View Full Version : PvP- I don't want it!

It seems that PvP is here to stay, which I find disappointing. I know some players enjoy it but equally, many of us do not.

I have no interest whatsoever in PvP. I started playing TSO partly because there was no sign of it. I was unhappy about the idea of it coming to TSO as I felt it would change the atmosphere of the game. The initial bugs, the terribly high cost, the poor loots all confirmed my thinking that PvP was not for me. I know I'm far from the only player to think this. Just look at chat every time a PvP related update occurs proves that.

I also don't like the focus that BB have lately been putting on PvP. The updates, the rankings, making it almost compulsory to get the top items in the last event. We were told it would be optional but it's starting to feel it's compulsory in order to progress in the game. Please, BB, don't make this happen!

My suggestion is an ability to switch all things PvP off- maybe an option in the Globe symbol at the bottom. This would remove EVERYTHING to do with PvP, including achievments, quests, build options- all of it. Except the Globe icon where it would be possible to switch it all back on again for those who have a change of heart.

1. "The initial bugs": Only a very few left.
2. "The terribly high cost": Try reading this - argument shot to pieces here: http://forum.thesettlersonline.net/threads/21871-PvP...some-math
Conclusion from above thread is - you break even after 1.4 to 2.1 days owning the island. (A lot sooner, when you become more experienced.)
3. "The poor loots": That goes for normal adventures too.

Why make another one of these threads? How hard can it be to ignore, what you do not want to play?

Expedition islands is the best feature added, since I began playing. ;)

Which in reply to ksinori is why it is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore for those of us who do not want it and want more original core content ;)

I'm still new to the game and haven't tried any pvp yet as guildies told me bad things about it. So i think I'm still neutral on pvp and will decide later on. But, somehow I dont like the new ranking button, it's just useless button to link us to a new page. Can BB just put the link button to ranking inside the globe button?

While I understand that it may seem at this time like the game is introducing PvP content only, more features focusing on other game functions are in development.

We should reveal more information on this during the upcoming weeks.

Thanks Ravel, I do hope pvp/achievements will be included in future events too? its nice to have some diversity to them...

i think the point is we are not saying we don't want pvp, we know some ppl enjoy it, just stop forcing it on us. the new "link to 10 random players" button next to the star menu is just ridiculous and free game or not bb have no excuse for such poor design!

I would like to suggest a user-setting to disable all PvP-functionality ... (including new pvp-ranking button!)
this way the players that like it, can still go for it...
but the players that don't like it, aren't bothered by it anymore!

Urd123

Have suggested something like that too - so count me in :)

An other idea, is to remove it and make a completely different game for it :)

Oh yes, please build in an "I don't want it" function to remove the pvp from that do not want it and also the idiot removed waggling button also - not interested in pvp and not interested in seeing a ranking list either!

Please do not swear on the forums, even self filtered

Thankyou, Ravel, for your reply. I'm looking forward to the new, non-PvP content enormously. I have played TSO for some time now and enjoy my time here. But I still don't want any part of PvP!

1. "The initial bugs": Only a very few left.
yes, that's why I said initial bugs. Though there were some notable issues with the last maint and it's PvP related content, so it is still true now.

It might be true that the costs of playing the PvP are not as bad as some players say. I haven't done the maths and I have no intention of doing so. But enough players have stated that it is costly and breaking even after a couple of days is not my idea of fun. But that's kind of my point- some players like PvP and some don't. For those that do, good luck to you, but I'm just not interested and it feels like it's being waved under my nose every time I log in. There's now TWO icons along the bottom dedicated to it, extra panel on the avatar icon, quests, buildings, gens......and so on.

There's no right way to play and that's part of TSO's attraction. Everyone can play in a way that suits them. But PvP is not for me- as I said, I don't want it. I'm not having a moan for the sake of it but pointing out what I believe is an issue and offering a solution in it's stead- a disable PvP button. And it seems I'm not the only player to not want any part of it.

if BB are unable to allow the optional removal of pvp info, please can they at least consider moving the rankings button to either the far left or far right on the menu?

I accidentally click it dozens of times day (I mean, how many times a day would a pvp player want to check the rankings anyway? Does it even warrant a button on that menu?)

A big fat -1 to the bright spark who decided it should be placed where the trade button was, likely THE most used button in the game!

If I wore tinfoil hats I would say that it is exactly why it was placed there.

I'll be careful not to turn up at the same event as you TGF, having the same hat is just not cool ;) I wonder how the data is being portrayed - Look how popular our leader board development is, clearly the majority of players love our PV? by the number of hits the page gets.
Or
I think we put the button in the wrong place, there appears to be a lot of accidental clicking by players ( Note for future development - Put buy gems now button next to star ) :)

I agree. It's not just an 'option' - it's being forced down our throats. More icons in our face - the thinking that if you see that you are NOT achieving in something you will be inclined to do it just to remove the feeling of under-achieving. What? I don't have a water tower? I must have one. What? It's only level 1, I must have level 2. What? I'm not on the top 10....

