View Full Version : Friend/Guild avatar list

Are there any plans to add any more filters to the friends list?

One that I believe might be useful, is a filter to show friends that are online and hide those that are offline.
We already have the "green light" on those friends that are online, but that doesn't show on guild members.

It can take a little while to scroll through a long friends list plus 100 guild members just to find the one friend you want to visit that is online.
Having the choice to hide the offline friends would be a help.

i would prefer in the panel along the bottom, if my friends were shown in order of who is online first.
It is more useful to see who is logged in first, if you need to chat or send invites.
currently our guild is spread across several pages but usually there is not more than 9 of us logged on at once
it would be more sensible to see who is on line than who is the highest level.:o

i am not sure how it would add or subtract from performance? The little green dot already demands as much from the servers as it will ever do.
I would have thought it would be a cut and paste of a command so that the display priority changed in a minor way?
To be able to see who of your guild or your friends is active would be useful on lots of ways i would have thought

it is never a cut and paste easy peasy job

In this case you want a custom sort function (with multiple options) implemented where they only have a default 1 sort hardcoded in the software. So they need to tinker with that to refer to the sort preference and then sort out that all of that will work without bugging any display etc

Now if you meant, change the sort option to a different one that is hard coded, then your preference is not necesarily other peoples preference who will argue they prefer sorting on level and others alphabetical which opens a whole new can of worms

As to first option- sort options are nice, new content is nicer which kinda gives my priority where it should be on the list of things to do in the future- somewhere far far away

more [censored] from someone who wants to pretend they have a brain..what i meant if your pathetic little brain can grasp this is that it is absolutely pointless having silly little pictures along the bottom of the screen unless they serve some useful function.the only useful function they could serve is to let us know who is available and logged in/on.who gives a damn what your level is if you only log on once a month?
i look forward to positive comments from people who are capable of rational thought or even positive feedback which of course would exclude Nancy boy and malduck

Being interested in UI design, here are my suggestions of improvement:

Front web page

The right column with "add friends" syndication and game advertisement are not aligned. It looks a bit haphazard.
The posts in the news feed are not properly differentiated from each other. It makes them float into each other which makes readability harder. Some kind of horizontal shader or thicker ruler would be a great improvement. My suggestion is to let the beige background fade out into transparency between each post, so that the texture behind it pops out.
The minimize post button disappears when put on top of the teaser image. The teaser images are stealing attention from the post itself.
There are too many horizontal lines inside a post. Having a horizontal line below the title of the post is unnecessary.
The amount of posts are way to many. Use the archive more or at least auto hide posts that are older then a week. The oldest post is about new year and it's soon summer!
Consider replacing the rectangular teaser to the right with a square icon to the left. It would be less intrusive and guide the eye rather then confuse and cover the minimize button.
Profile editing is a mess! Way too many headers, segments, icons, buttons and horizontal rulers. It would be much better if I could just type in my current password, edit whatever and press save. That would be 1 segment, rather then 3. Consolidate them to make it easier.
The fact that the forum profile settings is different and contains a link to another page is not apparent. Consider adding an icon with a arrow or something to mark it better. But only if you first remove some horizontal lines and other features. (EDIT: actually there is an arrow, but it blends too much into the +/- that show/hides the segment. Make it pop out more).
In the invite friends frame on the right side: the most important feature here is the Invite friend part, not the Click here. Thus, the Invite friend text should be larger.
The shop icon and segment is very beautiful.
Consider putting the forum posts into its own box. Right now it blends into the shop box.
Consider gathering all social features into the same area (the social links to the upper left and the join facebook, as well as the invite friends).
Why do you have a advertisment about a game called Settlers online, on the Settlers online webpage?
The right hand column is so long it covers the footer.

Ingame improvements

Make it possible to customize one or two slots in the resource bar. I like keeping track of fishes to optimize my buffing. Now I have to click the economics tab every time.
All the archive posts are editable. If I start typing the text will change. I think they should be locked.
When I visit a friends town, I would like to have a quickbutton for returning home. With many friends it can be hard to find oneself in the horizontal list. EDIT: found it, below the arrows in the friends bar. Perhaps it should be possible to do this by clicking the portrait?
Sometimes the quests can not be completed. First I thought this was due to a bug, which was solved by completing other quests so that the list was refreshed. Now it seems like it's due to my level not being high enough. This is not written anywhere in the interface however, the sub-quest simply does not appear. I think it should appear but be grayed out - with a tooltip that says my level is too low.

