View Full Version : Buffs not remaining for full term.

I have noticed on several occasions that my buffs either self placing or for friends are running out well before time. I gather this is also happening for at least one other in my guild.
I have only noticed it on Feasts so far and will try and obtain a screen shot.
Interesting... I use an independent timer program to remind me when important buffs are running out, and it matches the game buff time to the second.

I and a fellow guild member have noticed that it's a regular occurrence for Aunt Irma's feasts to run out (not all of them) before their time. I generally find around 3-5% run out before the others. I've noticed this up to 6 hours before they're supposed to be ready to rebuff, but it could be longer.
I wonder what could be causing that. For 'special' buffs like lucky charm or such I typically set up a timer to remind me and I haven't seen a problem with those. With feasts, I use quite a few each day. I use them in very close to the same order every day (I'm rather pedantic that way) and the next day I can watch them run out in the order that I placed them and just move through the same buildings in order like I did before. So I haven't noticed this at all. Is it just the visual display of the buff (e.g. when the building is clicked on is the buff still there and it's just the visual part not showing?) How much time remains when you mouse-over was recently added, perhaps it affected something?
I wonder what could be causing that.
Rollback and/or strange things during maintenance.
Good thought - that would make some sense I think (not that it makes it ok, just that it makes it explainable).

No, they are definitely no longer buffed, and it happens on most days, not just days following maintenance.
Also, of the 4 people who have noticed and reported it on this post (that is Mortallicus and another member of his/her guild, me and 1 other member of my guild), we all spotted it with feasts, so it's possible (likely?) that it doesn't occur with other buffs, including special ones.
I have also experienced this, and a more annoying bug that means losses of the buffs without the effects. Using a stack of 25 baskets or employee of the month badge or irma's feast often gives less than 25 buffed buildings.
Using a stack of 25 baskets or employee of the month badge or irma's feast often gives less than 25 buffed buildings.
eh? Are you sure you are being patient enough to make sure each one takes effect? Otherwise what you are saying makes no sense - using 25 buffs doesn't give you 25 buffed buildings? I must be missing something...

Ever heard of the fact that there are bugs in this game? :D
It may be that the number in stack is wrong in the star menu or due to lag when using the buff or something else.
To be fair I have not had trouble with buffs for a looong time if any seem to be missing they appear back to star soon.

Some of my feasts run for a few hours then stop or about 18 hours then stop. I am well acquainted with the buffs not always taking straight away so I always wait for them to start and check them periodically.

Strangely enough, the fact that this is in a "Bugs and Technical Issues" section seems not to have occurred to you.

Dangnabbit. Thought this was "Useless Venting Noone Cares About" section. Must have taken a wrong turn somewhere. Ill be leaving now..
Just happened to me for a Goldfever..
Had an Industrial Gold Mine prembuffed by a friend about 4 hours ago and that Goldfever is gone now. That friend did log off soon after buffing me.
(I also had some shortbuffs (tricks) from him on other buildings but in another sector far away from this IGM. Those buildings have been rebuffed since then and were so right before I found this Goldfever buff gone.)
As previous I suspect this is about some kind of a (server) rollback, triggered by unknown reason.

I was so pleased to see this thread today then realised i had started it. I really must get onto the main forum more :D
Anyhow i still have this problem. I can buff all my bronze so that they all need a re-buff at the same time i check they are all 'tinkling', I check my stacks that are left and they are the right number. I can then see a few hours later that a few have stopped tinkling so the buffs are then out of time.
I wonder what could be causing that. I use 24 hour buffs on an exact time frame each day (which fits with my lunch hour at work) and they expire exactly when they are supposed to.
My wife and I also cast a lot of buffs on each other for certain buildings and they also time out exactly. I know because I run an independent timer program to track when important buffs will end and it always works to the second.
So there must be some kind of other issue going on, it's not core to the common game code (at least on this server).

Well I am not alone it seems with this issue. A fellow guildy buffed a load of stuff for me Today (well technically yesterday now it is past midnight) that I gave them Grilled Steaks for and a few hours later ( I noticed after about 3 and a half) they had all dissapeard off my coal producing buildings but were still going for all the rest, does anyone have another idea apart form roll backs as I was online all the time chatting when I noticed this with no glitch or throwing out.
I got this too today. I had 5 copper smelters buffed at the same time with grilled steak and today 2 of them didn't have any buff and 3 had 1d 6h 40min left.

