I've lost count of how many tries I have had. :(
And another 50 gems today. !!!!!
I estimate I've failed once a week since the excelsior patch now totals 34 (including today's fail) :D
Thanks BB for the latest update, which has allowed the manuscript recipe to be available after a prescribed number of tries. I have one now!!!!!

Seriously BB we need to know the ball park figure for the guarantee. Otherwise we have no way of knowing wether we not done it enough times or wether there is a bug and we should send in a ticket.
For example if the game due to a bug thinks I already have gotten the recipe even though I haven't I could go on forever trying get one.

This should be impossible, unless they made a guaranteed manuscript after 50+ attempts or so, which is crazy. My guess is that they didnt fixed anything, just doing some mental experiment. I tried 2 times after the patch, both times i got 50 gems, together i think i made around 20 attemts already, so still possible to not get it after at least 30 attempts more..

Check your star menus too, i found my manuscript recipe (or specifically that mysterious box) there, don't know how long it has been there or did i manage to do enough those letters before the change...

Been through my star several times, just to make sure I haven't missed it. Wish it had been that though.

I fail to see why not getting an extra item that isn't required to complete anything is unjust. It's a bonus, that's all - and now it's been made the case that sooner or later you will get it if you keep trying.
If something like the bookbinder had recipes before you could make anything at all then perhaps yours would be a stronger argument, but since being able to make books is automatic one you build the building then anything extra is just that - extra. Is it unjust I don't have a witch tower or a white castle yet despite playing the appropriate adventures many times?
Finally got it, 6 tries since update somewhere around 42 tries in total.
i had 12 tries , no luck , and now bug ate 15 tomes and codex .. so not enjoying the game very much , just getting more and more irritated every next go .. had enough , LEAVING GAME ... bb

If a "bug" did somehow eat your tomes and codex, our Support Team would very much like to hear about it. If confirmed, they should be able to help you out.

BB, TELL US HOW MANY TRIES IT TAKES! Did you fix anything? I lost count of my tries to get the manuscript recipe, but around 25 I think. I am losing patience with this game - not getting the recipe puts some of us at a disadvantage. Not fair.
Keep this up if your goal is to lose players.

i dont think its very helpful telling ppl u got the recipe 1st, 2nd or 3rd try when they are obviously very frustrated with their own attempts.
a guildie of mine has tried several times every weekend since exelsior arrived. i keep telling him that bb has made a fix and he will get it after a maximum amount of tries, but i am wondering what this maximum figure is and knowing bb as we all do, does the system actually work?

on manusc recipe i am on 15th try , no light on the end of tunel
if i may suggest .. seems unfair to have such a important science boost gain relying on pure luck ...
e.g. if you gather 18 letters in 10 days guy who gets recipe after 4 tries and other guy who get recipe after 25 tries will have 200+ days difference in science boost .. first guy got rewarded for doing nothing , and other guy will eat his ***s for 200 days and write stupid posts on forum
so, suggestion is , give us science token every time we finish 18 long letters quest ,and when we gather 10 tokens we get recipe ..

Don't know how many times I tried to get the manuscript think over 30 times or could be even a lot more lost count (I'm in premium and take almost all the crystal offers since we have exelsior and spend them om long letters ) the but still no luck, sigh a big big sigh :(
Why didn’t BB in the update use the game mechanics; they already have in place, to display progress towards the maximum tries to get the recipe – Achievements.
Players could see progress towards the selected maximum and make achievement reward the recipe, if the player hasn’t already received it through the random process.
I haven’t scrolled through the 28 pages but would be surprised if this hasn’t already been suggested by someone already.
At least players who have been unlucky so far would know where they stand.

They clearly don´t care - or don´t know what to do about it. Still no recipe here btw, it has been six months now. Try every week when I have the crystals.

BB please answer these guys because this is getting ridiculous. Why is it such a problem to tell us how many tries it takes to be sure that one will get the recipe?
I got mine and I really think that it's a huge advantage, especially since the general skill tree was introduced.
I think that people would be more satisfied even if you told them that it takes 50 or 100 tries, than being in this situation where they don't know anything and they keep hoping and getting disappointed over and over again.
I know in some events you get to pick your prize you chose. say for the christmas event they offer up the option of the manuscript recipe(for those that don't have it)?
sure you miss out on something else that might be more awesome BUT its YOUR choice to make.
its the rational way to just 'hand it out like candy' but yet not actually give it away without some sort of drawback to finding it the 'natural way'

After completing 13 excels within 2 weeks, i still got no manuscipt. I really wonder if the drop chance has been changed at all.

No, I don´t believe so either. I have tried for months and months, every week - no recipe.
It's the same chance as getting a rare building from an adv. like the angel gate from SE, how often do they drop?? Patience is needed here, the record number of tries I hear thru the grapevine is 72, so if u get it in half the time u got a result!
Manuscripts recipe took 6 or 7 attempts, Codex recipe i got at first attempt, not tried (as not interested in) Tome recipe.

That is almost a year and a half - for me at least, one quest per week. I just MIGHT lose my patience in that time frame....
Yeah, feel your pain, gem buyers are playing 1 per day, so taking a week to gain enough crystals to play 1 quest must be tedious, that 72 attempt guy was from the German servers and that was b4 the so called fix.
BB need to relay the info on this fix, is it 30 - 40 - 50 attempts b4 u automatically get the recipe??

