Expedition's finalizing quests

I finally conquered my first colony island and got 2 more quests - one under the other - which so far means that they can be performed independently from each other in random order: Build your defence and Claim the colony. So I decided that the second one will be done faster and made it first. Then the colony rectangle on the right side disappeared. Now I don't see from where to go to my new colony to build defence on it. Anybody can provide me with a hint?

you have to build the defences before you claim
once you have claimed it you cannot go back to the colony

So it is a bug, since I'm effectively blocked from finishing this line of quests.
Any solution?

It is not a bug, you can complete the quests in either order. The order you chose will just require you to conquer another colony so you can build some defenses. When claiming a colony there is a dialog popup warning you that you will not be able to build or modify its defenses after claiming it. You get 4 total colony slots for free, and you can drop a colony at any time before it expires as long as it's not under attack.