I contacted support and they wanted me to among other things update my browser and flush my DNS cache
The whole response felt like there can't be any problem in the game and the fault is in my computer and support won't do anything unless I respond within 48h

My understanding is the DNS cache does clear itself periodically. I have had this problem for a very long time now and my DNS would have cleared itself for sure. Yet it still happens. I think the main problem is that it is intermittent and also only happens for certain players. Since I first had it i have changed from win 7 to 10 and bought a new laptop. :D Still happens.
The only other thing i think it can be and i am ready to be shot down in flames as I have next to no computer knowledge is that on this server there are bugged segments that can not be 'cleaned' unless blocks of players stop play permanently and that is unlikely to happen. The only other thing is a complete roll back for everyone and I for one would hate that.
DNS is the system that translates domain names to IP address. Example www.thesettlersonline.com -> 194.169.249.184, w02chat01.thesettlersonline.com -> 194.169.249.185, etc.
So the only affect it has to the game is if there's a connectivity problem.

Perhaps proxy servers are messing up here.
Perhaps proxy servers are messing up here.
Or even the DNS servers.
I've had it too, feasts all gone bar one early ( all applied at the same time, remaining one still showing 4hrs ). It messes up production and consumption, so it needs sorting fast.

I play on Sandycove, so it can't be something unique with that server. As posted before, I use an independent program to track buffs on important buildings, and the buffs expire within seconds of when the timer program says it should. This applies to all known buffs on all known buildings.
There must be something odd going on unique to certain players, and I can't imagine what. Does anyone ever run anything that overdrives the CPU or otherwise messes with the system clock?

It's not a local "graphical" issue. Both island owner and visitors do see the same here - some buffs are gone too early.
It's not something going on unique to certain players. There are several differences between your experience and players reporting here. Most significant is the amount of years spent on building and organizing the island. I doubt your island are comparable here.
You use 24 hour buffs one time a day. I use several kinds of buffs and have most of my buildings buffed by different people at various times.
Please, stop make all these "it's-all-fine-here-so-problem-at-you-must-be-your-own-fault"-posts. They are rather rude and not helping. We already have support for such response so no need for you to do the same.. :p

I was saying no such thing. I'm sorry you took it that way. I was trying to offer information to help in the diagnosis. To debug an issue requires both what fails and what does not.
I use a variety of buffs on various buildings, and so does my wife, and we've never seen this issue. Of course everyone's islands are different and buff patterns are different. I tend to do my own 'normal' buffs and I do many for my wife so we're running very different timings. I think between the buffs we use and the buildings we use them on pretty much every combination is covered frequently.
Therefore it seems a common server issue isn't the problem, and it doesn't affect all players, the question then becomes what is unique here? What do the affected players have in common - there must be some link somewhere because (usually) bugs don't randomly affect some people and not others. I agree that there is some kind of bug that much is clear. I hope you can narrow down the common element so that a fix can be focused on.
Hi Xibor, I've been suspicious of this happening occasionally, but, I suspect like many others, put it down to `my' mistake. But this occurred on a group of buildings all buffed at the same time with the same buff ( feasts ) Another group of buildings were buffed also and these as well as the single one of the original group were still showing 4hrs remaining. They were all sparkling when I applied the buffs and logged off, on logging on the next day some were not, hence adding to this post. The only thing I can think of is that for some reason those that were no longer `buffed' were recorded on the server as being aunt Irmas and not feasts.
On a side note a few weeks ago I had a `packed wheat field' exhaust over night, which I thought odd as I have a pretty balanced ( slight minus when bread is in full production ) wheat use/ refill set up, and yet I had normal fields still nearly full. There are some odd things going on at the moment..

Hi , Yes my 24 & 12 hour buffs are running out early 4 hours for the 24 hour and 2 hours for the 12 hour buffs
This has been passed on and I will let you know when more details become available.
Thank you for your reports!
Don't know if this is related but today for the guild quest a fellow guildie sent me a trade during his lunch break, arriving home from work no such trade showed in my mail box even though it should have been there for about another 2 hours before timing out.

