Does anyone know when we can log back in to see changes as mine still says is ongoing ?
Like usual, just have to wait AgyM.........if it says its ongoing, its ongoing!

I'm already used to creating threads just to keep track of frustrated players clicking the "Play now" button without success. Ravel, any news regarding this extended maintenance?

In general they finish before the announced time but lately lazy scripts don't run as fast as expected.
UPDATE 8.50 AM: As you can see, the maintenance is taking longer than expected.
We will post more updates as soon as possible.

Sorry BB that is not an update its stating the obvious, an estimated time of resumption of the game would be more of a help.

hope this time we'll get a premium coin. last week premium was extended, but it was no use (was almost evening, so didn't have the time to play all advs I wanted) literally you wasted my prem coin and seems like it's going to repeat :(

So far:
Cleared out that glory hole under the work surfaces in kitchen.
Done the washing up.
Emptied the rubbish and (!) actually washed out the swing bin.
Took out the recycling
Cleared my junk mail folder
Some of these are unknown activities in this household.
Keep it up, if it goes like last week the whole house will have had a clear up/wash down, but I will still be very unhappy.

Why does maintenance still come as a surprise to some? It's always on Tuesday. Yes they had a shocker last week. Cut the team some slack. My background is in IT. When servers don't work to plan, it is very stressful for the team, just like when your computer at home doesn't work the way it's meant to.
And don't run your special mines over maintenance if they aren't fully topped up and buffed properly. My arctics had 20k and a 24 hour buff on before maintenance. No problems.
They need to change the line "End at approx 08:00 am BST" to "We really have no idea". Why even post an approximate time? Once again, my buffs are all off schedule, mines depleted that should have been refilled, buildings running that I would have shut off. 3 hours overdue is not within any definition of "approximate" that I have heard before. I'm in the habit now of making sure anything precious like my Arctic Mine is off before maintenance because I can't trust the time frame like I used to be able to.

btw - if you post time with all digits (e.g. 08:00) it implies a 24 hour clock so the am is redundant - but that might be just me

My background is in IT also... and I maintain a QA environment. I post a realistic time frame (over-estimating if necessary) so expectations are not raised. But those decisions are made before posting the time for the outage. If I have any reason to be unsure of the time involved then I add a buffer so the users know it might take longer than usual. But I am able to test my upgrades before deploying, which it appears in this case is not possible (and I wonder why). I am well aware of the stress and the surprises that can occur, but I wouldn't post a 'generic' outage time every week when I know the scripts are running with deeper changes.
There must be a way to know if it's a "regular" maintenance or a "special" maintenance and adjust the estimated time frame accordingly.
And btw I have my buildings and buffs set appropriately assuming I can trust the posted outage. If you can't trust that, how much buffer do you give yourself - enough for days - weeks - months? In a game like this you need to be able to trust time because so many things are closely tied to it.

Woke up, made coffee, logged in, immediately thought, "Here we go again!".
I have Red Flying Settlers running out about now, but it could be worse.
I might not have had forethought to skip my Arctic Mine.

Although, I really shouldn't be having to consider how long maintenance might over run when working out my buff schedule. I am almost wishing for the 'good old days', when all we really had to worry about was whether maintenance was gonna start earlier than advertised.

It certainly looks like the bad old days are back and it will have to be a case of bite the bullet or spend 30 or so minutes making sure all is turned off in future.

Time to look for a game that's more reliable I think.
I really feel for people like Fisho1 in a different time zone that lose out on a whole days play because of this. We never really get a proper apology or proper compensation in my view.

INCOMPETENCE is the only reason!!!
I Want my 800 gems back bought 1 week premium and will lose it becuase of this. I can only play til thursday night maybe friday morning and now a whole day I could have spent on leveling and farming with premium is gone. And next week doesnt help me. And it doesnt help me that i get a few hours longer. I can not play after thursday that much for nine days. So well 800 gems is throwed away :(
And Yes I like and I understand game will need to fix upgrades and bugs/lags and so on. But this isnt ok.

Extended yes but if you cant play and use that time you extend it? All doesnt live by computer everyday and can play 24/7. So for me this doesnt help at all.

seriously not getting all this. this maint and the last one took 24h of game time not to mention time wasted afterwards on repairing the island, damages to production that was constantly monitored and buffer, 24 hours that explorers were idling etc. And the point of it all, is in the end no premium day to make up for a day spent and all we get is glue, deposit and pvp buffs that not all players use...
Shape up and plan accordingly, if maint is such a huge task, then divide it in weeks to come. Not everything has to be changed on one maint...
wonders why they dont mirror the server, run the update on the mirror, see if it works and then launch it.....
erm isn't that called a test server?....

