Frequently Asked Questions and Event Window Info

• How do I get Presents?

There are quest chains that give Presents and one Daily Event Quest a day, Explorers can find them on treasure hunts, Presents are tradable in the Trade Office, there is an event Collections buff in the Mayor that uses event collectibles to make Presents, the two Christmas Adventures, "Save the Christmas Feast" and "The Stolen Sleigh" have a chance of Presents in loot, and Presents can be bought with gems in the Merchant.

• How many Presents can the Explorer find?

He has a chance of finding different amounts on different searches, he will not always find them.
Short search: 0 - 5 - 10
Medium search: 0 - 10 - 20
Long search: 0 - 20 - 30
Very Long search: 0 - 30 - 50

Explorers skilled with Sturdy Shovel - Find 3%/6%/9% more loot on every Treasure Search - can also find extra Presents.

• Can Explorers find the event Adventures?

No, they can only be had from the Merchant or the Trade Office. If you get a quest to do one check your Star, it should be provided.

• Why don't I see any Christmas Collectibles?

There is a chance of event collectibles in each new set on your island, sometimes there will be a lot, sometimes only a few and sometimes none. The first chance they have to appear is in the first respawn after Maintenance on the 12th.

•How do I open the new "Christmas Surprise" window?

Click the shooting star on your Avatar.

• I heard it costs gems to open the doors in "Christmas Surprise", that doesn't seem fair. How many gems does it cost?

If you log in every day for 24 days straight and remember to open that day's door getting the rewards won't cost a single gem. If you miss a day it costs gems to open the skipped door, 20 for a regular grey door and 50 for a red or gold Special door, but that is only if a day is skipped.

• Does just logging in count to open a door?

No, even opening just the shooting star doesn't count. That day's door must actually be clicked open.

• What time each day does the new door in "Christmas Surprise" unlock?

On the three EN/UK servers, Sandycove, Northisle and Newfoundland, the new door unlocks at 00.00 GMT, two hours earlier than the 02.00 start of the usual Settler's Day. This also means if the previous door is unopened it locks again at 00.00 GMT and then can only be opened with gems.

• Why can't I open the Special red and gold doors on 6, 12, 18 or 21?

To open the red and gold doors one item from the options on the right must be chosen and confirmed and every previous door must be opened. After choosing and confirming one reward and making sure all earlier doors are open click the special Door again to claim the prize.

• If you miss a day and use gems to open the door do you still get the Gold Tower after opening the 24th door?

Yes. So long as every door is open by the end of the event you get the Tower as the final gift.

• Will I be able to build the gift Gold Tower from "Christmas Surprise" if I'm not level 48?

Yes. Any player at any level will be able to build the Christmas Gold Tower after opening all the doors in "Christmas Surprise".

• What exactly does the Gold Tower do?

It produces one Coin from one Wheat every 12 minutes + plus travel time. It cannot be upgraded but it can be buffed.

• Does the Christmas Tower count against the maximum of three from the Merchant?

No. The event Tower is extra, you can have it and all three from the Merchant.

• Why do all the quests say "Advent Calendar" when it didn't start on the 1st?

"Advent Calendar" was the original name for "Christmas Surprise" but that was quite confusing so it was changed, unfortunately the quest text hasn't caught up yet. The numbers on the doors are tied only to the start of the event, not to any other specific date or holiday. Door #1 of "Christmas Surprise" can be opened on the first day of the event, door 2 on the second day, all the way through 24 days.

• Will everything from the event be available in the Merchant when the event is over.

No, some things are only here during the event. When it's over the two Christmas Adventures, the two Mystery Boxes, the 3 day Premium, Christmas Decorations and some of the buffs will be removed. More Secluded Experiments and and Return to Bandit Nest will become Follow-up Adventures to Secluded Experiments and Bandit Nest respectively and available as chance loot drops. The new Provision House will be available for gems, on the test server it's currently priced at 3,495 but this could change when it goes live.

• What about things I bought like Adventures and buffs, will they be be removed or can I keep them?

Anything purchased from the event will stay and can be used when the event is over. The only thing that will be removed are Presents in Adventure loot, after the event is over it will be just the regular loot.

Christmas is coming! And you know what that means! Much like in previous years, over the holiday season you'll be able to earn presents in the game, which you can use to buy special items in the shop. You can get those presents by (1): - Sending your explorers on treasure searches - Completing the brand-new quest chain - Collecting Christmas Bells, Candy Canes and Gingerbread to produce baskets full of presents. - Or, by buying them in the Shop But this year there is even more: First, you can get great things through our new Advent Calendar (2). Every day, you can open a door and receive resources and buffs. On special days like Christmas Eve* there will be even greater rewards - if you opened all the previous doors. And, if you manage to open all the doors, you'll receive an additional, and very valuable reward too! We've also added a new Christmas Adventure and a new buff which increases the output of your village schools (3). Both of these, and many other great items (4) can be bought in the Christmas shop category.