I think the number isn't per person, but counted over all players, like a casinojackpot. The player who finishes his/her quest as say number 1000 gets the jackpot :D
I decided to write here, so i can track my lost attempts in the future. I think this is bugged. I believe I tried about 30 times already, but i will count from 20 now. tLet say this was my 20th failed attempt, i will be back in a few weeks, i guess.

I think I am now the only one in my guild who hasn´t been able to get the recipe yet, comparing to approximately same levels.
I am very pleased that everyone got the recipes finally, because they were getting frustrated after many, many tries.
But it leaves me with a strange feeling, I have had more tries than any of them, still no recipe, so I am still frustrated!
And here is a thing that makes it even more difficult. To TRY to get the manuscript recipe, you often have to do quests where you have to produce CODEX. That slows upgrading of my gens, geologists and explorers even further, since it takes a long time to make 10 manuscripts, then two tomes, then the codex. This game is really incredibly stupid!
I need the manuscripts and tomes, SLOWLY produced in the Bookbinder, to upgrade my generals, geologists and explorers. I don´t need CODEX, which I can only put aside for later use.

Thanks for sharing that. It makes it SO much easier to know that, when you have had 30 + tries (aka many months of trying)! HAHAHA
No, seriously, congrats, some are lucky, some aren´t. Just a pity some leave the game over this!
P.S. just signed up for another game - maybe I will have more luck there.

OK, finally got the recipe, no more whining - or yes, just a little more: why did it have to take half a year? I am way behind other players now.
Oh, I see. If I start whining here and threaten to leave the game, BB will give me the recipe :)
Seriously, though, about 15 tries now, no joy, so I guess I can join the "outsiders" club.

After the first 5-10 failed attempts it's just a growing frustration, but nothing we haven't experienced before (try 200 DBs without WT many years ago). 10-15 failures - anger. Over 15 - a feeling of being cheated by BB. I think I'm ready to join the whining club :(

7th Compass quest in a row. I have no books left so I need the recipe to get manuscripts to complete the quest to get the manuscript recipe. I approve mightily of this level 75 trolling by the devs.

Is there a set amount of times to get the recipe from the evil queen? Done it 3 times already and don't care for the blueprints, 5 troop draining adv's with no recipe at the end is poor, its not like collecting crystals and spawning adv for the manu recipe, this is costing 1000's of elite troops per try!
And that loot is terrible, also a very low % chance at a building in any of the 5.
I am now up to 54 times trying for a manuscript recipe it is beyond a joke !!!

Don't think there is for Snow White no. Wiki says 10% chance for Tome recipe, but who knows?
If you don't care for Epic Farm, you should just ignore Evil Queen. Better make Tomes in Bookbinder anyway.
i still think get a random amount of tokens and spend those tokens in a shop is much better than random loot. even if u only get 1 token it's a little progress towards ur goal and i often wonder if luck is an included stat when u create an account (like d&d type stats) as most of my guildies have far better "random loot" than i could ever hope to see!

Well it sucks but there is no bug if its just random and the added fail safe mechanism activates after +40-50 tries. You also seem to have bad luck with getting letter snippets if it takes you almost 3 weeks to make a single long letter. Also remember that the current design is based around on the fact that some people can try it every few days and they are never left empty handed as gems and xp are acquired. With the gems they can buy prem and double the crystals you get per week from daily quests.

Also earlier in the thread was a point was made (several times) that adding something fairly useful to the game via a random factor clearly causes huge frustration. Just don't do it, eh? We can buy lottery tickets anywhere. Being unlucky isn't "difficult" it's just annoying. It probably cost BB sales of gems IMO.

random loot is a terrible system! yes, make things hard. I dont want to attain everything want in 1 week but i prefer event systems. win a random amount of currency and spend that in a shop. even if ur unlucky at least u can see a small gain in that currency each time

You don't need to be a paying player to get 200-500 gems per week. An active player can get one 1d prem per week plus half of a one week prem gems. How players choose to use theirs is up to them but still has to be noted in the design some way.

I got it on my 30th attempt! I can not express a relief that I feel and I wish this never ending agony will end for other players aswell. Good luck to everyone!

Got it on 17th try. I would not have minded the number of tries if I didnt have to create a codex with a maxed bookbinder out of nothing every time just to try again. Anyway I can now stop being the laughing stock of the family (both my bros got it on 4th try and didnt have to make codex all the time) and only have to wait 2 more years for the 2k manus to finish so I can catch up to the ones who got it without difficulty.

I stopped counting, i think I passed 20 times mark easily....I am very, very annoyed at that stage.
It cracks me up when I hear from many of my friends getting it within 3 - 4 attempts tops. I even started eating out my gems to speed up the process....waste, I could use them for something else. Hope someone high up read what I had to say

There is a way to get it for sure. Play long letters enough. There's a stopgap somewhere in the 40+ range or some such. Same mechanic used on co-ops for rare buildings, just without the first 100% guarantee drop.

The guaranteed drop is at approx 63 attempts.
63 is crazy, who can be bothered to do it 63 times?

38 pages of mostly complaints about this feature and still nothing is done to Improve the slot machine nature of how it's run.
sometimes it helps to listen to how players feel about a feature that causes some to quit the game.
