In Diligent Geologist; "Bookbinder Wilderwood Resin, Bookbinder Sugar Glue, Bookbinder Hide Glue" written two times. Is it a copy/paste mistake?
Will we see X3 gem for 10th Year?
what did this mean feels like a hidden meaning
"You can even see other islands!"
did you checked all buildings for the famous "recurring" bug?
The last door of the calendar shouldnt it be The Wondrous Celebration Residence creates a festive ambiente on your island and increases the Population greatly. It is very small and only requires a 2x2 square of place!
1x as reward for completing calendar (last door) / 1x in bundle / 1x Donation Quest / 5x 9999 Gems
but showing as a tribute like it did on test server would rather have the residence
great as always
everything working as intended
I limited explorers to 5 of types. Hate when I get something that I cant sell or delete.

Check out our changelog from today's maintenance HERE (https://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/37836-Dev-Diary-Anniversary-Event-2020?p=359157&viewfull=1#post359157).
the misty cake adv is bugged, and really not finished- have no clue why BB decides to put half finish content out. For some players they cant move gens out of landing zone and cant attack the camp. Only way to finish adv when that happens is to use pults. The adv have lots of"undefined txt" in it.
Who says you cannot party while preparing for an even bigger party? Let's do a celebration Marathon - a Celebrathon - and see how many small parties we can do in the next weeks! A new repeatable Challenge Questchain "Celebration Marathon", split into 10 rounds with several subquests, was added as a Main Quest to the game. The first main quests starts after reaching level 16 and the next Main Quest will start after the previous one is finished.
Just found out that "repeatable" in above quote from DD does not actually mean we can do the whole 10x10 quest chain again from round 1 after round 10 has finished. Which is a major disappointment. But then I thought that making it repeatable according to what the DD says should not be that difficult. Just one switch added to the code - after Round 10 go to Round 1. :)

Folks, I'm not sure if you are aware, but if you donate the balloons now, they will still count towards the 2nd and 3rd goals. I heard from some super secret source that we'll be really close if you start donating balloons from your warehouses!
In the quest "Brewery buff" use 2 fish platter on your breweries - why does it not work on Friary????????
I bombed my breweries years ago - now I have to put one up just to use a ... fish platter on it??
Who made these quest ?? - Either someone who does not know the game or someone with no brain.

Can we please get official clarification of the above issue? I see BB_Trafffer posting here but not a word regarding this "repeatable" quest chain. Number of us rushed through this Celebration Marathon expecting to get it done several times around, but finishing round 10 doesn't trigger the quest to start again. Is it just a misleading wording or is there another trigger to restart the "repeatable" questchain?

It's misinterpretation/translation error or refers to the nature of the rounds. It did not repeat at test server and for example Polish or German dev diary do not say anything about it repeating. Given the quality of the rewards vs effort it would also be crazy if it would repeat :P
I wouldn't mind. Was ready to go through it 3 to 4 times :)
I agree .... Lets make this Questchain repeatable ......... The rewards are great ... Please BB ..... Put the Quest on Repeat :-)

It is not the first time that we are lost because BB does not know how to translate into english. I dont get why they cant hire someone to check text before putting it out, well but then they don't even bother to put text. Misty cake is filled with "undefined text"
While looking at Future TSO on German forum I also had the idea to check Dev Diary there. German DD says nothing about "repeatable" quests. How it got into English DD only Heaven & Hell knows. Not even google translate made such a mistake. Original speaks about ten rounds with increased difficulty. It would still be fair for BBs to clean up the mess they created and post correction note to English DD.
Looks like I better check anything suspicious on German forum or with Mods here before I take it on board. In a way this false info sort of spoiled the fun in part. I would have certainly played differently if it was clear we can only go through Celebration Marathon once.
have to do a "Retro Style" adv for daily quest, how do I get one?, not in star & refreshed. thought advs for event got replaced as used?

It's *just* appeared in my star menu.

Technically speaking the quests are repeatable, because each round consists of the exact same, just the numbers change (apart from one where refill type changes).
Its certainly misleading description though.
Im recently hit level 54, so Ive only just built elite barracks. I can only train a single unit type, which happens to get shredded by the enemies in the "Misty cake" adventure. If I keep training units day and night until the end of the event, I may get enough of them to take me through a single Misty cake, but it appears uncertain even that.
I may have to supplement them with grinding down many thousands of regular units as well to even get through at all. My question is, isn't it a bit tough to let the hardest version of the encounter hit those who have barely started training elite units at all, and only have a single unit type available? Obviously, I lack the tools for dealing with the camps that would normally be available to a higher level player. To progress the quest chain at all I will probably have to skip past it, which seem rather counter intuitive to have to bypass special content created for the event...
Did someone have a stuck copy paste key on their keyboard? I can think of much more different things you can make us do than - "do 2 minis! do 2 ventures - do a level 11 or higher adventure or scenario ( there is not even a level 11 scenario) - one think is that the rounds repeat it self - but the other quests have exactly the same elements making this event very very boring to do. It is nice to have something to do - but please try to use just a little imagination.
I have guildies who are not able to get all these ventures- they cant be traded and not all have a stash - yes we did got some crystals in the rewards, but not enough to do this many.
I have asked this in chat too, but lets try here too.
Why doesnt the widget give the end date of the event but instead days later?
Eventcalendar runs till sunday sept 20 , donating can be done till monday sept 21, widget says it will close 24 sept. I have to asume this means this is the deactivation moment, but cant find it anywhere as the whole dev diary gives no deactivation date....
I am used to dev diaries and widgets wich give the correct dates, but this is a mess. dates for donating are in dev diary, but no date for deactivation, so i have to asume the time announced in the widget is that moment, but that would be contrary to all events we had before ...

like 2 days, or 3 or 4 maybe 5 days??? so not so clear as you think.... my question remains...