Hi, I see strange behavior these days, I see that building lose buff randomly, the issue is more annoying when this happens to expensive buff specially, last week I lost 3 buffs total, 1 steak, 1 basket and 1 snack, so I'm sure this happens, the issue simply that friend buff my building, and after a few minutes or even hours the buff removed from building and no more buffed.
I'm sure 100% this is bug, don't tell me to refresh I do refresh, i see buff exist, I log later I see buff gone, last time I did 4 buffs on 4 buildings, this morning I see 3 buildings still buffed, and 1 lost its buff, all with same time and must end together, all buffed together with same buff, the one what lost its buff was second in order from 4 buffs , the buff still need like 7 hours to end from now.
Before 3 days, i did buff with my friend on 2 of my buildings, after 10 minutes, 1 building lost the buff, the buff not returned back to friend also, its just gone !
I'm watching this behavior from time.
Its a steal, its happens to any kind of buff, cheap or expensive !

I have had it a couple of times with stadium snacks. It seems the buff stops when the person placed goes offline. I mailed support about this so they are aware of it.
are you guys sure that 1 from freinds list isnt just placing stop buffs on "random" buildings?

Stop buff cannot be placed on friend building, and you will get email for any buff that friend make.
And the buff was active on building for a few minutes, even after refresh, so I'm sure that friend did that buff.

This is really steal !
I have made many posts about using external timers and the buffs always come out right...
however....
I might have to recant my statements.
For a couple days one of my weaponsmiths hasn't been buffed when I looked and all the others had. They are all in a group and I always do them the same time each day with a 24 hour buff. I thought the first time that I just missed it, but then the 2nd time I really started wondering about it.
I'm watching this much closer now and will try to both confirm that it sometimes happen to me and also to see if I can determine a pattern. In this case it's a steel weaponsmith, and I'm casting the buff and it's a Feast..
Same bug here, 2 red flying settlers placed at the same time, one disappeared, one still running.
guess what, i got the generic "clear your browser/flash cache" mail.

+1 for bug, -1 for BB
We are loosing buffs BB. Can you do something about it BB? Im really tired about all those performance issues, lags and so on (flickering whisp tab, crashes, freezes, and so on and on). I know some bugs are caused by flash but some not. Im not interested in new content i can enjoy this game without anything new but i cannot enjoy this game with rising count of bugs...
Or i have proposal: If you are not able to fix old issues then pls stop introducing new ones (i mean bugs)
here too. groups of buildings all buffed at the same time with 24hr buffs - log on, some finished, others not :(

Happened to my lv6 Fairytale Castle. A Stadium Snack ran out prematurely - no idea when, but it should have been running til 9pm, it was out when I came home from work. Shrugged it off, but at a loss of 150 Magic Beans per hour, that's not all that funny.

We need a confirmation from BB that this is definitely going to be resolved and soon.
Note: I started this thread 15th May 2015 Other players started to confirm they had same problems from 4th June 2015 BB Ravel's Statement confirming the complaints had been passed was the 3rd February 2016.
This is costing players a fortune in resources.
Have seen several on global/help complaining that the fairy fire they were sent to try out the zone buffs only lasted 1 minute, mine just lasted 10 seconds, I had collects to find when it went on and still when it stopped 10 secs later.

same here. It lasted about 1 minute
Very odd - I have no idea how long it lasts because I find all the collectibles so quickly when it's running. Is this a new issue? Do the same players have problems with buffs not lasting the full time? (I wonder if there is a connection).
Logged out and upon my return to game about a hour later the reindeer buff had ran out according to the zone buff window yet I still see reindeer on my island.
Edit 15 mins later the buff is back after visiting a friends island.
Threads merged.

There is now a new bug - The Island buffs not running to full term and altering upon visiting and revisiting other islands. This is very different and I cannot understand the need to merge the two threads.

But likely to be two different bugs I would have thought. But maybe I know nowt :D
To add to this. Today at 17:49 I notice someone has put a Reindeer buff on my island (zone buff to turn animals to reindeer), says it wil run for 10 days + whatever. Later at 19:20 I notice the buff has gone.
Zonebuffs seem to randomly disappear. And then come back... I have Reindeer Bait and Thousand snowflakes on and then suddenly the screen blinks and snow disappears, but reindeer stay on.
Later after visiting an adventure the snow came back. So it seems it has somethign to do with advs starting/ending.
There'd be pics of the before and after if I could get the pic attachment thingy to work at all. Stupid forum.

Any chance the Fairy Fire vanished when a "New Quest" or "Quest Completed" arrow popped up? Or something else happened, like new mail?

