Settlers has been going a long time time now and a lot has changed over the course of 3-4 years, some of the skills no longer seem to work as they first did (loot shovel) things change like a greatly reduced amount of event resources from explorers (Easter for instance) and books invested that seemed to offer good value initially no longer do. In virtually every other game I've played when significant changes happen a free skill re-set has always been offered to accompany those changes.

The free skill reset week could also encompass other changes if BB deemed fit, such as fast iron, saltpetre and titanium mines for instance, perhaps clarify and refine skills such as natures gift which doesn't actually refill much of anything, change lucky find to encompass the new materials available. Make the top skills in the explorer more balanced and maybe worth taking such as Bean-A-Colada.

BB seems determined to overhaul the game from the ground up and maybe this is an area that needs to be re-visited and rebalanced, much has been added and some things taken away partially since the science tree's were introduced. Personally I think it should of been looked at as part of the 50-75 expansion but it's not to late it seems to change anything.

There's some good points in what you say Bluesavanah. There should be skills reflecting the changes for 51-75 and I think it fair to offer a free reset - perhaps a certain number per player? (after all, you can get some books back for free at any time).

other example: i didn't use any "find 2 deposits" skills, because at the time they didn't give the other skill bonuses to the second deposit. Didn't know it was a bug and not intentional, the bug has since been fixed, but i'm stuck with suboptimal skill trees...

There should definitely be a revision of the tech trees, and a free respec day afterwards, preferably by just setting the gem cost of a full respec to 0. And NOT with a silly arbitrary limit as proposed by Xibor, many very very long term players have gathered a fair number of experts by now, it would be a horrible decision to only allow a certain arbitrary number of free respecs.

Totally agree savannah, would also give BB chance to adjust the skill tree to add skills for the xxl pack. Must be a very long time since I did a medium search now so the 'find extra granite on medium search' skill is now pointless.

they could up the number from 31 to add a couple of skill tiers that cover the 50+ materials to be fair any new skills for those should cost codexes to get anyway

Great idea, we need some new skills adding to reflect new explorer and geologist searches in the 50+ expansion and given the time it now takes to produce a single codex, longer term players should not be penalised for skilling their specialists before the new options were available. The only fair way would be like the free movement week, to allow a short window where skill trees can be 100% refunded without gems.

As I have 10 Savage Scouts waiting for skills to be done, I am definitely going to +10 this. The skills definitely need an overhaul and look at.
