View Full Version : Random based event thingy

I've posted this elsewhere but will post it here too as it sort of overlaps a couple of topics.

There's been a lot of debate over the randomness of the pumpkin drops this Halloween but:

I actually like the idea of having a pure-luck type thing in an event. It's something different.

Maybe don't call it an achievement, and don't make the prize the event currency, and if all players know it's completely random, then it could be an interesting "will-I-won't-I complete it in time" surprise.

Possibly something like when you open a mystery box, every time you login you have a rolling dice that generates a random number that adds up over the event and your total at the end determines your reward, or if you get it at all?

Personally I don't agree.
Don't see the fun in that some players finishing the random search in less then 2 weeks and some players not finishing the search during the 3 weeks for the event (with the same amount of searches).

If there will be more "search collectable" and anyone want to be unsure if they make it or not? Well don't do every search then.

I think you have to be sure that you will make it if you do 2 searches everyday. That should be with a margin so you can miss out on a few days (after all some events are during holidays where people can't play every day. Can't expect everyone to play during x-mas, new years and easter).
The reason I say 2 and not 3 searches per day is that some people actually have to work and sleep during the 24 hours of 1 day and can't adjust their lifes after this game to be able to do a search every 8th hour.

But that is my opinion and everyone has the right to their own.

I didn't make myself clear in my opening post.

I'm not suggesting any kind of "search" or anything to do with collectibles.
It was an idea about having a totally random number generated once a day during the event that adds up and your final total determines your reward.
The prizes could be tiered so everyone gets something depending on their total.
Maybe involve an event-related animation (an elf opening a present at xmas, a rabbit breaking an egg at easter, for example) that reveals your daily number.
No effort required searching, no resources involved, everyone treated the same regardless of level, server etc.
Purely for fun.

Well that sounds a bit better, but I still think "hard work" should count higher than "dumb luck".
But maybe that's because my bad luck made me miss level 6 on the easter basket (with 3 eggs to little from my explorers) and that I have had some bad luck with the 100 pumpkins as well (even if I hopefully make all 100 before it is over).

NO... edvinp2 is absolutely right

but let us not forget

But that is my opinion and everyone has the right to their own.

I dont need any tombola thing in this game - there is plenty of that in other games. I would much rather have BB fix some of the many annoying things and bugs in thie game.

If you read my post in the Halloween event discussion, you'll see why tying the events to random seeds is a very poor idea.
But if you're suggesting some kind of "lottery", forget it. It would not be allowed by law. The game would have to be completely reclassified to accommodate such a 'feature'.

I have to agree, an achievement shouldn't be luck based. It should require effort, there really is no challenge in rolling dice and getting lucky.

And to keep it in the spirit of the game, add a bug that if your player name starts with an capital letter, you lose out each and every time.

I've seen something akin to what your suggesting in another game but it was for a daily discount from the merchant, maybe that would work in events but don't think it would bring anything to the game tbh. With events coming fairly fast for the next year I'd be happier if they just concentrated on getting each one right and working as intended.

Haha, well that suggestion went down in flames didn't it :D
After how the Halloween event went for some players, maybe it wasn't a good time to suggest this. Or perhaps anything new.
Perhaps you guys are right and all current content should be debugged/improved first.

But I would like to see more fun brought into the game.