Nice. Made sure the screen shot was added to the issue report.
Thank you!
Same here, since the separation of the zone buffs from the tavern; duplicated on three different versions of the game!
The game is too bright for me so I constantly use sandman's powder, the problems encountered with the new feature:
1. when the game loads there's no sign of the buff (it's day + the zone-buff indicator shows there are none active)
2. randomly the buff is deactivated - it's somehow connected to some kind of a background reload as at the same time I get notification about new/completed quests that I already got notified about when the game first loaded
temporary fix is to visit another island and come back, temporary because the situation from point 2 can happen few times within an hour...
Would be good if anyone cared to look into this:-s

I lost Fairy Fire for 2nd time yesterday, I sent a ticker they just telling that they investigate the issue I provided screenshots too.
I've had the fairy fire issue several times now, every time there's been a game notification (provision house finishing making a buff, troops being completed etc) it wipes the fairy fire out. I'm happy to buy gems to play the game (works out cheaper than going to the pub every night) BUT if I am paying for something that is supposed to last 5 minutes I'm not happy when it's all over after 2 minutes.
I bought 21 Fairy Fires last Thursday (enough for 3 collectible quests a day) and had to buy more this morning (Tuesday) which by my reckoning is at least 6 (possibly 7, maybe even 8) buffs which have been swallowed up by this bug (and 54-72 gems wasted)
Dear BB please sort this out soonest - Thanks
PS excellent screenshots Iolanthe - perfectly sums up the problem

Thanks Ravel. However, the Dev. Blog about today's fixed states this "Zone buffs last the intended amount of time." I don't know if this bug affected zone buffs as I don't use them. I was referring to building buffs.

Yep. Definitely still ongoing. Just lost a Stadium Snack. I don't know what details I can give you honestly. Placed by guild buddy, today (19:02 GMT+1), S3 sector on Imp. Butcher.
most likely this is another bug connected with the collectibles "new quest" popup -> Perfectly caught by Iolanthe's screenshot (btw. i suppose that Fairy fire vanished with the "You have received a new quest" message and not the "New mail" one)
has nobody noticed the game goes to a complete halt for a brief moment when this happens ? or if you're holding a mine aiming to build it it just vanishes with that silly new collectibles quest popup ? (not always but sometimes that still happens too)
please give more info so they can investigate and finally fix it, thank you all in advance :)
Info hopefully aiding in diagnosis of buffs running short (my wife and I don't have the problem but maybe some of this will demonstrate a difference with those who do):
We are in the same guild and on each other's friends lists
When casting buffs on myself, I move as fast as the screen lets me
When casting buffs on my wife, I wait on each one until I visually see the buff start and I hear it chime on both of our systems
Feasts are the usual buff but many others are used
Almost always we are both online when buffing the other
Almost always we are on the same wireless connection - we also play on different mobile broadband connections but buffs are very rare
Maybe some of the above will add to a 'baseline' of some kind
When is this issue going to be fixed? I have just lost another 180+ lot of steak buffs. My buffing buddy placed them less than 8 hours ago :( This is costing way more than I would like. Should we just stop using the steak buffs?
A while back the old problem of production buffs not sticking/ending too early was merged with the newer zone buffs ending early problem (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/30875-Buffs-not-remaining-for-full-term.?p=296894&viewfull=1#post296894). This seemed, even at the time, like a too hasty mistake. Fingers crossed it's clear now that the fix for the zone buff issue did not fix the regular production buffs issue.
If it's possible to check it would be worth making sure the vanished production buffs haven't reappeared in the buffer's star menu, when it's a quick-fail that often happens. Might also send a nudge ticket to support, if they don't hear anything directly for a while it's not unusual for things to be filed under 'No-one has said anything in [time], so it must be fixed.' or 'Oh, you're the only one who's had a problem.''
In sum ~ I know that's not terribly helpful, but it seems to be the current state of affairs until proper news rolls in.

