View Full Version : Problem with Firefox 47

After upgrading Firefox (x64) from 46.0 to 47.0, I can't play the game.
After the login, the page loads, but I am unable to click anything...
I tried reinstalling Flash Player and the problem solved but after a while came back...
I have to RE-Install FlashPlayer every time in order to play the game.
By downgrading to Firefox 46 everything works fine.

Does anyone else have the same problem or any idea how to solve it?

Additional Info:
Windows 7x64
Flash v21.0.0.242
Firefox v46(x64) and v47(x64)

Having just updated Firefox to test this issue, I have seen no problems with either FireFox or Flash

There are reports of those same problems with Firefox 47 on several forums and while many people don't seem to be having an issue you're definitely not the only one Yoda_2012. Currently the other threads have the same information about how reinstalling Flash only works briefly and going back to FF 46 seems to fix things. Unfortunately there's no "Aha! General quick fix!" post yet but they may be worth keeping an eye on until a solution pops up here or somewhere tech-y.

THANK YOU!
Now I know that I am not crazy...
I thought I was the only one with that problem...
Yesterday I posted this problem on Firefox forums but I thought it was only me.

If You install FF v47 and then RE-Install FlashPlayer, v47 will work fine for a short period of time.
After a while it will hang again... (I have no idea how and why)

I started a topic in Mozilla forums trying to solve the problem
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=3009407
perhaps you can post your case there too...

Additional info...
- My 32bit PCs working OK with FFox47
- Only my 64bit PCs having this issue with FFox47
- Running a 32bit FFox47 on a 64bit PC is OK!

You maybe need to ask them try the game, so we know the issue in specific story like trying this game.

Not had a problem with the update, however because of problems with another site last week I had gone the "flash removal" route before reinstalling the latest version.
Go to Adobe.com, search for the flash removal tool and give it a try. It's worth doing from time to time because constant updates just keep leaving bits of detritus behind.

I did it but... No luck...

Also... In Firefox forums no one seems to believe that problem...
So ... We have either use FFox32 instead of FFox64 or say bye-bye to Firefox and Go to Chrome...
(I think We'll miss Firefox)

I've had similar problems with Flash after major FF and/or Flash updates. Not with main game since I play in Steam but e.g. running settlerscombatsimulator.
Usually corrects itself when either updates itself.
The problem is that it's more specific than everyone using a certain version. When I've had it many others have as well but equally most ppl have not. It comes from some specific combination of FF, Flash and software/hardware.

Recently I've come across a bug/problem with the settlers.

When I load the game I can't click anywhere. Right-clicking also doesn't show the flash menu but the regular rightclick menu in firefox.

I'm able to temporarily fix it by reinstalling flash (on top of the current installation).

I only have this problem with the settlers. Any ideas?

I've tried:
- Reinstalling Firefox.
- Reinstalling Flash (temporary fix until reboot or random when reopening firefox).
- Clearing cache & cookies.
- Trying a different user profile (somehow this keeps me from logging in, the settlers animation just keeps playing without logging in ).

Windows 10 64bit, Firefox 47 64 bit, Flash Player 22.0.0.192

I'm not the only one: http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/31895-Initial-Dialog-Box-will-not-let-me-click-an-option-so-it-won-t-clear but that thread is old.

no idea on fixing that, but perhaps try the game client or a different web browser such as Chrome.

It works in Edge. But I want to use my own browser.

I wasn't on my PC all day but I always keep it on. Just tried to play and same thing. No reboot or anything. Off to reinstall flash and restart firefox again. *sigh*

Of firefox or flash player?

See also: Problem with Firefox 47 (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/33340-Problem-with-Firefox-47) wherein Yoda_2012 is quite sane. :D

Consensus across worlds seems to be that changing the Firefox setting from 64 bit to 32 bit is a simple and reliable fix, and going back to FF 46 (if you can stop it auto-updating to 47 again) also has good reports.

NB That's an entirely non-techie translation of info posted by more technologically advanced people so by all means correct it if it's hinky.

Just tried it. No problem in firefox 46.

47 again. Broken. Ugh.

I rather keep my browser updated. Guess I could use the 32bit version for now.

I shall complain to the mozilla overlords.

I have the same issue with the standalone client as mentioned in http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/33316-PC-program-not-working and the fix suggested there did not help me, it still shows the VLC icon when started.

In Firefox I can load up the game, but it can't take input. That is, the mouse does not react with the game, buttons can't be clicked. When right clicked it opens the right click menu of the browser, not the right click menu of Flash. It's like there's a layer on top of the game that prevents me from interacting with it.

I can still load the game in Chrome, but it's a bit unstable and the Flash plugin crashes often.

Specs:
Windows 7 64 bit, Firefox 47.0.1.

Edit: It seems IE will run the game fine. Still a bit odd with Firefox and the standalone game, they worked a few days ago.

Strange. I've been using FireFox version 3.6.22 with Settlers Online for over 4 years now and it's worked like a charm.

I have found a workaround. If I every time I start the game go to inspect elements (F12) and there selects the div-tag "gameContainer" and disables "pointer-events: none;". Now mouse-events are getting through to flash but the game feels very slow, specially when scrolling.

Upgrade to FF 47.0.1 No problems with it :D
