It's nice to know it'll be longer, but any chance of a rough estimate? 15 minutes? 2 hours? Just some sort of estimate would be most appreciated.
07:44 Paris time, I cannot enter the game.
2 hours ;(
be gone work by then
Meh, same here. Gold production running unbuffed again. A lot of loss cause of this, and same thing 24h ago.
 Great job BB, so as the last week, again a day without buffing before i have to go to work :(
Think its about time BB just said maintanance is 12 hrs long , if we get online earlier its a bonus ..............
No rough estimate at this time, guys. I will update you if I get an ETA.

Could you please put on the face page then that maintanance is running at least 2hrs late so that players have some idea about whats happening and not just left in the dark as not all players go to the forum and try to find out what the problem is,many thxs
Thanks for the update, no ETA at least means it'll take quite some time! Just living with the loss, again :)

I still do not understand why people allow their gold production to continue when there is a known scheduled maintenance about to occur. And if they do purposely allow it to continue, then why do they complain.
Surely everyone knows by now that you can not accurately predict how long maintenance will be, and if the prediction is wrong you lose out. This should be factored into your production/buff cycles.

Cool, the event just begun and I can't send my scouts off for eggs before I go to work.
Add to that I won't get home before sleeping time today, I'll lose a full day.
Not only are all of my high level production chains running (which will lose me wealth when running unbuffed) but I don't get any eggs the first day.
I understand the maintenance can take a bit longer, but given yesterday's price of eggs, I will lose/miss out on roughly 40000 coins of ingame wealth thanks to maintenance duration.
Good job. Way to make customers happy.

There is no ETA, and it is written on the front page, It was updated there the same time it was here on the forums.

I always presume maintenance will start early (sometimes it does) and will take longer (sometimes it does) and plan accordingly. I recommend everyone to consider doing the same.

Same here. Don't understand how people can whine about this nor why they start gold/expansive productions during the maintenance nights.
EDIT: On the other hand, BB is absolutely worthless when it comes to give information to the community.

Im exactly the same, this is been hyped for so long, im up early so i can start before work, i understand sometimes it can take longer but give a time frame, and why not start maintenance early, especially after the issues the other night, i never complain but this time im not happy
IT technicians hate giving ETAs. They just want those affected to sit around patiently until it's done. But press them and they'll give you one. They just never understand how to think of others.

Complains are to be expected. BB sets a schedule and we, as players adapt to it. We make our strategy based on that schedule. The only problem I see here is the inability of BB to keep up with their own schedules thus messing for everyone.

Yeah, problem is today I got a 12-hour working day ahead of me, and because of that I would send off 14 Savage Scouts and 3 regular Explorers on Very Long Treasure Searches (expected return: up to 50 eggs per scout) to return tomorrow when I have time again.
Given that every Scout would return on average about 30 eggs and yesterday each egg was selling 70+ coins on North, that's around 30k coins which I am now at a disadvantage due to not being able to use the first day of the event.
Oh and for the "Get a life" part: I think that's the perfect thing to do for people who have nothing else to do other than tell people on the board on how to arrange their personal spare time.

Maybe it's about time that BB hire some new developers/technicians since the currents ones apparently are worthless...
What makes me wonder is whether BB doesn't know the concept of "Continuous Integration", doesn't understand how to implement it properly, or doesn't care to provide such a service to their customers.
I introduced CI for a client and they can now normally do Zero Downtime deployment (you don't even lose the session!).
On occasion, when a database migration is required, they take about 10-15 minutes for the scripts to run. But that's rare - and only happens when poor legacy code got refactored.

This is an odd attitude. I'd rather maintenance go on a bit longer, than have a BlueByte employee show up and beat me with a baseball bat. I still think they should put some more effort into keeping up with their schedule, and I'm not really that impressed that I haven't been beaten up with a baseball bat.
Hopefully BB just run the active part of the event for an extra day and then we have lost a minimal amount.
Sorry BB but the poor communication indicates lack of respect for your "customers". Please improve in communications.
I have undestanding for the manitenance but not the lack of communication.
Many players have already understood that the maitenance takes longer by the "Play Now" button. Actually for approx 2 hours now!
I still do not understand why people allow their gold production to continue when there is a known scheduled maintenance about to occur. And if they do purposely allow it to continue, then why do they complain.
The bad planning comes from BB, as others have stated they should inform you that maintenance takes 8h instead of 6h, and if they manage to get done ahead of time that's just a good thing. The problem this time is more of the connection issues from 24h ago and then this again in a short amount of time, that is what makes people irritated.
If possible, you always plan for things to take longer time than expected ofc, but you shouldn't have to. Planned for one hour extra this time. but that didn't work either.
When will we be able to get back in the game - this is really annoying!!!

