View Full Version : General State Of Play

Generally I don't speak out against this game and try my best to defend BB, however I now feel I have no choice.

The following bugs I am getting on a daily basis:

Black screen after collecting daily reward.

Buildings that have been placed suddenly disappearing. Most of the time I have to place fields and mines 2 or 3 times. Same applies when I move a building.

Build queue resetting. Combine this with above is very frustrating.

Specialists not going out on searches and having to be sent twice.

Specialists not finding deposits until I leave my island and return. For example 2 nights ago I had at least 7 iron deposits that needed discovering, 3 of my geologists were sent out to find iron and I got the notification that none were to be found. I visit a friends island, return and magically they are now on the map ready to be built on.

Incredibly long log in queues just to visit a friends island or return home. Same applies to adventures.

Incredibly long times just to actually get into the game. 90 minutes 2 nights ago and just over 2 hours last night.

Ever increasing time of lag.

Perpetually spinning hour glass on Trade Office, Provision House and reassigning troops on generals which require a game refresh to clear.

Collectibles not going into stores after clicking them.

I love this game, and being in the position as head of a guild I have a duty to others to play as close to daily as possible, but with all these bugs that occur daily it is becoming a chore to even log in and just rebuild fields and mine, let alone do adventures. I love new content and events but feel that some major time needs to be invested into making the current build as stable as possible before new content is rolled out.

+1
and since the removal of the Halloween event the game keeps crashing with the error *server call failed*. After clicking ok to refresh the client it sometimes says webpage not available

When experiencing this issues there are several things you can try. I realize this has been posted more often and you probably already did those steps. But just in case you missed a step.

Make sure your own internet connection is not the problem (switch off downloads, if possible reboot your router, if using wireless, try wired, etc)
Make sure you are not using other flash related apps (like flash games/youtube etc) in the same browser
Clear your browser history, take a look at my guide to make sure you actually clear all cookies/cache: How to clear cookies (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/25422-HOWTO-Delete-your-browsing-history-clear-cookies)
Clear your flash cache, while TSO doesn't use much it can be corrupted. How to clear flash cache (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4278569)
Try to increase the amount TSO can use, shouldn't matter but doesn't hurt to try anyway How to increase flash storage (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/25333-OPEN-Chat-crashes-at-random-times?p=236638#post236638)
Make sure you have the latest flash version installed. Check your flash player version for Internet Explorer and Firefox (http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html), when using Chrome just make sure you have the latest Chrome version installed (Chrome is very good in ensuring this ;)).
Try another browser. (While I'm a big fan on Firefox, lately it's acting up for me (not only for tso))

Running TSO on a 9 days old computer, i have had no chat crashes, no lag, no kicks out of the game, no problems with mines that could not be found. No nothing tbh :D
Cache and cookies cleared daily, nothing has been installed on this computer at all still, because i wanted to give it a few weeks.
Now, after last maintenance, i have issues.
I didn't change a thing, TSO changed something :)

And thus your browser cache might be out of date. Which could mean that

fixes your problem. Note this doesn't mean nothing could be done at BB's side, but it is worth trying to see if this helps right now.

If your production of wheels is exactly balanced with the consumption of wheels the economy view will also show a grey tab, so don't let that fool you.

Example with production of Iron by the Iron Smelter: (don't have a Wheelmaker, nor a Carpenter)

I have done all of that and I will admit it did help for about 90 minutes then it was business as usual :(

Tonight it took me 5 attempts to send a sav out to look for advenures. 4 out of the 5 attempts I had the pop up telling me he had gone on his merry way only for 5 minutes later I find him in the tavern quaffing with the rest of the specialists. I think they are trying to come up with a plan to oust the generals and don't want to be disturbed.

Edit.

This is me attempting build build a wheat field. I placed one and then my build queue disappeared and all build options were greyed out. It hung like thise for about 5 minutes

The problem is the guild house. I don't know why, but it causes an insane amount of lag. Demolish it and you'll have a nearly lag-less game (except peak hours). Unfortunately, that may not be possible as a guild leader.

I'm also having similar issues as described in this thread (though not as extreme) and it may be related to building the guild house. I'll try to investigate further.

I have a guild house and experience no lag except when expected (start of events, when free things are given out) other than that I have been pretty much lag free for a long time.

It took 45 minutes to login tonight with just progress bars slowly progressing despite a couple of refresh attempts. When I finally did get in I had random sets of buffs vanishing...

Gytha, I have also been experiencing:
- geos sent out and the deposits only appearing after refresh or visit friend's island
- have to send explorers out more than once before they actually go
- buffs not always being applied
- hourglass for ages on generals and trade

Especially since the most recent maintenance. I'll try clearing the cache...

Generally I don't speak out for this game and try my worst to defend BB (simply because there have not been any reason to), however I now feel I have no choice.
There have been no bugs here since the removal of Halloween event.
All i did after the event was clear browser.
About the update your flash suggestion: use with caution. I've updated flash 3 times this year and every time i've regretted it cause game started crashing. Once i even went back to previous version and enjoyed months of uninterrupted play while others kept whining in chat.
As pointed out most of the issues youre having seem to be connectivity related. I've had serious connection issues with torrent client running even when its limited to only about 5% of bandwidth.

