Im getting extended periods of game freeze too, tho I believe in my case its a Shockwave issue rather than the game itself

After being on for a while my whole screen locks up when going to adv maps etc. I now logoff every 90mins or so and that seems to help.

Tried to up the limit for storage in adobe's settings? It made the game run much more smoothly for me. =)
To do so, just right click the game window and click settings. Click the folder icon and move the slider up to 'unlimited'.

I've been having freeze issues too, never had them before so I'm surprised that the current settings aren't good enough, but I'll try your suggestion - see what happens.

Those settings do nothing but set how much are allowed to be saved on your computer til next time you startup tso (hence "storage") - eg global-chat settings et c used to be saved there, but atm seems to be saved on server-side (or not at all) since advanced options were added.
You'll find the work memory of Flash if you check Processes in Task Manager - that'll (for sure) be the most CPU-using one in the list and you'll see it's been running through the browser (and not as standalone).

Indeed, this problem...
Chat Resets and Changing Zones (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/31184-Chat-Resets-and-Changing-Zones).
...seems to have gotten worse with the introduction of the XXL package. I don't know about anyone else, but every single time my game freezes (that doesn't lead to a chat crash) it seems to be followed by some sort of report going into the News chat tab so, if I were to place a bet, I would say the added traffic from folks who had (all but) given up coming back to the game is clogging the tubes to the chat server(s) even further... and they cannae handle it Cap'n!

was getting game freezes before update so i dont think thats to blame tbh...its something to do with tso and flashplayer together...maybe they using some dodgy calls to the flashplayer code of something but after 2hrs i have to close down game or stop flash in task manager and its alrightish for another 2hrs...
This could be related to my OS but I disabled the hardware acceleration from flash setting and haven't noticed any freezes after that. It could be that there's some problems with the game, flash and/or GL or any combination of them.
The situation can change tomorrow after the maintenance.
+1
keeps freezing here too, very often and lasts for up to 10 sec, more or less...

I have same issue, actually its random, some ppl says clear cache close browser and so, but for real its random, sometimes happens even a few minutes like 10 times another times just once, later like not happening, the freezes happens so randomly and I have no clear idea why, but i'm pretty sure now its not about the client, but the game coding or server issue.
Something in game freezes once its fail or delay with connection to server or like non-threaded operation when an event happened.

Same issue and only happens on tso. Page freezes totally and I sometimes get the nice big ! in a circle to tell me flash crashed completely/

Agreed - temporary freezes, usually when an 'event' is trying to occur/notify/etc., and wasn't there before. Confirmed with another player that has never had the problem either. Fortunately, it seems to clear after a few seconds - not such a big problem unless you just happen to be in the middle of a complicated attack...
Freezing issues for me since new levels were introduced.
Chat server keeps resetting. Had same issue before new levels but it's much more frequent now.
Traveling to adventure or back to home island causes temporary lock ups of flash player a number of times till it settles down (loading issues??)
Hope they get this fixed BEFORE introducing new bugs with up coming Halloween event.
Anyone else bothered by this?

Freezing issue here too.
1. It is much worse since XXL, so much so that if it happened before I hardly noticed it or put it down to general lag.
2. It is consistent across different browsers
3. I can almost guarantee it will happen if I do something that sends a fair bit of data back and forth to the server. E.G. cancel a lot of troop builds one after another.
My guess, some kind of load issue with data in/out of the server(s) since XXL. Exacerbated, if not wholly caused by, the increase in player activity due to that upgrade. However I'm no dev, so it could be the way the wind is blowing or the recent moon eclipse...
FWIW I have a reasonably quick computer and a fast fibre internet connection, so I find these to be unlikely causes, particularly since I am not the only person affected.

didnt get it first week after XXL have been getting it this week.
Mine has a guaranteed freeze whenever a bunch of generals arrive back home from an adventure.
The garrisons appear at some percentage built, game freezes and generally stays frozen until suddenly they are all there near fully built, so around 15 seconds or so.
Often leave the game running in a background tab and have to reload a majority of times when I return as I get forced refresh (normally to home page) after some seconds of hanging.
Has anybody who has been suffering these problems had less issues with the sound turned off.
I have sound turned off and this game is getting to the stage where unplayable.
Changing sectors takes even longer than it used to (too long) and I get a big freeze every couple of minutes and a shut Internet Explorer/Firefox down (restart) every hour or so as well.
Sound is always off for me, I have zero intention of turning it on to see if that makes matters even worse ;)
remove the expamsion to a game for it self

wow what have they done in maintenance? My game now freezes every couple of seconds instead of every couple of minutes, also generals are taking a long time to load and unload, plus there is now lag on generals leaving the garrisons.
So not a happy bunny here :(
I have had problems with game freezing up for 10- 20 sec too- and the flash needing to restart happens more often. But it has happened since the extension part was added.
Maintenance has not fixed this on Northisle either.
Screen freezes at least 3 times / hour