*None of the Special Doors fall on Christmas Eve.

There is a new feature in this year's Christmas event, originally called the "Advent Calendar" the name has been changed to "Christmas Surprise" to try to make it less confusing. For now the quests still use the old name but the doors and gifts are not tied to holiday dates, only to the start of the event.

http://thesettlersonlinewiki.com/uploads/387320190Xmas_Live_ShootingStar.JPG

Click the shooting star on your Avatar to open the Christmas Surprise window:

http://thesettlersonlinewiki.com/uploads/697239949XmasTest_AdventCalendar1_Cropped.JPG

Beginning on the first day of the event with Door #1 you will be able to open a door a day for 24 days. Each door holds a prize and opening all the doors unlocks the final prize.

http://static.cdn.ubi.com/0034/archive/Forum_int/Pictures/2013_12_dd_xmas/window_regular.png
Type: Regular Door
Description: A regular door that can be opened on most event days.
Rewards: Opening a regular door provides rewards that are chosen randomly.

http://static.cdn.ubi.com/0034/archive/Forum_int/Pictures/2013_12_dd_xmas/window_special.png
Type: Special Door
Description: A special door that can be opened only if all previous doors have been opened.
Rewards: Click the door and choose one reward from the list on the right - the choice cannot be changed afterwards.
Until one reward is chosen and confirmed the special door will not open even with gems.

http://static.cdn.ubi.com/0034/archive/Forum_int/Pictures/2013_12_dd_xmas/window_24.png
Type: 24th Door
Description: The 24th door can be opened on the 24th day of the event only if all previous doors have been opened.
Rewards: Like the red Special Doors you can choose one reward from the list on the right - the choice cannot be changed afterwards.

If you miss a day the locked door can still be opened later with gems, regular doors cost 20 gems while both red and gold Special doors cost 50 gems each. If you log in every day and remember to open the door you needn't spend a single gem on the Christmas Surprise.

The new day's door unlocks at 00.00 GMT, two hours earlier than the 02.00 start of the usual Settler's Day.
This also means if the previous door is unopened it locks again at 00.00 GMT and then can only be opened with gems.

Once all 24 doors are open congratulations! Click the small Gold Tower icon and look in your Star Menu for one:

http://static.cdn.ubi.com/0034/archive/Forum_int/Pictures/2013_12_dd_xmas/gold_tower.png

The Gold Tower makes one Coin from one Wheat every 12 minutes + travel time. It can be buffed but cannot be upgraded.

Every player who opens all 24 doors gets one Gold Tower.
This gift Tower can be built at any level and does not count against the maximum of three from the Merchant.

Event Quest Chain 1

It's Christmas Time!

Merry Christmas, my old friend!
I come bearing glad tidings - and a few new things to make this year's Christmas even better.

Gather round and I will show you the new Advent Calendar - and how to get presents.

• The Advent Calendar
• Getting Started
• Bells, Candy and Gingerbread
• A Basket Full of Presents
• Searching for Presents

Great - now you know all about the advent calendar, and how to get presents!

Quest chain reward: 100 Presents

Please note: The name has been changed to "Christmas Surprise" to make things less confusing, the quest text just hasn't been revised yet. This is not a traditional 'Advent Calendar', instead of beginning on December 1st and running until Christmas the first door can be opened on the first day of the event, the second door on the next day and so on. For more on "Christmas Surprise" click here. (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/26592-Guide-Christmas-Event-2013-14?p=245835&viewfull=1#post245835)

The Advent Calendar

Level 1

First take a look at the brand-new Advent Calendar,
Every day you can open a door and find incredible new things!

For special days like Christmas Eve* or New Year's Eve* you can choose in advance what reward you like to have. [sic]

And if you manage to open all the doors, you'll get a really special reward.

If you miss a door, you can always open it afterwards in exchange for some gems.

Task: Open the Advent Calendar Window.

As you've seen the Advent Calendar has a lot to offer. So make you check back every day to get your rewards.

*The "Special Doors" do not line up with Christmas Eve or New Year's.

Reward: 20 Presents

Getting Started

Quest completed: The Advent Calendar

The next thing I want to show you requires you to be level 16. Please come back when you've gained enough experience. For someone with your potential that shouldn't take too long!