I had premium running last time and lost almost a full day premium because the servers where down till 6pm

Oh for crying out loud still no game!!:( I think I will have put my island to sleep every time there is a maintenance coming up, we lose far more than the paltry compensation they give us. I'm begining to wonder if this is the latest ploy by BB to get lots of our resources of the server.
And please please stop giving us PVP related things in the compensation....there are a lot of folks that don't want anything to do with your so called PVP.
This is just a repeat of last Tuesday. Promise after promise made and then broken. It gets more like politics every day. It doesn't matter what they say WE all lose. A few free gifts will not fix this, it needs to be properly sorted out.

I dont care about extended time for adv. and prem. That absolutley correct to do. That you shouldnt say its a fact we get it. What about us who bought premium (gems) do you really thinks that we understand and will throw our gems away everytime?! We pay to benefit our game and that we can play. Doesnt help us at all to get few hours extended on adv/prem. Give us premium days as 1 day prems a stack of them as payment back. That will give me more than this.
What would you do when people drops off and stop buying gems?!

quick note to BB was trying to get from lvl45 to 46 on 7 day premium still had 280k xp to get nice surprise if TSO gave me xp instead of gift's I really don't whan't

To be absolutely fair to BB it should be gems, not because they are particularly useful but because gems = real money and it is the only thing that they can send that says "hey, we've messed you about, so in return we are sending you something we don't like giving away because it actually costs us cash"

Hello, I am of the thinking that you probably enjoyed game a lot. and now not as much. I hope you got enough entertainment for your money.
I think BB sells gems at a reasonable price and one can enjoy game without purchase. I really appreciate a company that does that in the gaming world.
I have over a thousand friends in my list, and over 95% no longer have a green dot. Any game only lasts so long with intensity.
I am satisfied with their selling structure in relation to gameplay as just an option. I think you may actually agree. : )

I think that is kinda the problem actually god666. I myself have spent money on the game but since I realized how incompetent they were is stopped. It seems to me that an awful lot of ppl have come to the same conclusion. The problem for BB is that rather than realize why people stopped spending money on the game (ie the downtime, bugs, lack of customer service, inability to chat to friends etc) and put that right. What they in fact did was starting writing "more features" to encourage ppl to spend cash. In turn this has lead to even more downtime / bugs etc and even less ppl spending, so in turn they start writing even more content with even more bugs. Essentially a vicious downwards spiral. Time and again BB have been told by players through the support channel or the forum channel to troubleshoot the bugs and keep the game available to restore confidence. Time and again they have failed to address this. Clearly BB are under pressure to increase revenues, but sadly are going about it completely the wrong way. I fear that at this rate it will not be long before the parent (Ubisoft) step in and close the whole thing down (as Square Enix did with Final Fantasy 13), because BB are basically destroying one of Ubisoft's prime assets i.e. The "Settlers Franchise". As far as I am concerned it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world because there might at least be a decent settlers game down the line somewhere.

How you can roll out buggy update after buggy update, again and again, and not once, ever, publicly apologise for the atrocious service defies all decency and sense.
Keep your Colony Mode buffs... Keep your omniseeds... Keep your extended premium time... Keep everything you are going to send and give it to someone who gives a hoot!
Instead...
1. Send 100 gems to anyone who loses their login bonus. (Not just to everyone, because that is not fair!)
2. Send a premium token to anyone who has premium active for them to activate when they will be able to make best use of it!
3. Have whoever has been responsible for these last two updates going pear-shaped draft a statement of apology to be posted on the News section of the front page as a mark of RESPECT for your CUSTOMERS.

Oh i've never had a problem but then BB have never had such bad problems of late with maintenance over running way way way over schedule. Normal maintenance time end i can be back on in the afternoon but now it's 1:15am. But as you pointed out no matter the time zone we all get affected somehow

That would be amazing. :D But since it's clear some of that would never get through even baby steps from the people/person writing and authorising these, whoever they may be, would be welcome. The spirit of the bold bit would be an excellent start.
The grinches and gremlins and piebald accordianists, while not infuriating, have certainly been completely daft for a very long time. While the idea may well be to avoid "confusing" people who've had no issues, or not noticed issues due to timing, the habit of pointing wildly at some made-up thing whilst declaring "We didn't do it, the side-winding gouger did! It's his fault! We saved you! :D" really just beggars belief.

