View Full Version : What to do with Beans?

Ever since the release of the "Level Pack XXL", the price of Magic Beans started plummeting.
After an initial rise towards 25 coins (Northisle), it has since declined by 80% - to the point where now Beans are getting traded below 5 coins, occasionally even below 1:1 for Granite, an all-time low.
The end of this decline is not in sight, as high level players are constantly doing Ali Baba adventures, which give beans as "junk loot": Doing only Ali Baba adventures after reaching Level 54, a player will accumulate well over 200000 beans before reaching Level 60.
By the time a player hit Level 70, they will probably hit a good couple millions of beans.
I wouldn't be amazed if a player would earn over 10 million beans by the time they hit Max Level.
Unfortunately, there is not much to do with beans: Buy the Sector Licenses, get the Generals and Quartermasters - a couple of Magnificent Residences and you're set. If you're wasteful, you may need about 300k beans to plaster your island and archipelago. But then - what?
Do we need more/better things to do with Beans, lest they become as useless as Saltpeter once was?
What could that be?

been mentioned already in a few posts. On the other hand, gcs on Sandycove are now desirable again, soo...
Shouldn't it really be `what to do with stalks' ? ;)
If Jolly promises not to hit me with that rolling pin again, I might suggest that for 1 million stalks the player might get a starter pack for TSO 2.
You know the sort of thing BB like to do, 100 pine wood planks, 100 stone, 100 tools, a extra tavern general with a feather in his cap...just to make him special, and not forgetting the most highly valuable `cheese sandwich' to give your new island a head start.
All for 1 million stalks in TSO 1......Problem solved, I can see the price of beans rocketing on the mere suggestion :D :D

How about something players actually care for - something that people would want to use with (near) infinite demand, e.g. something that:
a) Is worth getting
b) Gives you some sort of "progress"
c) Does not consume a limited resource, such as island space

Just give me a 3x barracks buff that lasts either 12 hours or 24 hours the rest of the beans I'll use for something or give away to guildy's.
Making magnificent residences upgradable using beans would be a good start.
Beans -> XP maybe? or star coin
With today's dev blog maybe ideas for zone buffs using beans might be helpful.

+1
Also RPH upgrade would be nice!
Or a new female general!
Or maybe a Trade Office upgrade that adds 1 more slot with each level up!

This is an interesting idea that deserves separate thread. Almost every other building has levels, why not the trade office?

That would be great!
especially now that the space on the island and archipelago where we can place the Magnificent Residence has been reduced drastically (thanks to the last 28 February maintenance and those genius at BB headquarters who make such a decisions!)

BB answer would probably be 100 beans for 10 population per level :)

lol yep bb would but i would gladly pay 15k beans again for a upgrade if it doubled the res population

Come on guys pay attention, look at the prices of the current building offer. This tells us BB would never offer upgrades as cheap as your suggesting.

Prices I paid today I'd probably pay 60k-70k beans to double the population on a Magnificent Residence.

Come on they're magic beans let us plant some at the top of the map for some floating islands, whack some giants on em for us to murder and bam lots of happy players :)
maybe cheap to find but Jack the giant slayer buffs which costs beanstalks to kill the camps MAKE THE FT CASTLE USEFUL AGAIN! atm is a waste of 4 build spaces but too valuable to knock down

sweet idea, mini adventure where beanstalks buffs are needed.
But knowing BB, the reward would probably be 726 XP and a 200 Stone Refill for 10k beanstalks spent ... :(
Newfoundland it's usually 1:1 with granite or 1,2k granite for 1k beans for example. It's nice for me because I am only level 52 (hit 50 a week after xxl update only) but I see how it can be frustrating for high level players.
It will help other players get to higher levels and you higher players got Grout so...I don't see a problem ^^

Give them to others in the guild like I do?
Sell them for any other good stuff like Grout/Buildings.

This is like saying "Just put your trash into the trashcan, then there is no trash problem."
That's just shifting the problem, not solving it.
The problem remains that the mechanisms for taking Beans out of the game are not correlated to the mechanisms of introducing beans, and there is a greater supply than demand. Sooner or later, the oversupply will completely kill the demand.
Isn't it absurd that Beans, the former "high level resource", is already worth less than Saltpeter, a resource which 2 years ago even lv30 players had in excess?
Just in case it isn't clear where this is heading: Beans should be as coveted as Saltpeter is now, not be considered junk to trade away.

These are two different things. Deed building and Grout have nothing related with "trash" resources in the game.
Also this is why there is a trade office.
Like you say: "I have $2 billion and I do not know what to do with them..." ;)

You can only get a finite amount of building deeds from Beans(talks). And you can't get Grout from Beans(talks) unless you play a different version of TSO from the one I do?
There is a point in time when Beans are really nothing other than leftover trash accumulated en masse by high level players.
I already see Beans Value reduced by over 80% compared to a year ago.
Also this is why there is a trade office.
But what would anyone who still needs Beans have to offer to people who have more beans than they need?
Like you say: "I have $2 billion and I do not know what to do with them..." ;)
Problem is when you have 2bn in Italian Lira: Then you may really not know what to do with them ...

Why would people want a currency which they can't use to buy a pint of milk down the shops.

bad news grout will end up worthless too (unless level 7-8-9 etc etc come along).

Its not just Grout, its all the high end new stuff, mahogany, plat ore, plat bar, even salt and tit are starting to drastically loose value. Granite it worthless these days also.
My thought is BB in the next 6 months will do a balance and alter Ali and fairy-tale resource buy up to 90% at a guess totally remove granite and exo from lower level adv. They seem to go the easy option each time.

I hope the section with Epic items will be extended soon. I would not afraid to add some new building/specialist/general with price over 100k beans. Simply there should be something which would give us some target otherwise the game starts to be boring like it was before XXL extension.