Task: Reach level 16.

Nice, now you have enough experience to be ready for the next task.

Reward: 20 Presents

Bells, Candy and Gingerbread

Quest completed: Getting Started

The next thing I want to show you is how you can produce your own Christmas presents.

For this we need Christmas Bells, Candy Canes, and Gingerbread. You can find these things on your Island - all you have to do is pick them up.

Tasks:
• Own at least 25 Christmas Bells.
• Own at least 25 Candy Canes.
• Own at least 25 Gingerbread.

Good stuff, we should be able to create something nice with those resources you gathered.

Reward: 20 Presents

Note: It may take several cycles of Collectibles to find them all or you can buy them in the Trade Office.

A Basket Full of Presents

Quest completed: Bells, Candy Canes and Gingerbread

Now that we have enough things to build our presents from, we should give it a try!

Click on your Mayor's House, select the 'Collections' tab and produce a Basket of Presents.

Task: Produce a basket of Presents in your Mayor's House.

Nice work! You see, it's really easy to produce presents.

Reward: 20 Presents

Note: 25 Bells + 25 Candy Canes + 25 Gingerbread = 10 Presents
Production time: 1 hour
Click the Basket of Presents from your Star to your Mayor to add them to your stock.

Searching for Presents

Quest completed: A Basket Full of Presents

The last thing I wanted to tell you is that your explorers can also find presents during their treasure searches.

Try it out and send one of your explorers on a short treasure search.

Task: Earn 1 Present through the short treasure search.

Very good, your explorer has found some presents!

Reward: 20 Presents

Note: It may take more than one search to find Presents, make sure you use the 'Short Search' for this quest, it won't count any you find on longer searches.

Reindeers Missing

Quest chain completed: It's Christmas Time!

My reindeers are gone, someone must have stolen them! Without them I can't deliver all those presents!
But you can save the day!

• Practice Makes Perfect
• Replacement Reindeers
• Horses Can Fly!

Great, now I can deliver the presents.
But we still should find out who stole my reindeers, I'll come back tomorrow. Maybe I'll find some clues in the meantime.

Quest Chain Reward: 100 Presents

Practice Makes Perfect

Levels 16+

For the next task you need to be Level 23. Please come back when you've gained enough experience.

Task: Reach level 23.

Nice, now you have enough experience to be ready for the next task.

Reward: 20 Presents

Replacement Reindeers

Quest completed: Practice Makes Perfect

Let me tell you a little secret.
It's not the reindeers that let my sleigh fly. They're just for show.
I mean, I could use kittens, but imagine how silly that would look...

The trick here is a magic potion which can make any animal fly.
So here's the plan:
First, we train some horses, an we gather some wood to build fake antlers with.
After all they need to look like reindeers when people see them flying.

Then I simply give them my potion, and they should be able to help me deliver my presents.

Tasks:
• Pay 200 Horses from your storage.
• Pay 600 Pinewood from your storage.
• Produce at least 200 Horses.
• Produce at least 600 Pinewood.

Ohh, those horses really do look like reindeers. That should do the trick!

I'll head off now and brew the potion that'll make them fly!
This will take a while but I'll be back tomorrow!

Reward: 20 Presents

Horses Can Fly!

Quest completed: Replacement Reindeers

I'm back but unfortunately, I can't find the ingredients I need to brew the potion I mentioned.

Perhaps you could help me out?

Here, take this list. That's everything you need to get. Oh, and bring me some malt beer while you’re at it!

Tasks:
• Pay 20 Herbs from your storage.
• Pay 1 Kettles from your storage.
• Pay 300 Water from your storage.
• Pay 200 Brew from your storage.

And up it goes! Look at how well they fly. They really are naturals!
Maybe reindeers were the wrong choice. It took them years to get used to flying...

Reward: 20 Presents

Event Quest Chain 3

Level 23+

Quest chain completed: Reindeers Missing

Note: There is a 24 hour (approx) delay between completing the second chain and the arrival of the third.

The Evildoer

I found the evildoer who stole my Reindeers! He's hiding on an Island. I guess we need to set sail and pay him a visit!

• Battle Preparations
• The Hiding Place
• Recovering

Alright, now we're ready for anything the Croaker throws at us!

Quest Chain Reward: 100 Presents

Battle Preparations

Level 23+

For the next task you need to be Level 26. Please come back when you've gained enough experience.

Task: Reach level 26.

Nice, now you have enough experience to be ready for the next task.