Have you noticed the "speed up specialist" with gems option doesn't have a confirm?
Yup - should have moved the buy-gems options there.

I feel very cynical today _ I wonder why?

+1 to original thread.

Re the tantalising new things will be announced over coming weeks I hope it isn't merely more buildings able to go to level 6, or an equivalent ranking system for main game adventures. Let's have some genuine new thoughts from the developers. Players have in the past suggested, for instance, new adventures on which the enemy in camps change every time so players have to work out their own attacks etc., new epic items to make use of beans from fairy tale adventures, the list is enormous. Just please, please, please, not more pvp.

Rhylian
27.06.15, 19:50
@lordloocan yep I agree with you. The list of things we want is HUUUUGGGGEEEE. restructure of some (mostly coops) adventure loots, a parking spot especially for generals (for extra space on your main island), new adventures, Skill trees for generals, preferably an event in the summer in the years where there is no Olympic or Football event, new guild quests, new epic items both for beans and stalks, unnerfing the terrible droprate of Epic buildings (which especially affects a 1500 gems adventure which is now worthless -_-) new guildshop (tbh the coming one I already find 6 different ways of meh as pretty much nothing it is really interesting or is stuff we have had before), some free ways to get Demo crews, new small islands with resources like Iron which are now VERY VERY needed (that one I believe has even been on test not sure anymore) ... and that is pretty much only 10% of the requests summed up I think. Non of which include: more PvP. And neither do the other 90% of requests include more PvP tbh

Atleast, it has been worse.. gems charged with no confirmation (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/24428-gems-charged-with-no-confirmation?p=227499&viewfull=1#post227499)

On topic, it would be nice to have such an option suggested in Alsh first post (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/31026-PvP-I-don-t-want-it!?p=281569&viewfull=1#post281569); BUT as BB don't even manage to load (during maintenance) and launch (some days later) those Specialist weeks without making this game less playable (chat server connection lost) (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/31002-Feedback-Change-Log-23-06-2015?p=281688&viewfull=1#post281688), I can't see how an ability to switch all PvP things off would ever happen here.

Seriously, one has nothing to do with the other.
I don't lose chat, no login problems...
And yes , i seriously dislike PvP in this game cos its stupid....
Solution... i don't play it

Seriously, one has nothing to do with the other.
Really? I beg to differ. As most actions (on both server- and clientside) generate a system message in chat, a "hidden" function may easilly mess up chat if not "hidden" well.
Another example of "one do has something to do with the other"..

CHANGES & IMPROVEMENTS
The "New Quest" and "Quest Completed" indicator is not obliterating the chat window any more

Point is, don't expect BB to successfully manage to hide unwanted content.

I don't lose chat, no login problems...
Me either, as those problems were between load and launch.

To MODs..
Perhaps merge this thread with.. Posibility to disable PVP after logging in.. (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/30947-Posibility-to-disable-PVP-after-logging-in..)

The PvP thing isn't really intergrated into the game is it..? Why do you need a completely different set of troops with different weapons..? It pangs of a bad add-on..! At level 50 I produce more of just about everything than I can use, so what is the incentive to do PvP..?

Wholeheartedly agree, after spending years in games (no names mentioned) where you were almost forced to enter the realms of PvP to gain better rewards, and even bonuses from creators, I think that will be detrimental to TSO as a whole.
Please give an opt out button, or opt in for those who like that side of things, but please don't expect us all to.

Would you care to explain how you can opt out of something when you are not in it in the first place. If we was to take out everything which some player did not want then there would be nothing much left in the game, except the log out button.

Many would love to remove the generals from their star menus and maps, they would love to remove the adventure and achievement quests, but you can't. I think that's the point.

Yes, you don't have to "do" anything with PvP if you don't want, but you can't get it completely out of your face either. If you made the mistake of building a little bit to at least find out what it was all about (which I think just about everyone did) then now the noise won't go away.

It would be interesting to know what sort of percentage of those who play the game actually do pvp on a regular basis. Come on BB got an stats on that?

Urd123
26.07.15, 21:43
yes you are right :).
When you are around level 26, you have not cleared your island from bandits yet. And you dont know the game well enough to not build the combat armory and barracks. You just do the quests. But that more or less kills the game for you. It consumes a huge lot of building materials and all your iron. End result is that you hate it even more than you would have done- if the quests waited - say 20 levels.
It annoyes you to look at the 3 marshall you used a lot of your too few coins to get, not really knowing what they were for. Have used the tutorial expeditions to get the marshalls off my island and back in the star, but I would love to be able to dismiss them.

MarkG
27.07.15, 12:56
well i was planning to do 5-6 expeditions per week, but as the last one i did decided to give me a locked zone just before i was gonna attack the big boss castle on the 19th July, and since then i've been unable to play regular adventures due to the colony still being active in background, hopefully it will be fixed with maintenance 2nite, and also i will get back my 6 pvp generals. its very doubtful i will be touching expeditions again after this.

suggestion to BB, get stuff already in game fixed before adding more features/bugs, cant wait to see what new errors arrive with the new ali baba and the million bugs adventures, and the new scenarios
