Make improved storehouse turnable when built so it fits the same space like a normal watermill too. The game needs more flexibility regarding building spaces.

not just stores, but any building bigger than 1x1.

+1 the possiblities of utilising current wasted island space for this alone is well worth consideration

A solution less ambitious could be to make a swap function that allows improved storehouses to be swapped 1:1 with another storehouse turned 90 degrees.

Another solution could be to make a new storehouse like the old one but turned 90 degrees and make it buyable.

While I would like to see that solution to the problem I hope there are a few other buildings higher up the design list of things to do.

think this probably negates the whole idea of designing ur island appropriately, which to me is a huge part of the game :)