It seems that there are two distinct issues with building buffs that are being reported. One is "Buffs not remaining for the correct length of time" or "ending early".
The other is "buffs not sticking" - ie disappearing as soon as placed.
I'm going to try to keep the two seperate, with the first in this thread, and the second here (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/33245-Buffs-not-Sticking)
Hi Houri, while this thread began with:
I have noticed on several occasions that my buffs either self placing or for friends are running out well before time. I gather this is also happening for at least one other in my guild.
I have only noticed it on Feasts so far and will try and obtain a screen shot.
some way in this happened:
I know i named this thread 'buffs' but until now these have only been production ones and has been going on for a very long time.
There is now a new bug - The Island buffs not running to full term and altering upon visiting and revisiting other islands. This is very different and I cannot understand the need to merge the two threads.
Threads are merged because (in spite of the different type of buffs reported) the issue is the same: buffs are not remaining for the duration they are supposed to remain.
But likely to be two different bugs I would have thought. But maybe I know nowt :D
Zone buff issues specifically have been addressed in two change logs here (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/33187-Change-Log-17-05-2016)and here (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/33450-Change-Log-19-07-2016?p=316945&viewfull=1#post316945) but that doesn't cover the 'regular' buffs.
The point of my post, that seems a little lost now it's moved to this already tangled thread, is that the fixed zone buffs are not the same as the still hinky regular buffs (as Mortallicus pointed out) and it would be nice to know that's clear on all fronts rather than tech thinking, 'We got it! :D'
I had the same problem yesterday:
Rabbit Lucky Charm applied by friend on Maho mill: the game showed the buff properly applied and I started the building. When I checked at night the mill was running unbuffed, Charm had disappeared :(

I started this thread on the 15th May 2015.
I was reporting regular buffs. At that time though it appeared mainly for irmas or feasts probably because i was using those more.
In time i admit I gave up moaning about it as only a few seemed to have a problem and I sort of learned to live with it. But its steadily got worse or maybe has always covered all buffs but i did not realise it.
I hate to think of how much I have lost in resources it would be huge by now. When I visit friends i buff and stay till every buff placed glows then stay a few more moments to make sure I have done my best. More and more people in my guild are complaining about the same thing.
A guild member carpet buffed me with steaks the other day and I noticed that many did not last more than 6 hours at the absolute most. A few did go the distance.
This really needs to be addressed now.

If you feel like you had some buffs that didn't last for as long as they should, you can raise a ticket with support to get it addressed. Make sure to keep a note of which buffs they were, and when they were applied - this will help get to a resolution as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I do not 'feel' like it , I know for sure and honestly cant quite get my head round your answer. Counting to 16,000,003 as my mum taught me.

i can confirm this issue is back, some of steaks not last long.
I agree with Mortallicus, before posting in the thread I thought it was my error for some time. Only when I was sure did I post, it is happening, even though there does not seem a `reproduce able' format to it. Its a game, I don't really want to be writing down exact numbers of buffs in store prior to buffing for weeks on end only for it to happen on the day I didn't. Equally I don't intend to revisit friends islands to check on if all buffs remain 24hrs later or to look for `failed' or short timed out buffs. I am, and am sure others are too, doing our best to get some data for the devs to solve the issue, as we will all benefit. but it is happening BB_Saqui, and a ticket to support is not the answer, a less dismissive approach from the devs `IS', ( some of us have been through that, and are pleasantly surprised at the new `era', no slipping back, please )
It is very old and well known bug but BB is doing nothing or very few with it. Same as older one called flickering whisper tab. I suppose that there is no money in these bugs (gems etc). Thats why BB is just waiting till these ugly and "hard to fix"/"hard to reproduce" bugs expel or/and will be accepted as feature...
I was reporting this particular bug which was mentioned by mort one year ago or something like that... and nothing happened it seems.

again, and again, and again, this issue not solved, I just got the same issue directly in front of my eyes, a friend applied Barazek buff on my provision, and after I saw the buff applied, 2 seconds game lagged and buff was gone.

To me that issue happened yesterday with recruitment guide..my friend applied it to me and after 2h it ended. I try to refresh if it would have come back and lost all proof that my friend applied it to me.... and friend refreshed too but for different reasons. I hope devs fix this soon.

It becomes really annoying I lost barrazek yesterday after 1 hour of buff, and today at morning I found the drill was expired on my barracks, it supposed to have 2 hours more from now !! PLEASE give this most priority now ! seems the 14 hours maintenance was useless at all, I don't see much bugs fixed, and the game still lags and hangs a lot too.
I had sdadium snacks placed on common pimpkin fields this morning.. some 5 hours later one just stopped as I was checking deposits. screen shots below of timings of it stopping and the news tab in case something happening near or at the same time could have triggered it...

Before I go to bed at night, I buff my island with Aunt Irma's Feasts - 24 hour duration. When I log in next morning, most of the buffs have run out, though a few still have an hour or so to run.

I have someone that buffs my whole island but for some reason some of the buffs have vanished. This has happened twice now, the first time I thought it was a mistake but it has happened again.