Other
The dirt pathches are rendered above the road, which I guess is because the terrain objects like trees should cover them and they are in the same layer. Perhaps you could make the dirt patches transparent?

personally i reached the point of having 200+ friends, and not taking random friend requests! it just happens over time for active people

i would like to sugest a few new functionalities for the friendlist.

-be able to sort friends by online/offline status

-be able to sort friendlist alfabetically or by lvl

-create friend groups

(this options are available in alot of mmo's out there, and i dont mean lazy fb games x)

HI,

Can you change this list on way that I can see online friends together... not like now (from moment to moment) online... 2 offline, then 2 online... 5 offline...

So can you make that we sort online contact from beginning of list?

best...

Magnusthered

I hear you!

In my guild we are 88-96 people then add the friends outside guild meaning I have to scroll through 10-11 windows of people since you can only see 9 people at the time (this is fine). But it would be nice to be able to toggle between offline/online players.

Maybe also a search options field, so you can search on a friend name?

Kind regards,
Magnus

I agree to an "all/online only" toggle for the friends list. Also, while a search facility there could be useful, (somebody mails you "Hi, can you buff 1 of my bldgs plz?" ~ "Actually, no, I can't. I can't find you in the 500+ faces on my list", something as simple as a toggle "sort by level / sort by name" would do.

While I heartily agree that searching you friends list is difficult, in the case above the correct answer would be:
"Only if you whisper me first, since I can then use your nick to visit you island."

I've done that, and the classic "what level are you?" aswell.

There's a competent friend searcher when inviting someone to an adventure, could that be duplicated? (Without breaking 2 other things...)

Blackout85
20.08.13, 07:51
You don't need to ask what level they are to find them in the list, simply click their name in chat and click visit as Fexno says.

Hairy
20.08.13, 11:43
That's not immediately possible when you just get a mail from someone. You have to ask them to whisper in order to get a link to them.

Why not implement a /v playername to visit people?

Hairy
18.09.13, 20:58
Every time the friends list resets to the start, (which is often,) I have to click the '>>' next button 22 times to see if the guy I'm sharing an adventure with is back online. :(

Hi all :)

I think we should have a custom friends list so they can not only be ordered on their level as it now is. Just an easy drag and drop feature! We could also have different lists like guild friends, real life friends, same language speaking friends, very generous friends :p , etc.

Then this game will so much better :D

Have a nice settling day!

I see where you're coming from given the lag issues we've been experiencing for a long time, but this really shouldn't be an end-user concern. If the servers can't cope it's up to BB/Ubisoft to upgrade them. We're out of beta, the servers should be adequate.

I was thinking, and this is getting more and more frustrating:

Is is possible to get a new overview for the friends/guild icon list?

If I am looking for a specific friend or guild member I have to skip several and look closely because the list is not in alphabetical order
but in Level (friends) or guild rank en level (guild) which make finding a member fast very difficult.

Thinking about this I thought it would be nice to be able to have:

showing only online friends.
be able to alphabetical order this list (to be able to find members faster) it is ordered on level (in guild on Rank/level.)
make a best friend list
Manual refresh button like in TO so it doesn't hijack focus (removes cursor) from chat and mail. (thank you SmurfAsH :) )

I have tons of "friends" not playing regular, or are not "Best" friends I have good contact with.
Some new friends are low level so always at the far right, a pain to check if they are online.
Most friends are now level 50 so they take up first 2/3 'pages' before the lower levels are shown (being level 50 does not imply you are a 'best friend').

Just my two cents :)

Hi BB,
Let's have a list of favorite friends.
It is very annoying to look around the friends list to find a particular friend, it can be isolated in a separate list :)

SeaBee1964
25.12.14, 20:35
Having been on here for a couple of years I have accumulated a lot of "friends", mainly by doing and giving out loot spots.
Most of those on my friend list I may have only interacted with once or twice but there are a few I regularly talk to or visit to buff and it can be a pain scrolling through 13 pages of "Friends" looking for the one player I actually want.

By having a "Favourites" list I can add those special few players to it and it would be much easier to find them.