Reward: 20 Presents

Note: It seems strange there is nothing between the previous quest chain which opens and can be completed at level 23 and this next one to "Do an Epic Adventure". Epic Adventures can't be started until level 42 so there may very well be easier tasks for lower levels that were just difficult to trigger on the test server. If anyone finds they have different tasks or can fill in some blanks please post. :)

The Hiding Place

Note: The tasks vary by level. Lower: 26 - 35 Midrange: 36 - 43 High: 44 - 50. Each player gets just the one set suited to their current level.

Unfortunately, the guy who stole my reindeers has bribed the rulers of the island to protect him! It seems we'll need to take an Army with us if we're going to get them back!

Task:

Lower: Complete 1 Resource Adventure.

Midrange: Complete 1 Experience Adventure.

High: Complete 1 Epic Adventure.

So we've captured the evildoer! Let's see what he has to say.

Reward: 20 Presents

Note:
Resource Adventures: Bandit Nest, Island of the Pirates, Outlaws, Victor the Vicious, Wild Mary
(Island of the Pirates is the easiest of these but still takes work and can be very challenging at 26. Remember, the event runs until 9th January so there is a lot of time yet.)

Experience Adventures: Dark Priests, Gunpowder, Horseback, Nords (the first one,) Sons of the Veld, Stealing from the Rich, Surprise Attack, Traitors, and Witch of the Swamp.
(Dark Priests, Horseback and Witch of the Swamp are the easier ones.)

Epic Adventures: Black Knights, Dark Brotherhood, Roaring Bull and Secluded Experiments.
(Black Knights and Roaring Bull are the easier.)

Recovering

I should have known! The evildoer was hired by the Croaker! I don't know where he's hiding right now, but I think we need to build ourselves back up, and get ready for a showdown.

Task:

Lower: Own 100 Recruits.

Midrange: Own 250 Recruits.

High: Own 500 Recruits.

Good work, the troops are ready!

Reward: 20 Presents

Nice thread.
Something is not clear to me about Event quest chains... There will be only 3 chains during Christmas event or...?

Fexno
14.12.13, 07:52
As far as we could gather there were 3 quest chains and the 3rd chain doesn't pop up right after the 2nd. Most likely you'll just have to wait a few days or so before it activates, or maybe it's linked to the number of days we are in the event. I guess we'll see afterwards ;)

OK, thanks for the info, one of my explorers is on medium search and other is on short, it's been 4 days, which means at least 6 searches between them and 0% present findings, I'll give one more day and then I'm posting possible bug. It's not that much that I don't get presents, it's the fact that I can't fulfill my quest.

That's rather frustrating but absolutely possible. In one set of 10 short searches I did only one Explorer found Presents. It's just the 'chance' of the thing. This is the only quest in these chains that does rely entirely on chance though so once he does find them the rest should go more smoothly.

So i guess this is it. 3 Chains and its over right? Unless something pops out on the 24th... lol

I do have a small caveat about collectibles I would like the studio to clarify. Every day in the Daily Challenge, there is a thing where it asks you to gather all the collectibles on the map. Now for the last two days, this amount has been 34 items and, despite scouring the island for all of these, there isn't always 34 actually spawning in the world...

I realise the team has said sometimes you get none, sometimes a few and sometimes a lot, but if you can't complete it because the amount needed doesn't spawn, what's the point of having it if you're breaking the challenge's rules?

It would also be nice if players earned 5 presents every time the finish the challenge.

Fexno
21.12.13, 09:42
I realise the team has said sometimes you get none, sometimes a few and sometimes a lot, but if you can't complete it because the amount needed doesn't spawn

To my knowledge the stated amount in the collectibles quests always spawn all. (so far I've been able to find them all, mainly because I enjoy the challenge of finding those "hidden" collectibles.)

I've whispered you to ask if I could check your island and see if I can find those you've missed, but didn't get a reply yet. :(

Tiletron
21.12.13, 12:39
Well today I found them all on sandycove, though I didn't yesterday; the problem also happens on the testserver.

Sundisno
22.12.13, 19:46
I find them always but these collectibles can also be in rock, in a castle in a mine, just behind a tree. But I find them all everyday.
Be aware that not all collectibles are immediately visible, there is some delay for the last ones I encountered.

Jamdoggy
22.12.13, 20:35
I have to agree with Sundisno on this matter - I don't believe I've ever had a situation in which the full number of collectibles hasn't spawned on my island. Admittedly however, some of the collectibles have been ridiculously hard to find, being hidden behind trees, rocks or buildings, yet every time I can't find them myself, I enlist help from my guild, and always get them all found eventually.

Sorry to say it, Tiletron, but although you feel you are searching your island fully, I suspect that you are simply not finding some well-hidden collectibles which are there...