Yes, people chose to pay for the game experience they want- and this impacts it- so in that respect the it's a free game doesn't hold
lets put it like this: if not enough people use the paid features- the plug would have been pulled already on the game so in that respect issues that impact willingness to spent money on the game will impact all players regardless of the amount of money they spent in game

Just for the record, new features mean way more to me, as a paying, active player than further bugfixes. It's ridiculous that we can't have both a stable game with reasonable maintenance periods, as well as a regular schedule of new feature rollouts. But if I had to choose one or the other, I'd just more features ten out of ten times.
Playing the game now, I am dying of boredom. I originally started to play TSO because I had a job with internet access and regular downtime to fill. Now I'm playing because of the social aspect. I have a guild filled with interesting, funny, really nice people I talk with. If it wasn't because of them, I would have left ages ago, and I certainly wouldn't have bothered buying all those gems. This is a sentiment I've seen echoed again and again - the game itself is really bad, but filled with really great people. In my guild, when we're told one of the veterans are leaving the game, it's always the same story. It's too boring, and the only reason I stuck around for so long was because of the guild. I've certainly never heard anyone say "the game is great, but the bugs and occasionally over schedule maintenance has ruined everything for me". I can't even imagine such a situation.
Do you know when TSO is interesting to me? When something new comes out. Fairy Tales, Skill Books, PvP, the seasonal events. All of those see a sudden flurry of activity and interest for me. Those are the times where I have something to strive for in the game. Something to do, other than look at my fully upgraded island and do RB in my sleep. The rest of the time, it's basically a glorified chat room.
This is all to say, that I definitely don't think you should listen to the people in this thread, saying to keep the game as is, and fix the bugs. They don't have any data to back up their claims anyway. It's all anecdote, and my anecdotes go in the strictly opposite directions. Why on earth is the max lvl still 50? The same as it was when I joined 2½ years ago? Where is the next tier of buildings, and the next tier of troop types. The next tier of adventures?
For the love of Hyela, get some damned content into the game.
I say keep the game as it is while fixing all bugs, then before adding new stuff thoroughly test the stuff for bugs, before letting it go live.

The missus (ladyloocan) just got back from work and wishes me to send huge thanks to BB for this extended maintenance. Apparently the house hasn't been so clean and tidy since we bought it. Just the last few cobwebs to remove from the shed and I can have a nap till 5pm +/- depending on next update. Still, it's sunny outside....
At the next maintenance do your self a favor and write "Will be down for 24 hours", then there will not be so many posts in here..

Very valid point there. If TSO was the only game in the world, maybe wont mind the extreme slow rate of updates. But BB you need to realize there are tons of games out there to play / socialize and more essentially, spend money on. If there is another place you would have us gripe, please let me know and I will willingly do it. We need new content, desperately.
Having agreed to EctoRune's points, a game's stability is entertainment factor is high in deciding if I want to spend money on it. I spent decent amount on gems, but now its hard for me spend money when I don't believe in BB's ability to keep this game going further. These are by far the HIGHEST down times I have ever seen on a game, and the consistency of "unforeseen problems" just leads me to believe there is no progress happening. I am sure there is tremendous pressure on developers to deliver, but just putting pressure on developers is not the salvation we need. Identify problems, bring more resources, change strategy, but demonstrate something please. My belief now is that TSO will just keep going the way it is and then in a year or two, we will suddenly get the news that servers are shutting. I for one am not going to invest any more money in this. I am even warning new players in my guild not to buy gems at all unless they don't mind throwing away money.
Now, I agree this might seem as rants of just 1 guy, but.... what if there are others feeling the same way? What then, BB?
At the next maintenance do your self a favor and write "Will be down for 24 hours", then there will not be so many posts in here..

Its true, people are leaving the game because of this!
How can we not wonder that with the bugs and glitches mounting exponentially, the plug wont just get pulled?
Not only is it a bad service, BB is doing itself a dis-service as potentially paying players leave in droves.
I understand people leaving the game when a maintance takes so much more time then it should.
If i would break a timeline at my work like this, i would be out off work ASAP

Iv only been a member of this great community for a short amount of time but as a new player, I can see the problems in the game and how difficult it is to get new players to stay with this level of up-time. I hope this is just a couple of bad maintenances in a row and it wont be a regular (weekly) occurrence. See you all when the servers come up (I may need my mines buffed) haha

Awwww, I chose the wrong server, I too, am in Sandycove, and my mines died at approx midday today :(
I am sure this is frustrating for the team running maintenance as they have to answer to someone?

I'm not one to complain all that much, and generally defend BB against those that are never happy, but this is close to 24 hours of down time now. There's only one word for that -

This came up during last week's outage but I'll post it here... PLEASE NOTE:
The play for six months and one year achievements are clearly stated to be "non-consecutive"... that means that should you miss a day (for whatever reason) the counter WILL NOT RESET. It will just continue on as and when you manage to log in again.
The worst will that happen as a result of this outage is that you will get the achievement a day later than you would otherwise.
There are a lot of reasons to be unhappy about what has happened today... and last week for that matter... but this is NOT one of them!
Well at least it would give us something to do other than the housework.
