View Full Version : That GamesCom time of year...

So, now that GamesCom has rolled round again, I am reminded of Q&A sessions from last year's Convention that were reported on the German website, Seidler-Vision:

Session One (http://siedler-vision.de/2014/08/die-siedler-online-question-answer-am-15-08-2014-gc-2014/)
Session Two (http://siedler-vision.de/2014/08/die-siedler-online-question-answer-am-16-08-2014-gc-2014/)

Now I am relying heavily on Google translate because my German is atrocious, but it seems that these articles reported that:

The issue of too many adventures in Guild Quests would be considered and possibly altered.
The chances of finding platters, sandwiches and baskets in artefact searches would be reduced in order to include new buffs.
The expensive prices of items in the guild market would be reduced.
The science tree for Generals was on hold pending introduction of the new combat system.
The Guild Bank is on the waiting list due to technical issues but it should be available in the medium to long term.

So, one year on, I guess it would be nice if we could get an update on when/if we can expect to see these actually happening?

I'd bet those have been forgotten or scrapped like most older dev diarys which some of us were waiting for and hoping to see.

Was the loot nerf or daily quest rework mentioned?

There are so many ways they can improve the game, many things in place they can add to (new quest chains, achievements etc.)

Be nicer if BB/Ubi were to put a full translation of all the Q and A sessions on the forum for the many, many, thousands who are unable to attend for simple geographic reasons......We cannot attend but would like the information too, not just the few who got to gamescom

Neither of those were mentioned, as far as I can see.

Indeed, one would have thought it was in their best interests to keep potential customers informed like that...

However, I will say that there are many things mentioned in these sessions that have since made it to the live version, such as barracks changes, rock removal, scenarios and the button to unload all units from a general. The list in my original post is of stuff they claimed was in the pipeline (or at least to be seriously considered) about which we haven't heard anything further since, at least as far as I am aware.

An old thread about last GamesCom..

Here's a summary of the more important stuff I gleened from it.
(there's more, stuff that seemed less important, or stuff i didn't quite understand lol)

* The new combat system includes first PVP features. (new islands? new types of troops?)

* barracks: train 25. technical issues prevents current change, but it's being changed with the new system

* tested features on hold due to technical problems, but they will work on them in the future:
rock demo
guild bank

*things they can't change because it would result in too much lag or there are technical problems
destroy trees,
news menu,
bookbinder que,
star menu stacking,
stacking buffs on a building
stopping a geo/explorer after search has started
mobile version of the game would require a total rewrite

*things on their list of: to be improved
adventure loot straight to mayor house
high number of advs required for guild quests
ability to open trade window and warehouse side by side
adding new buffs to artifact search, which will reduce finding fish/sammie buffs
adding numbers box to trading
changing guild coin market more often, adjusting prices
changing quests so they dont require the small buildings when we have bigger ones (brewery vs friary) (http://forum.thesettlersonline.net/threads/20903-Summary-of-GamesCom-Info?p=243400&viewfull=1#post243400)

Skill tree for general will be very bad. players will support that idea, because will be some good things, but they will also later complain how they can't play adventures without guide.
what you think how many guide maker will again make new guides?

same player who first support skill tree for general, will first leave game

I can't say I disagree with that logic, but that's really the subject of a different debate. I am am merely pointing out that things were promised, over a year ago now, that have yet to come to pass and I don't think it's unreasonable to request an update on them and if/how they figure into the big plans afoot on the test server right now.

Specifically in regards to the science tree for Generals, I know some folks have been building up a hoard of books ready for them, based in part upon the Q&A from last year's Gamescom. Personally, I am in a situation where I shall have all my Explorers and Geologists fully skilled relatively soon and am starting to wonder whether the General and Island science trees are actually ever going to arrive.

I find this a bit funny.. Guide makers complaining about changes.. Let's see..

Mr "never-update-any-of-his-guides" Evil_J did quit making guides because tailor advs got revamped last autumn.
Mr "quick-maker-slow-updater-of-one-version-fit-just-some" corona88 keeps warning about less versions of guides being made.

What about Polymer and Tage?
They DO make and update multiple versions of guides.. Where are they complaining?

making all exist guide worthless is a bad thing. not important who make that guides. players use wiki guide and from other site. players learn playing using that guides. they will need to find new guide, they will must be careful about books.

i apologise to you, because i think on every part of game and how that can reflect on game. at least i give my opinion what can happen
i don't see your opinion about this.
how general skill tree will reflect on game and what can happen?

this is not your or my game. not important what is good for me or you. only important is what is good for game

Won't happen as there will still be non-skilled generals.

I prefer to (try) adapt than generally complain about changes.
I'd rather see a game based on diversity than based on "one ultimate way to go", so I'd like to see a general skill tree that makes sense instead of just nonsense.

everyone main general(vet, mma, major or any other generals) will have books

i complain only about some changes. changes which can bad reflect on game (my opinion)
player complain about third army, i support bb with that idea. player complain about 1 billion xp for lvl 75 i support BB etc.
sometime i support bb sometime not.

i not support general skill tree because players don't play adventures without guide, with general skill tree will be problems with guides.
for me that is not problem i will able to play adventures with skill tree. i will be able to use some of benefit from general skill tree, but generally i think that will be bad for game

I respect all those that take the time to crunch the numbers and give us guides, and long may that continue. I find general placing for blocks etc very useful as with a general troop configuration against certain camps However I do run my own tweaks and I am sure others do to, the general skill tree would be similar to this and be just a personal preference to the more general guides. If someone discovers a really good combination I'm pretty sure it would be shared to the community in one form or another but I think there will always be a need for a general `guide' and guide writers prepared to share, there might just be more caveats attached.
Given the new content presently being tested, there is great scope, and some would argue, need for the general skill tree once you realise where in the new levels the new troops and epic raids become available and the xp needed to get there. A general skill tree would not necessarily make it quicker to get the levels but it might take the `grind' away that is already being expressed and keep it fun, it might also breath new life into some of the less popular adventures we currently have, so well worth some consideration from the BB team, IMO.