It has something to do with Flash.
I am bridging "wait time" with a Flash-based card game and when the freezes occur, both games freeze.
Debugging info:
The freezes do NOT occur when I only leave the card game running.
The freezes occur in TSO when only that game runs.
The freezes occur to BOTH games when they both run.
Hypothesis: It has something to do with TSO freezing up the Flash player.

seems to be getting worse with every maint..
It seems that way to me too topgearfan
And it's back again.....
connection issue....
hammer guy.....
lost chat server.....
please wait......
(sometimes completely pushed out back to main screen).....
connection issue....
hammer guy.....
*groan*
So I am now on freezing 'Settlers is not responding' every two minutes or so.
Also, the freeze after I leave an adventure screen and return to home island is very annoying. Not to mention the time taken from game zone to home island is increasing and now ridiculously long.
This is getting too fannoying... It needs to be fixed before Halloween...

Indeed! When support told me that the developers were already working on this issue, I didn't realise that meant they were working on making it worse! ;)
the game freezing is getting beyond a joke come on BB fix your game frustrated players tend not to open a wallet that often. you used to be on the ball with game issues and I know it isn't my laptop or connection speed

when the game freezes i hear the processor fan speed up.
at the start of the year game took 300mb of memory even after being open for a whole day.
yesterday after about 4 hours the memory usage was 1500mb.
processor use has also gone from about 10% to 50% at the time of game freeze.
surely this big an increase is not normal?
I think there;s issues with the latest flash player. this may be the cause of all these problems
and for all those about to reply "i use chrome" etc, I think they have even bigger probz.

Tends to sit around the 44-56% CPU and 500-900 meg of private memory here (which is ridiculously high).
I close and re-open browser roughly every 4 hours though, to let things settle.

Adobe Flash is notorious in proff. IT communities for it's many security issues, and also for it's frequent performance issues (and this goes for both response times peaking, locally and to the server in Flash based online applications, and in terms of power consumption). It was the main reason why Apple refused to support Flash content on their iPhones and iPads => battery drained in no time).
So for the long term perspective, I fully support the suggestion to BB in other threads here on this forum, that TSO makes a transition to HTML5, hopefully in a not too distant future. Many other browser based MMO games have already made that transition, and I suggest BB to take this under serious consideration, because these problems with Flash can only be remedied to a limited extend. The Flash technology needs a serious overhaul, and that effort is not within BB's control.
keeps freezing here too mostly when visiting others and returning home and visiting advs and also going back than just freezes for 30 sec to sometimes 2-3 mins...

Thank you for this tip - it worked for me, and if I have to do it every time i open the game, so be it. Better than dealing with the never ending freezing.

I use Chrome and since the latest update to version 46.2490.71m, which is beyond my power to reject it, my mouse pointer suffers a considerable amount of lag (it appears like moving on ice or being dragged around on a very long leash lol). I'm absolutely sure it is due to the Chrome update as i was there when it took place. Game is nearly impossible to play, finding collectibles - out of the question... and the event and pumpkins to find on our isles are at our very doorstep.
Should I get a new browser now and reject Chrome just because of problems with TSO ?
Need help if anyone knows how to fix or eventually bypass the issue...

Since links aren't allowed, can someone copy the relevant part? Or is that forbidden too?

I won't post external links again, but do a google search for "Adobe Flash Player", and top link should be what you're looking for, if you're using any other browser than Chrome. The Chrome browser has it's own substitute/equivalent for a Flash player, which Google keeps updated automatically.
Remember to make updates like these a regular routine, since Adobe makes updates to Flash every now and again (typically when a white hat hacker or IT security analysis company have spotted a new security hole in the Flash software ..... and that happens OFTEN!!!).

I can confirm there's mouse-over tooltip lag ATM when using Chrome, while almost none when using IE or FireFox.
ATM..
I'm using Chrome when I'm not only playing TSO, but lurking around here in forum - Chrome seems to still be the most stable of those 3 browsers I'm using.
I use IE when I'm just doing some few stuff for my own island - otherwise it'll soon be too freezy.
FireFox when I'm looking for colls and are buffing mates' productions.
Also having Task Manager opened to keep track of CPU and memory usage.

Any update on this the lag in Chrome especially is driving me nuts plus the game locking up after an hour or so prime time, maybe 2-3 hours in the night ?
im using chrome because IE is not alowed to logon chrome s***s sorry but it does.the button on startup page cant be pushed
Personally Chrome is the one that works best.
IE is ok and firefox is reallly really slow.
Interesting that different persons have different experiences.

Idd.. perhaps proxy-servers are messing some..
Also interesting how things may change after a simple maintenance - BB tweaking their server settings..
Still, worst time is allways morning and evening - european prime time.

I have confirmed this with a few guild members and noticed it happened on the test server as well.
You will be trying to place something on the map and the map will freeze. You can still access your star menu, other buttons and talk but the map freezes completely. Has only occurred since patch day yesterday.

had this too - I put it down to more logging on for the additional content today, though.
Whilst I and others have experienced extra lag lately - the freezing today is a different occurrance, and as I say above is perhaps due to the new stuff
