View Full Version : Do NOT buy a gempit
Hello Folks,
I would like to warn everybody not to buy a gempit...
When u buy a gempit it says:
Place carefully - this building will not be refunded when demolished!
Place building:
contains 40.000 gems
produces up to 20.000 over the course of six months
will not be refunded when demolished
As it turns out (and I did not know that! or I would have NEVER EVER bought a gempit, let alone a bunch  ) this is only true if you login to your account EVERY DAY!!!!
Due to my health I was unable to login for a long period, I returned to not see my gems increased and I was really really dissapointed to say the least. So I contacted support, and guess what? THIS IS NORMAL
Email from support:
[ Removed ]
So a gempit does not produce 40k a year, but an X amount per day and only if you login...I feel ripped off...to say the least...
So...better make sure you are reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally active and otherwhise never ever buy a gempit, or spend money on BB....I learned my lesson the hard way
Hello IcePackk,

I've been playing quite some time, and up till last year there was still some uncertainty whether the island shut down after 24 or 48 hrs, so your not alone in feeling that BB do not put forward enough `basic' information about their own game from the outset. I'm sure many of the veteran players have got so use to it now, we take it as part of the game and pass on what we learn from other players and the community and rely on very little information of any use coming out from BB.
Sorry you've been ill and unable to play and feel a little cheated by this game mechanic ( There are others who invested in long premium time only to have addy's loot nerfed part way through, and are also not getting the return from their `investment' that they had planned ). In the end all we can do is share it with the community, and hope others avoid making the same mistake, then hopefully the game designers will think about what they do before alienating players who actually invest in the game in the long term. Thank you for sharing ;)
Nothing surprising here, I don't think devs have basic strategy about the game yet alone the components of it so many things like this one happen casually and will probably go without any meaningful response.

"up to 20.000" ranges from 1 to 20000 i think so clever use of words there. :)
Actually the gem pit takes more than 12 months to deplete due to travel time.
Trying to remember if i saw a tip of the day about inactive island. Have reached the state of total uncertainty on the matter.

Sorry about your illness and hope your better.
There probably should be a little more information about Islands going into a paused state.
Made me think a little if you bought a years premium does that go into pause mode after a couple of days of inactivity ? If it doesn't, why ?

Good question.
Good question.
Simple answer: BB's profit line.
I lost my years premium :(
Im not complaining about that, but the fact that I wouldnt have bought gempits if i had known it requires you to be active daily. I bought it as an longterm investment because im chronically ill and have relapses, waiting for antibiotics to kick in and bring me back amongst the living, which now took almost a year... and I dont know how long i can be active or when ill relapse again.
Just think about this..
you have year premium, and gempits and then return, to not even have the gems to buy premium, only to find out it was activity that screws you, which I knew ahead, just not that it was required. I bought something useless to me :(
and no your premium runs out...
which is reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally strange...cause why would someone need premium on an inactive account?
I know...money
Yep, both the above plus having 'special' generals bought with real money just delete themselves from the game, really wish I'd saved my money now.
There seems to be a work-around to this though. Your island doesn't need to be visited by you, but by anyone, so if you can find a friend that will come by once a day and put a fish platter on something you should stay active.
Not optimal, but it lets you continue...

as we all know ya island shuts down if inactive, so can take as long as you want, daily log in is shortest time

It does not say anything about you having to log in daily.
If this was something you bought in DK from a Danish company you would get your money back - this is false marketing,- you can risk getting nothing at all out of it.
I did buy 2- but I am not going to get any more. You never know what can happen.

Not at all, "produces up to 20000 gems over the course of 6 months", could be 0, and that sentence remains true.
It also says contains 40.000 gems - that means if it produces 20.000- you should be lucky enough to get 60.000. It says nowhere you can end up getting 0 gems out of it.

I would believe you more if you said gem pits will be the weekly log in reward for the over 50's.

It really does not matte what you believe. That is what the text says. It says it contains 40.000 gems and that it generates up to 20.000. when you add 40.000 and 20.000 you get 60.000. If this is not right - why do they write that? It is misinformation and false marketing.
No where does it say that you have to log in every day- or that you, if you have placed the gem pit and does not log in- you get nothing.

I've never had one, but just interpreting the sentence "contains 40,000 and produces up to 20,000 over six months" what I read in that is:
1) I doesn't necessarily produce 20k in 6 months - the words "up to" imply that it can produce less under some circumstance
2) It tells me it can produce up to 20k in 6 months, 40k in 12 months because there is 40k in it but maximum rate is 20k per 6 months
So total should be 40k in a year, if whatever condition that satisfies the "up to" is fulfilled. While not well explained, I don't see anything misleading about it.
It says nowhere you can end up getting 0 gems out of it.
They don't need to write 0 anywhere, UP TO covers any number below and including 20000.

The information is fine, your just not understanding it.
Just to add some clarity.
The important information:
- contains 40000 gems - no more, no less, exactly 40000.
- Production speed - upto 20000 in 6 months - this implies it is classed as a production building linked to storehouse - closer to storehouse, quicker you get your gems.
- As it is classed as a production building it is also subject to the same inactivity rules as all your other production building - That means when the inactivity limit is reached it will stop producing in the same way as other workyards - you do not lose gems - will just take longer to mine them
- Like an iron mine, once the production is stopped the deposit no longer produces iron ore, but also no longer depletes.