Maybe there was irony there and we failed to detect it?
"I rather spend a couple days in hospital than succumbing to smallpox, since I go to a doctor who doesn't know what vaxing is"
Imagine if Facebook or Google were down like 6-8 hours a week.
Is TSO really that much more complex than Google? Do they have so significantly more customers than Facebook?
No - it's only that BB have crummy, outdated deployment processes which don't meet industry standards.
But of course, it's better to have a 168-hour downtime each week than some unstable software caused by poor engineering practices. :D

Lol whatever floats your boat. Seriously though would you prefer to play a game full of extra glitches? Been down that road wasnt impressed... quit the game and joined TSO.. yes the odd problems but nothing really for me to rather get annoyed about. Oh and yes im a very Odd person :)

Again, taking the vaxing metaphor:
Just because you go to a doctor who doesn't know what vaxing is doesn't mean that dying from smallpox is still normal in the 21st century.
Just because you play a game developed by a company who doesn't know what "engineering practices" are doesn't mean that X-hour-downtimes every week are still normal for IT products.
Lol whatever floats your boat. Seriously though would you prefer to play a game full of extra glitches? Been down that road wasnt impressed... quit the game and joined TSO.. yes the odd problems but nothing really for me to rather get annoyed about. Oh and yes im a very Odd person :)
No, I absolutely wouldn't prefer a game full of even more glitches (TSO is already riddled with them) - my point is that that's not en excuse. They could do much, much worse. But what they're doing still isn't good enough by a long shot. There's no reason to be extremely uncommunicative about the issue. There's no good reason to not set an ETA.
Under normal circumstances, I can understand that maintenance can take some time, and that it's not always possible to fit within the expected schedule. But in the case of TSO, this doesn't really work either. What on earth are they doing to the servers that takes all night? As Sharpelein mentioned, modern deployment can be done with barely any downtime. And no matter what system they're using, there's no good reason for it to take six hours, let alone six hours and then a couple more. It doesn't help that going over the scheduled maintenance time happens all too regularly.
The way BB are handling this maintenance is really lousy. Saying "it could be worse" is technically true, but also meaningless. It could always be worse. It still isn't anywhere near acceptable.

its a game people, that is run via technology....
if there are glitches, they must be ironed out before it goes back on to mainstream....
or all your whiny ass's will be on here again complaining....

Assuming everyone is available 24/7 to jump to the login as soon as servers open again.
Some people actually have something called a "Real Life" to which they must subject their potential online time. And these people actually lose a lot (in terms of game progress) when their online windows get blocked unexpectedly.
To suggest that these people subject their "Real Life" to progress in the game outside the usual game spans is the truly nerdy and absurd statement because it implies taking "Real Life" loss in order to proceed in a game.
Absurd.

"pay peanuts, get monkeys"
You want higher quality, well there's some very good games out there for which you pay.
You choose to spend real coins to get gems, your choice.
I spend a decent amount of euros (100+) to get gems, but I made that choice knowing that TSO is F2P and that I shouldn't expect top notch quality.
My character is "only" lvl 41.
I'm not optimising gold production (I should as it's very expensive in ressources running un-buffed) but hey, am I complaining ?
No. I'm a reasonnable adult, I've weighted my choices and I take responsability for them.
Don't shoot the messenger, don't shoot the devs (or there will be even less of them :D )
Be patient, accept your choices.
Again, taking the vaxing metaphor.........

Was hoping they would bring a nice load of eggs with them to get me in the mood for more eggs in the islands. Expect they are back now, eggless, and i will lose some hours while they search again. As does Wikipedia and many other services which are also free.
Just happens to be that nowadays, a software engineer is (or should I say: "should be") more than a monkey hitting the keyboard, hoping that the gumbo somehow compiles.
Providing a F2P game is no excuse for crummy processes.
It only reveals a company that has no control over themselves and is therefore at danger of losing control over their products, therefore their sales (i.e. bankruptcy).
That BB can't make enough money from F2P to sustain a high quality product is a sign of marketing failure as well, not an excuse.
The industry is tough. Adapt or die. And serving poor quality under pretenses of "It's free" doesn't go very far with people who grew up in "Generation Google".

I wonder how many login attempts each minute the site has just now.......
Perhaps the easter event is a maintanance event ................................
Do you feel the change? You know this event will be awesome - you are eager to do it. But then again - you also know that BB really want it for us to be a great event, so they take the time to avoid some of the bugs. We are hooked no matter how many complaints - BB got us. Problaby because we know the game just gets better and better - challeging us more and more. My compliments to EctoRune - the baseball bat thingy....I laughed for some time. ;)
humpty dumpty fell off the wall
Whether a game is free or not at the basic level is totally irrelevant. It's a business and we are the customers. Problems arise in any business but the key has always been informing the customers. It's really not hard and makes a MASSIVE difference. Nobody expects BB to never have an issue, but we are entitled to expect some service in the way of just being given an update. We play for fun and for me this is right in the middle of the evening for me. I want to get on with the event as do many. I just want to know whether to keep trying every 5/10 minutes or go and watch TV for a couple of hours. Anyone in any industry can give their customers an update, why can't BB?
I vaxed three weeks ago and have lovely clean carpets now. :D
Brilliant! ha ha
For those complaining that BB don't give them enough information on how long it will continue to be down for, it's because they don't know. Despite all the testing that they'll do to make sure these things go smoothly (and i'm not talking the tso testing we log into, they'll have at least half a dozen test environments), there are problems that can crop up when going to the live environment. They first have to find out exactly what the problem is, then whats causing the problem, then fix it, test it, maybe if the first fix doesn't work there's more finding, fixing, testing. It takes time. But you can be sure all the devs are working hard to get it back live.