No to favourites. Just remove the requirement for friends to send lootspots. Friends should be people you want to talk to, not just a huge list of anyone you've ever swapped a lootspot or traded buffs with

Xibor
20.01.15, 23:02
I agree that better management of the friends list is needed - I think what Hazgod says makes the most sense - be able to trade directly with anyone, not just people on your Friends list.

Dorotheus
20.01.15, 23:17
The not allowing for direct trade with anyone is to protect new players, besides Hazgod meant sending adventure invites direct. Not direct trade which is something different. Something alone the lines of a invite option being added when clicking on a players name. It would require a confirmation so as to prevent accidental invites being made.

Can we have a way of sorting this list into something meaningful? Currently it's kindasorta in descending level order - but it's not:

http://s29.postimg.org/xsl5d58qv/guildlist.png

Can we have it in one of the following - better yet, give us the choice!

Alphabetic ascending (and please, make it an alpha sort not ASCII, so anything beginning wit A is at the beginning, regardless of case!)
Descending level order (alpha subsort would be good)
Online then offline (alpha subsort would be good here too)

Done that too. Just getting a bit tricky when it comes to semi-(in)-active players - where to draw the line..
ATM I'm promoting GQ active members during the 2 first days of a GQ and then demoting the rest during the 3rd day - that makes it fast & easy for everyone to see where help is needed and for me to administrate a reward system to this. As it's been working well, I think we'll continue doing this way.

The concept of friends is not well implemented.

When I want to find an actual friend I have to wade through more than 100 "friends" to find them.

What are currently termed "Friends" in game should be renamed "Allies"

A new Friends list could be added for actual friends.

In the avatar menu in the game we can choose All, friends, or guild and see whether they are online or not, sorted by level, then name, or in the case of guild, rank then level then name. I see there is enough space in the GUI for another category.

I would like to mark certain friends or guildies as favourite because I some times want to do something next time two or three specific players are online at the same time. With a favourite icon I could just mark those few as favourite and I would see them all on the same page and easily see who of them are online at any given time. As it is now, I usually need to find those two players separately because they are rarely sorted on the same page in guild, friend or all category.

I think this favourite feature should be completely independent one-way lists, so that I can have one list, without influencing the lists belonging to those other players.

Question: is the "all" section even needed? Why not have "guild" / "friends" / "new category" instead? Guild and friends are already overlapping to some extend, "all" is just putting all in one pot, which makes no sense because why would someone search through a huge "all" list anyways?

AmySafeunderdark
02.03.16, 11:38
I don't think we need extra tabs just a way it is displayed.

Isn't there a way to change how your friends are displayed?

Now it is always sorted on level..
why not make the player choose how the list is sorted and displayed?

I'm thinking about options like:

* online - online active users are listed first
* favorites - make you own favorite list and put them first
* name - list them in alphabetical order
* level - we have that one already and some may find it useful ..

It would be much easier to find a friend or member that is active or favorite without having to scroll through a list of members.

Oh and while we talking about the Friendslist, is it possible to make it possible to manually refresh the list? or at least keep your focus?
It's very annoying when you have finally found the one you are looking for to disappear because the list is refreshed and to find yourself at the start of the list
so you have to start your search again....

My 2 cents

Hugonian
26.03.16, 07:45
Add an online button to where the 'All', 'Friends' and 'Guild' buttons are so you can see who is online rather than having to scroll through a large list. I just sometimes want to see who is online without having to go through one of three lists to do it.

Hello fellow settlers.
I have been let's say struggling with Friends list menu for some time now and since we got improved star menu already I think it's only fair to get a new friends list menu with search ASAP...here's my suggestion:

6825
Alternative: http://prnt.sc/cejkv0

On the left side:
Current Add friend & Invite via e-mail buttons can be in one row which can allow to use the second row as search.

On the right side:
The last unused "button" under Guild could serve as three other options:
- Favorites (your most used contacts)
- Adventure contacts for you adventure - invitees
- Adventure contacts where you are invited

Maybe the last two (adventure related) are not that needed and maybe there will be some better suggestion (like A-Z sorting without lvl) if more people like this idea, but it's a start.
Have fun.

Why not get rid of the avatars at the bottom totally and have a drop down menu similar to this from a different game:
