I just went into the trade office to see if I could find some iron to make the attack bows and someone had 1000 iron for 100 coins so I traded and thought to myself well this is good because now I can make at least half of the attack bows needed to complete the quest ... I need to make 150 bows and each bow takes 10 iron ... well my 100 coins are gone and I never got the iron ... when I go into make the bows its still has a red 10 (meaning -10) of 10 needed to make one bow which is what it said before I bought the iron so no iron was given so now not only can I still not make any bows but I'm out my 100 coins ... ugh ... it's hard enough to try to get everything needed to make stuff without getting jipped when trading

are you sure you bought iron and not bronze? it's very easy to mistake and at least on northisle noone would sell iron for just 100 coins per k

or it could have been coal, you can check in your trade history tab. Also trade can sometimes be very laggy. Try a refresh, and/or wait a bit, it will turn up.

I've never had anything 'drop' from the TO - at least not yet....
