View Full Version : Fairy Tale Castle Economics - why build when better to borrow?

So, after amassing those 9950 ::beans:: (magic beans) you could build a fairy tale castle, then upgrade it to have it start working:

1 to 2: 40k stone, 40k pineplanks
2 to 3: 40k marble, 40k hardplanks
3 to 4: 40k coal, 15k steel bars
4 to 5: 3k map frags, 5k gold coins

After those near 2 weeks of upgrades you can buy some items using beanstalks made from more beans:

3x 5 Building Licence @ 1300 ::beanst:: (beanstalks) each
3x Gold Tower @ 6300 ::beanst:: (beanstalks) each
1x Major General - 10000 ::beanst:: (beanstalks)

A total of 32800 beanstalks (less than 2 weeks of production time using x4 buffs (287.91 hours at 32sec walk distance))... After that (unless BB add more items to buy) the entire Fairy Tale Castle becomes absolutely useless.

So the only real reason to actually build the castle is to get the mere 500 ::gem:: (gems) reward from the quest line (gems plus a few minor items from quests related to building castle, some ewl, a valiant adv etc).
Economically it makes a lot more sense to politely ask a friend to borrow their castle for 2 weeks while they are not using it.

Your thoughts? Going to build one?

My current plan: I think I will try to borrow castle production time from a guildie (he's 10 days or so away from full upgrade) and get the Major General first (Got 9k beans now, so will easily have enough beans by that time). After that I might reconsider, though will likely just borrow time for everything... until such a time as BB add more items to buy with stalks.

Thats a good point!
Since the price on castle is 9950 ::beans::, with x4 buff that is 7960 ::beanst::, enough to buy 1 tower and some licenses for example.

I started today making ::beanst::, so yeah in 2/3 weeks, the castle will become a decoration, and I don“t like the "Z" thing

OR continue making beans and sell or trade them on TO for those who don't have castles also after you helped friends out

Kind of depends if it's tradeable though - from what I understand it isn't, though I'll happily be corrected.

I think Tripi means sending beans and buffs to your friend and he gives you the beanstalks back when they are done ;)

I didn't mean borrow the actual castle, just the production time.

Magic beans and beanstalks are both trade-able, as are all the usable buffs.
So you could send 5125 beans to a friend with idle castle, put a friend-buff stadium snack on their castle and 36 hours later have them send 4100 beanstalks back (or just look for a good deal in trade office as lulu suggested, especially if only using x3 buffs)

It's a matter of time.

If you can wait for your friend to finish his beanstalk purchases and he has no use for them. Sure Borrowing is the most economical way to go.

You're asking this question of the person who likes to build expert weapon production buildings!

It's for a sense of completion and fun. I'm not too bothered about economics...

and if you don't why should others let you use theirs if we all thought that on one would have one

its not economical to build it but tbh gold towers aren't very economical. but there all look pretty

Questoin: how many buildings above the level of copper smelter make economic sense?

I really wish i hadn't spent all those beans building it. Feels like a big waste since its sleeping 100% of the time. Better to trade beans for stalks.

It's down to personal choice, I've never built one and never had a problem getting beanstalks at production ratio from my guild. If you like shiny things or don't have a good guild then build one.

I'd buy it for aesthetic value. Not much more beside it. Although the floating Zzz would be annying.

The castle is initially best borrowed if possible just to get your MG, but as you pointed out at some point it does reward 500 gems for building and upgrading it, now to players who have gem pits it's probably insignificant but any F2P player anywhere you can scrounge free gems is priceless, on Northisle where I play the F2P model anywhere I can get free gems I will and when you total them up from everywhere, Quests and achievements you've probably got yourself 3 free savage scouts.

Not worth it either, as it requires Rainbow Snow and those of us who own lv5 Cannon chains are already consuming huge amounts of snow.
Beanstalks sell for a less than 5% markup compared to their production price - I don't know why people even bother, but the TO is full of good offers for prospective buyers.

Using the right buffs, nearly all of them.
The only buildings on my island sleeping are FTC and Gold production chains.

it looks cool

same reason why people want angel gate- which doesnt produce anything )

Not everything in game needs to have a whopping positive benefit

I remember the powder hut , dama sword maker etc- having no use exc ept bragging rights and quest/achievement use- How things change

so whats not here today might be tomorrow and else u still have a great building to show off :P

I built the castle and got all the thigns I needed, completed the quests and knocked it down, it now sits in my star as it took up way too much space and sat with that big ugly ZZZ bouncing up and down.

Everyone knows it is not worth building but people do it to complete the quest, the real issue was that it's shelf life was always so limited.

How do u make beans?
Does castle make it automatically ?

queen-vicious

Czezz the castle turns beans into stalks, beans can be obtained via loot from FT and AB adventures or trading for them. You can not "make" beans.

lordloocan
10.06.16, 13:03
Most people only build it to complete the quest chain and to have an empty quest book.

Ya, I know that. That is why I was surprised by sentence I quoted in my above post: continue making beans