I have 7 generals (3 tavern, 2 vets, Stronghelmet and Grim Reaper) but in my news feed last night I apparently sent 9 generals in 5 minutes to an adventure. Maths was never my strong point but something didn't seem right there.

I'm having exactly the same issues as described in your original post - I emailed support and they said 'connectivity issues' and there was nothing they could do...
I've cleared the cache, cookies, and temp files regularly (can't log on at all at the moment because of "an error on this zone") and nothing works, it is incredibly frustrating, and as mentioned earlier, I didn't change anything, it just started happening after an update...

This list is getting old

My internet connection can run YouTube, Spotify and massive games simultaneously. Yet it has problems running TSO? Alone? I don't think it's the internet connection. Well maybe it is, but not our end of the wire.
It's been tried it doesn't make a difference.
How many times per hour is recommended? Doesn't help at all
How many times per hour is recommended? Doesn't help at all (no I didn't double post this line.)
Increase the amount TSO uses? You're right it shouldn't matter and it doesn't.
Latest flash player, huh? Does that help? Nooooo
Other browsers work better? No. They have their very own issues. After trying them I think I'll stick with the bugs I know.

Cheers, general state of play finally opened. Well, was about the time :)
Anyone can say that thing that i'll put here, and here and here and there doesn't belong anywhere but i've been experiencing the same problem since middle of June. Referring to Longbows quest again, sorry Fexno, you're not to blame for anything, keep up the good work...
Numerous mails were exchanged, numerous posts in forum - for what ? To blame your computer, internet connection, browser, everyone's to blame for clear and obvious problems that arising from this game. My problem is yet unbearable, there are better days, but mostly it's very bad, i observed and can confirm 99.999% that problems come from the server side. Only answer i got so far is that it shouldnt affect my "gaming progress". It does affect my will to even visit the login page ! How to progress with all that issues ?
Simple - dump this game and get a decent one instead.
Sadly that this words are coming out of big fan of Settlers from over a decade and a half.
Settlers 2 (original ver.) beat this messy game for breakfast...

Thumbs up to all folks that are doing the great work ingame and in forums, but something is very wrong with all this, and "we" know who to blame...

This has been happening on the Test server lately, seems it wandered over here in the update.

It's the "Message Of The Day" bit, the same that heads guild chat. Happily the actual message doesn't show from outside the guild:

http://thesettlersonlinewiki.com/uploads/299261084MOTD_External.JPG

Why a window for the in-guild-only MOTD was included in the public view is another question entirely.

This list [here] (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/26313-General-State-Of-Play?p=244044#post244044) is getting old

TSO is buggy, no doubt about that at all, but it's still wise to check the boot/trunk of your car for loose bottles when it starts making strange *whomp* noises before taking it in to be dismantled.

The things on the list won't fix everything (clearly) but they often fix a number of things, when they don't they do help rule out simpler problems and not everyone is familiar with all of them. That said, it would be nice if the Dev Powers That Be were more forthcoming with both humbler levels of [coloured text] and with players, somewhere in the Upper Levels a record is indeed skipping.

[Edit] Okay, okay, I know it's another template and that it was just much easier to leave the MOTD window and block the message, I'm still just a little peevish the member info was removed from public view.

Yep.... me too. Server issues, lag, bugs galore (can't get into the game atm as it keeps crashing). If more people actually bothered to use the forums (a minority do), then you'd have considerably more complaints. The problem is categorically NOT with EVERYBODY else. The problem is with BB and it's obvious inability to handle the game. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Take the game offline for a week. Go through the coding with a fine toothcomb and sort the bugs/issues out once and for all. At least then you'd have a 'clean sheet' from which to work .... until the very first update of course which would then re-introduce all the errors. These issues NEED sorting or people will just give up (and I've seen a lot of people leave recently).

Hiya folks,
after my recent post, means less than 1 day later, my problem misteriously got solved... No more Quest Complete popups... It just happened and i did nothing. Obviously someone took a peep into the server room :)

I tried with my wifes account in another browser and that works fine. Then tried to switch to play my account in IE and my wifes in Chrome and the issue followed the account. So it's account related for me, not browser related. I'm going to send a ticket.

At the risk of jinxing it...

The Xmas event seems to have fixed all the problems I was having. So despite being told it was connectivity issues causing all of the problems the OP listed (which I was having as well - maddening!) it was started after a major maintenance and fixed by introducing the most recent event...

BB - whatever you did/undid with this update, (since I think we both know it's not connectivity issues causing the problem ;) ) leave it undone please! No more having to place buildings or click collectibles or load up gens 3 or 4 times - yippee!! :D

After contacting support they told me to temporarily transfer guild leadership to another account and demolish guild house. My issues then went away. BB then gave me gems to replace my guild house with a gem bought one, which I did. This happened just at the same time as the xmas event started and the issues went away both for me and on the other account even though that account still had a regular guild house. BB says it's a known issue with the regular guild house, but to me it seems it was the xmas update that solved it since it got solved on both accounts. Might have been both though.