QUESTION: Longer than who expected? I warned my guild not to bother trying to log on until after 10 am last night. Quite possibly longer than projected or schedualed, but saying the delay is unexpected is going a little far.
I mean no disrespect by this in any way, simply stating an observation. This isn't a problem limited to BlueByte, many games face irregular maintenance times, it simply goes with the business. Although I could wish we would get a gift for the time lost on the easter event, maybe some free eggs,.. or even better a few of those egg hunt buffs to use on friends, hint hint wink wink*
Very Respectfully,

Would it be possible to announce atleast one day before, whether there will be a guild quest reset or not?
You know, such info is vital to active guilds when deciding how to treat active guild quest.
Giving us too little time to deal with it, amplifies the risk of guild chat drama and members giving up this game.
That was on the loginpage since Monday, if you had bothered to read it.

Well ... I would agree with you, but like I already mentioned, Google and Facebook have significantly better processes.
As does Wikipedia and many other services which are also free.
Do you see as many revenue-generating ads on TSO as on FB/Google/Twitter ?
Does the TSO team employs as many people as FB/Google/Twitter ?
Does TSO as the same wide audience as Google/FB/Twitter ?
No.
better processes comes from industrialisation.
industrialisation comes from the necessity of improvement linked to the increased market/scale the product has to target.
If you bake your own bread, you can vary recipe/time/method every day.
Your local baker produces more bread so has better processes, but quality of the bread may vary.
A regional plant manufacturing bread for a local chain of supermarket has significantly better processes, and each day bread taste the same.
A company owning several plants manufacturing bread for a national chain of supermarket has even better better processes, and each day bread taste the same.
Well, for TSO, BB is still a caring/loving local bread maker.
We love the game, it's infinitely better than mass produced erzatz, and it's free.
So you can't have it all :)
i hope it won't be so long as on the germans servers , took till 15:10 i heard .

I have played Many different browser-games and been doing so almost since the first ones started. Some was free, some pay as you play and some just crazy expensive .
I loved playing war-games and that meant allot of online time just to stay alive. I ended up living online. almost got me divorced and gave me heart attack from the stress. Then i found TSO. My old offline fav game. This meant easier online schedules, no rushing to save my towns or waking up in middle of the night to send out attacks. I come as i want and go as i want. my little island keeps working on its own and when ready i take on the odd adventure. perfect timetable and very manageable.
I thank BB for bringing TSO online. I love the game. I love the friends i made. I especially enjoy the different events.
I rather prefer BB to take proper time and precautions to sort out problems than struggling to play afterwards because it was rushed.
Looking forward to Easter. And don't forget to sell me them eggs guys. ;)
I HAVE BEEN TRIED FOR THE LAST 3 HOURS TO CONNECT TO THE GAME AND I CANNOT....
PLEASE INFORM ME ,SO I KNOW WHAT TO DO.
Where be the global pause button that we obviously need for these vacations?
regarding the pricing of 70g per egg
everyone knows prices are nuts before and after event and what is posted as a sell price is not always a realistic price. thinking u can sell 100's of eggs at thes prices is just an illusion at best
I sold 10 eggs for 600 coin yesterday, people were obviously buying at these prices
been trying from 08am to 10am to try to log in to game and still cant log in

I'm almost tempted to create an account on Newfoundland if eggs there are as cheap as that!

last Easter event eggs settled later on in the event at 12-13gc each. they will never remain at 60-70

+1
last easter eggs settled later on in the event at 12-13gc each. they wil never remain at 60-70
There has been extraordinary gold coin inflation since last year due to the Gold Towers and Employee Badges. They will probably not stay at 60-70, but they will probably never get as low as 20gc either.
is maintanance still going on i still cant log into the game

But gc value has dropped a lot in the last months cause everyone can produce it so I dont think we will see those 12-13 prices this event, though I hope I'm wrong. You can see that by the granite price is almost tripled, silos, improved storehouses, even iron ore sells for a lot, and so on. Not to even mentioned the high price of beans, 12k gc for 1k beans I think or something. I rememebr when it was 3k gc (+/-) for 500 beans....
So yeah egg price will be higher than usual in this event probably.
The Settlers Online is under maintenance and it is taking longer than expected.

This depends on how easy it is to get eggs this year, if we get more eggs from adventures, quests and explorers prizes will drop as well. This was why Pumpkins and Presents were cheap
Yes but not 60-70gc when settled, you can get many eggs from explorer searches this event, up to 71 in one go.

Hi all,
All posts regarding last maintenance have been moved or merged into this thread, I'm afraid there were so many posts al over the place that many of you didn't get the usual private message informing you of the move.
The maintenance should now be done, if you still experience issues please contact Support after you try to clear cache and cookies (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/25422-HOWTO-Delete-your-browsing-history-clear-cookies)