Thanks corona88. I was looking for that this morning, searching the forums. Obviously overlooked the obvious. :D
The link is even in my auto signature!!

My god, It really is not that hard......
It does not matter how many minerals are in said gem pit, iron pit, copper pit etc....
If you are inactive on your account for 24 hours... it all shuts down until you return (exception is buffs to buildings)
Otherwise, you would have the greedy that set up an island.... leave it for 6 months, to return to vast amounts of everything to sell on TO....
It is that simple.... BB just want active players to play the game....
I, along with many other people feel your pain, and many others who for some reason or another cannot log in on a daily/weekly basis....
But it's a free browser game... If you paid cash for gem's to buy gem pits (which do produce the amount stated even if inactive, they restart when you log in)
Then more fool you for buying a years premium if you know you could be out of the game for weeks at a time.....
Stop blaming BB for your misfortunes in life....

well that is the point - if you are inactive for long enough time you seems to get 0 gems. That is not ok. If you have to be active to get something back form what you paid they the should write a warning that this is so. It is ok that the gem pit is only working when you are active, but it should not run emty if it is not running.
If they write that it contains 40K and produces 20K - that should give 60K. If this is not what they mean to write, I would suggest that they get someone who can write English to give the description a makeover.
Bad google tranlate like translations is a problem many places in this game.
Urd123 - As explained in my previous post the gem pit only contains 40,000 gems - nowhere in the description can be found saying otherwise.
It contains 40000 gems.
It takes approximately 6 months to produce the first 20000.
If you are active for approximately 1 year you will produce 40000 gems (double what it costs) and then the gem pit will be depleted.
the description is fine its your understanding that's flawed..
common sense and now to put this politely having a brain tells you that each mine has 40k total gems but you will get 20k back the cost it took you to buy it in around 6 months

That is not what it says. I dont know what your nationality is,- but maybe your German like the author. It might be you have an understanding of how a gem pit should work beforehand, but the information given should be enough to get to know by reading it - not by guessing what it means. Or they could leave it blank - then there was nothing to misunderstand :p
It says it contains 40K and produce 20K. By containing I understand that this is how much there is in it from start, by producing - I understand that this is made extra (produce= make into existing).
I dont think I am any more stupid or smart than the rest of the players. We are from all over the world. If the information is not 100% clear and correct English it is very hard for especially those of us, who are neither English nor German to understand it.
The first line in the description "Contains 40,000 Gems" tells you what you are buying.
The second line in the description "Produces up to 20,000 gems over the course of six months" provides the time information of how long it will take to get your gems out of the gem pit. It does not imply that you will get extra 20,000 gems on top of the 40,000.
I have bought a couple of gem pits myself and can say they work exactly as i had expected them to.
The information is very clear - however, if you continue to feel that the information is not clear, please contact support (http://www.thesettlersonline.com/en/help-and-support).
Please bear in mind that they may be busy with XXL update at the moment so may take a while to respond to you.
did not have to be either german or English to understood it contained 40k not more

I can't see anything wrong with it. It says it has 40k and produces up to 20k in 6 months. Production mechanics are known to player by the time they buy one and production consumes resources unless said otherwise.
So far only one having the issue is you if the OP post is covered by the FAQ.

It sucks that he/she produced 0 gems while inactive, yet their premium time went poof.
If this is true, then Premium Time should fall into the same category as "production", imo, so that if a person goes inactive, especially if they have RL issues outside of their control, they can then return at a later date to pretty much a similar state as before.

i do agree with the premium being extended but that would mean the same for adventures since they followthe same rule. the time when activated not sure if that is named in the premium as i cant login to check
Premium is a Buff so continues if your active or not, Gem pit is a production building, so stops after 24/48hr whatever it is set at same as all other buildings

I think you can get Premium Time refunded if you contact Support and they can see you've not been active during those days.

Unless something changed very recently, regular production buffs, like buildings, also pause after 24 hours + a few minutes of complete zone inactivity. This is easy to check these days with a longtime inactive friend and Aunt Irma's Feasts.
The exceptions to the standard 'inactive = pause' are, off the top of my head:
Colonies ~ They have short timers regardless and do not have time added to cover Maintenance.
Adventures ~ Many last long enough to hit the 'inactivity' line but do not pause. They do have time added to cover Maint.
Premium ~ May last long enough to hit the 'inactivity' line but does not pause. They do have time added to cover Maint.
Possibly Guild Quests ~ The Member List will show "inactive" after 24 hours but it may be 48 before members are actually dropped from the quest count. Every time I try to catch it specifically something goes hinky.
Confused yet?

Indeed, I use this (along with other checks, like mailsending) to determine whether inactive players has been online and playing or not at all, since I put Sandman buffs on their Taverns.
Confused yet?
Nope, but maybe I'm not blonde enough..

ALL MINES STOP PRODUCTION AFTER 24 HOURS INACTIVITY.... he did not loose his mines... they just stopped producing until he logged back in....
Premium time = buff..... they run out for the length of time it says they stay for even if inactive.....
If you do not log in, you still get your 40k gems, just a bit slower. It stops, just like every building.
whats he whining about?? pointless drivel..he will still get his gems..i bought pits and well worth it
