion for it and that is not good, i saw many people through the 9 months quitting because they were bored with it
you last event was rabbish also , we spend so much resources for balloons and we got only at 120% to get 100 gems and a headquarter that give you only 20 settlers extra , the skins last 3 days, that is a joke really, you don t know how to party ,20 years of settlers and that is the way you celebrate it.
but don t get me wrong , the trading is great some adventures are good, still routine so . the community is brilliant but i start to feel like i m wasting my time, ( i probably do )
thanks for reading
+1 , I feel the same
PvP or level expand would make this game more alive ;]
Same here, but I don't care much for events etc.
My main boredom is related to the battle. It's too static, too often the same. Not tactical enough; purely based on cannot fodder.
Not to mention that once u figure out a certain battle, it will be exactly the same every time. There is quite simply no challenge when you know down to the pixel what troops to prepare, what attacks to send, which blocks can be performed or what locations to transfer to. When I have an adventure in my star menu I produce the troops I need for it in the barracks, and when I have an hour or so to play, I start it, send over the troops and wipe the map clean. I know exactly what is going to happen the minute I press 'start adventure'. It really is just about as thrilling as turning a light switch on and off. The way I see it, there's only 2 remedies to this problem.
1 - Create adventures where enemy camps have some random component in their troops and location. This will make each adventure unique, rendering guides useless and making players have to think for themselves how to approach the combat. Those shocked with the idea of not having guides, hear this: This game is by no means too difficult to play without guides. You will easily figure out a way to beat any and every camp in the adventures. It just might not be always the most cost-efficient one. But isn't figuring new things out and becoming more skilled in the game all part of the fun?
2 - PvP. When not facing AI but another human player, the depth of strategies and the challenge in combat would obviously increase. It's sad to see this feature be postponed over and over again to the point where you start to wonder will it ever really be implemented? There have been a million cries asking for PvP to the game so I'm not expecting this post to make a difference. But it would be indisputably the best way to stop the game from becoming stale.
yes , i agree with you both , pvp player has been promise for too long now ,and it will be probably be a race to get somewhere the quickest for what i heard, so not a great stuff to look for ,number will be the key , if you are a small player you have not a chance but this is only rumours and i m probably wrong , but i don t expect a great stuff at all
It's designed to be tedious and boring so you spend gems on speeding the game up, the science system will give you deposits that can be mined faster meaning more rebuilding on a daily basis. It's designed to be tedious, there's no point complaining because BB only want your money. you either play at snails pace and get bored or spend money to speed it up, thems the choices

One solution to that problem is to ignore the guides and figure out the new maps from scratch, using a combat simulator. This will result in higher losses for some time as you refine your tactics, but it will mean it is less boring. There are new epic adventures that will be arriving soon, and they are not designed to be easy. However, if you do just follow other people's guides to combat, then there won't be a great deal of challenge to the maps.

Well, hopefully people might try to challenge other players of a similar level. There's not much point in a level 50 player challenging a player who has just built a barracks and can only make recruits. I know that happens in other 'pvp' games, where high level players just attack easy targets to get some loot, but it's not exactly a fair fight or difficult in strategic terms.

It is a game that requires a good deal of patience. If you do find it tedious, then the speed-up options will cost you money - I think that is the same in other online games too. Obviously the games company wants to make profit from the game - they can't afford to provide the whole lot for free. :D
Isn't the real problem that we don't know what the intentions are with Settlers Online? When it comes to improvements, no one is ever reacting. No "bad idea because..." and no "great idea, we will see if it can be implemented in the game". No nothing...
For the combat I already made some suggestions in this thread http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/24468-My-suggestions-for-the-best-game-ever?highlight=combat+random to make it more challenging. I'm sure there are ways, but does BB want to head that way? Or is it indeed meant to be boring?

There is a game called Settlers 7 that is fast, online and has many of the combat options that people here seem to want. It might be worth checking it out if you like that sort of combat. However, you do need to purchase a code to start playing it.

One man's meat is another man's poison, I guess, seeing as most of the 'issues' raised by the OP are actually part of the appeal of this game for me.
As for PvP, I'm with Sto_Helit on that issue. I also hope that if they ever get round to implementing PvP then there is some sort of 'opt in/out' function as, for the foreseeable future at least, I have no interest in involving myself in that.
Oh.. and MrBranch is right that lack of response to feedback is somewhat frustrating. Unfortunately that seems to be par for the course with pretty much every game forum I've ever been on.

