[OPEN] Whisper tab flashes, but noone whispered you

The whisper tab flashes, as if someone has whispered you, but noone has.

either whisper a friend
or type /w w w and hit enter (this will whisper the message "w" to the nonexistent user w)

How could you possibly know that somebody whispered you when you was offline ?

There's an easy known workaround for this - just whisper yourself (or get someone else to whisper you), and it will stop flashing.

To whisper yourself, type (in chat):
/w <yourname> Hi

Obviously, replace <yourname> with your username. Note that as soon as you hit spacebar after your username, the chat will flick to the whisper tab, and what you've typed will vanish.

This doesn't cure the cause of the problem, but at least will stop the annoying flashing.

I used to get this all the time until my first guild folded, then i forgot about it while unguilded (stopped happening), now I have joined a new guild its happening quite a lot again. So my conclusion is that this bug is somehow linked to being in a guild.

Can anyone else confirm whether they noticed this behavior?

Kotugo, i think the link in this behavior is that you are more likely to get a whisper when you are offline while in a guild.

This is a really old problem. Just type /w me
and enter
(though i normally type the word boo and enter :D)

I did test this last year and can confirm it is not because someone whispered you when you are offline. I tested by going offline while someone whispered me and then logging back on and it didn't happen. Yet another time I had logged off for a matter of minutes to refresh and it did happen, conclusion its random.

It's a little bit strange that it's still - after few years - unresolved ...

Why they just don't simply forward all whispers as mails - when recipient is off-line ??

I've seen it happen when someone doing an action to you (like buffing) while chat fails and reloads..