You're not at all alone, fortunately PvP (Coming Soon™) is meant to be entirely optional and:
1. Home islands will be protected
This information will calm down a lot of players: it will not be possible to attack home islands of other players – they will be protected from attacks.
Dev Diary 20.11.2012 (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/20825-Dev-Diary-20-11-2012)
While many things change from Diary to Diary and Diary to Live, PvP as an option only has remained consistent.

I never use other people's guides. Every attack and every block I make is of my own design, though i use the combat sim to tweak the numbers to their optimum.
That said, it would be stupid of me to not take notes since I know that the same camp will be there in the exact same way the next time I play the adventure. There is no excitement in pretending to figure a battle out when you know that you have already done it, and that you would just be doing the same simulation again for the same end result.
Someone made a point about the game being tedious so that people would spend gems. That really doesn't apply to combat since the adventures will not become interesting to play even if there was an infinite amount of gems at your disposal. With faster generals you'll just be able to play twice as much of the equally repetitive and boring adventures.

I'm glad at least a few other people do their own thing with adventures, because I tend to get the impression that some people only want a guide to follow. I haven't done enough adventures to get to the boredom stage, but I know it will happen after a certain amount of time. Hopefully pvp and/or different adventures will come in to solve this problem, but I can see how it becomes frustrating whilst you are waiting.
All I can say, is that it's not very smart to follow the guides. Every time I'm playing adventures, I'm having at least 1 or 2 camps that can be beaten in better way than described in the adventure guides. And even every time I'm playing them again, I find a way to do it better than the last time (but this might be since I'm just playing the game since a few months, so I'm still learning).
But of course, it's still smart to read the guides. Sometimes you have the feeling that a certain camp could be destroyed more efficiently, but you can't figure out how. Manuals often show that your feeling is true by making visible how to do it.

I am bored with this game. And dissapointed. I reached level 22 in two days and now there is nothing to do except buff buildings all day long. So, so many better old games out there. I think it's a mistake to make this game a browser game, because it is so slow. Sometimes I have to wait for 3 whole seconds for a buff to be placed on a building, and I have a 10 megabit internet connection. So many good lessons to learn from Civilisation 2 and 3 and such a great gap in the market for games like these. The work on this game is only 30% done, but if u could keep the dinamics of the first 20 levels in late game, it would be much better. Tons of new, small quests, and perhaps a better combat system - one more player infuenced. Troop possitioning, first strike, ranged before melee. I mean u got the whole Heroes of Might and Magic 1-4 expirience and still this is the best you could of done?! I think you just spent tons of time, hard work and money on something a teenager could come up with. If league of Legends is at this moment the most played game in the world, go and see why... Don't make your investors money a waste. Go back to the drowing board and do the thing your fans for decades would have expected. Sorry if I'm to harsh on you, but you can do much better.

Somehow I think you might be playing the wrong game - it's a building and trading game, not one with a highly developed combat system. It requires strategy and patience to do the quests and make a balanced economy on your island. If you want to make buildings quickly and have better combat, there are options to play some of the other Settlers games via an online connection.
keep asking myself more and more 'why am I doing this, this so-called game that should be renamed 'Chores Online''
What used to be the job of computers they've managed to convince us to do with 1000 clicks. The developers and programmers do not play this game - they couldn't since the programming sloppiness has gotten to a point nobody involved could possibly look in a mirror after spending 10 minutes at it. And as for the creativity, sure, lets have another celebration of contributing 100,000 resources and click fest 5 balloons at a time several times a day so at the end of 4 weeks we can win a look-see to what 20 year old graphics were. And then if that's criticized, as it should be, lets pretend that giving the wait staff at a restaurant a 2 cent tip should be appreciated.
I stick around for the education and entertainment value in what something like this can become, not for the 'game' experience.

To be honest, I don't understand why you are playing if that is how you feel about it; you don't seem to enjoy it and if it is just a chore, why not find something else? Anno Online is just over there... :D

easy to understand: after having invested this much time and interest and getting the feeling the devs don't care, I'm hoping some honest critiquing might shake things up a bit - kapish?

This is so true, gems speed. But to no real gratification. I understand maybe they (BB) want us to buy gems, but they need to understand the equivalent of gratification one should have to part with their money? I feel punished because I am time poor.
Lately I purhaced 24,000 gem an did't receive them, i complain to help and all got was abuse and a ban. Are you mods all hardcore players that does not respect people who buy gems? If that is so your your business model is screwed.

Sadly this has very little to with the original concept. I loved Settlers 2 and 3 and even 4 but this is just the most tedious game I have ever played. The main object is to get you to buy gems to progress through the game. I've stuck at it for 6 months determined not to give in but I get absolutley no pleasure from playing it. So sad as the original game was fantastic.
Fairly new player here, but at lvl 37 I`m bored to tears at a game I found interesting at early levels. Atleast then you had steady progress! At this stage its just restocking soldiers to do the same adventures over again. Also, having to rebuild mines, wells and wheat fields every day is not very interesting gameplay, not to me atleast, it makes me almost dread logging in. Doubt I`ll hang around for long.
+1 Game is super boring. Spent a few quid and not spending any more. No point writing why or what i think they could do as it will be ignored anyway. I log in to gem the GQ and thats about it. I wouldnt even do that if i didnt have 9k gems left in my pit. At this rate I'll quit when they run out.

Have spent on average £10 a week on gems in this game since April 2012 and I must admit it's getting to be a bit tedious now. The Test server has problems logging in (again) and isn't likely to be fixed for 4 days. I'm on Level 40 in the actual game and have been since July 2013, It's Now Feb 2014. I'm not likely to level up for another 6 months at this rate. I log in and play several hours a day on both the game and the test server also.
So people suggest other games in reply to other comments, but what's to stop these other games from getting this kind of response in a few months time when players have got fed up with those too??
I've been playing Settlers since I bought an Amiga A600, I played from the beginning and still have (in boxes) 2,3 & 4. I didn't do 5, couldn't get on with it, then I discovered TSO, yes, it was great for a while. But when I pour £500 ish a year into a game I expect a bit more. I wont be buying any more gems, you've had enough out of me since April 2012 TSO at an average of £10 a week, that's quite a bit since I started On line Settlers and I'm not getting my moneys worth, nor are others.
can i play settlers 3 or 4 online
There has been nothing for level 50 players to do for a very long time, just accumulate and store resources which isn't challenging or fun. Earning rare buildings, generals, completing all the quests isn't enough. The game needs more content for a longer lifespan, currently its just 6 months for an active player.
How about monthly events similar to the crisis quests, not just the seasonal events? Expand the island to the ocean around it, perhaps an underground area could be used too?

I agree with some of Peajay's sentiments once you hit 50 there's something of an anti-climax, I love the building and economy aspects of the game, I still do plenty of adventures if the mood takes me. I started a playing on Northisle as well doing it a different way to how I approached it on Sandycove. There definitely needs to be more to occupy my time. PvP might be the answer if its optional, crisis type events might help. More building space if on another Island or satellite islands with different resources leading to building different stuff might be interesting ( Oriental or Desert for Instance ). Seeing a lot of people logging in less frequently or at all.
Maybe it's in the overall game design that once you hit 50 and have done all your FT stuff that it's expected you'll leave, nothing that has been released or announced as a future release is making me think otherwise. Honestly workyards, Granite pits etc is not going to keep people who have fully developed islands playing.
game play is just far far far too slow.... I've always loved settlers since i was a kid playing the first one but this just seems pointless and going nowhere

What a nice cozy old thread. Have to squeeze in here someplace between Blue and Doro...So, rumor has it you got about 90 Mil Blue. Something tells me you won't be tiring of this game any time soon. Maybe we use you as a yardstick to go by. If you get bored of game let us all know. Let's all check back here next year same time shall we?

To be fair, there's a long way to go but I'm not taking it as aggressively as before, rather hoping some content will either be released or revamped before I hit it hard again, think the secret might be have a little break every now and then, soon be event time again so happy days.
It's been a year already? :) Just checking in for a roll call. Blue, your gold production still flowing? Doro, you still going at it good and strong?