150 from the calendar, +50 from the daily event quests, ~50 from daily logins, +50-150 from regular daily quests, crystal shards which you get daily from collection quests or the daily mini quests from merchant. On top of that there are the 150 gems from the calendar and 200-300 from weekly login, and possibly 200-300 from epic merchant to do extra crystal rolls so there are more than enough to get the required ventures if one thinks the rewards are worth it
I liked the 10 day celebration quest line but it should of been level dependent ...ventures you cant buy so if you have no crystals you had to use gems to pass that sub-quest also asking for pro-longed searches etc when a person is below the level to do them seemed unfair again had to be passed by using gems

There are plenty of crystals available and the smallest venture only requires 5 pieces. Why would you need to use gems on anything yet? over a week left of the event.

because when your new you dont have that many crystals and there is very few ways to get them so unless you have build up a surplus it isnt always easy and getting 5 pieces isnt always that easy when limited on how many crystals you have

Look at the post I made before yours on the previous page, it applies to everyone from new or old player to low and high level. BB most likely had that in mind that everyone can get hundreds of crystals during event when they were deciding the tasks.
many new/inactive players do expect to have the same things as old and very active ones. that can't be right, can it?
a big thanks to all who developed and thought of all these events that are spawning here and there.
keep up the good work

Is this true?
I was quite happy about the planning Id done to manage to pass with limited explorers through the quest chain, only to now hear I cannot complete the last quest because I'm not high enough level to do the last kinds of searches?
Well, if this is true, its not just dumb. Its very disappointing. Like REALLY disappointing.
In before someone say I can skip the quest with gems....for some playing games with cheat codes might be standard, but its not for me. I want to actually go through the thing. Twice as many searches of a lower level or whatever would have at least give me the possibility. Im some day off reaching that point. We will see when i get there.
plenty of time to level up . stop moaning and crack on
Sorry but it's the nature of gaming, there are going to be some things you can't do because you have not reached a high enough level.

I'm on my 3rd one of these. It would be nice if the rewards changed.

Agree, does not work on improved bakeries either need to build a bakery! Come on Devs get with the program 10 years on and you still don't think about what your doing with quest lines and where the players are in the game.Very disappointing!

was a pain but i found a really easy solution build a bakery and a brewery took a few minutes and will knock them down at end of event
Not really the point I was making Hades8840. These are just the signs of poor design and muddled/rushed thinking ( if thought was indeed employed ). How much more professional would it have been to ensure the buff would work on basic and improved buildings? Would it require a little imagination to move the adventure difficulty by one for each time you move through the quest line within the level groups not just stick in `do a adventure of 11+', as in my case? And why 11+ not 10+? These are all things that should be picked up in the `story board' part of the event design, especially for an event of this size. Eight years on and I'm still left wondering if any one left at BB have actually played the game in their own time for real and not just on a dev machine.
ps. Gemming the quests is imv the start of a slippery slope and only encourages even more poor design.

Guess what, we have another one which only works on normal copper mines. Starting to look like all the event quests were written back in 2010.
I'm still left wondering if any one left at BB have actually played the game in their own time for real and not just on a dev machine.
Im still left wondering why people assume any developer is somehow obliged to play the game.
The design is trivial and doesnt require much apart from using common sense, hence theres no reason anyone from inside the team would spend any time on actually playing it, especially outside of working hours.

Well if you believe the statements that have been coming out of BB regarding `Flash end of life', namely how much they love the game, you would think that at least some would. After all how better to make constructive changes, or to make changes that would improve the game, other than to play the game for real not on a development machine. Only in live they would gain `real time' understanding of how those elements fit into the game in real time?
Of course the alternative is to listen for feedback ...say from the player base and act on that feedback ...better still have a test server so those changes can be tried, tested and changed and properly understood and debugged before going live using the free knowledgeable player base who do genuinely love the game ...oh wait didn't I hear somewhere that there was one ? How strange, I wonder why forum feedback on live is still required with all this attention to checks and balances?
So your right sparkz, there should not be a need for devs to play the game for real. If you only need `common sense' and perhaps an ear and eye on feedback to your game proposals and development from forum and test media. However when I see poor, slap happy implementation of quest lines and functionality, as is seen in this event, I really think it should come down to an either/ or development process, not a neither.
Guess what, we have another one which only works on normal copper mines. Starting to look like all the event quests were written back in 2010.
Not sure of what's happening on Sandycove, but in Newfoundland we've had a recent surge of new players and even plenty of old ones coming back to the game after a break of a few years.
It is therefore easy to see why those specific quests were created with them in mind rather than the continuously playing ones, who will have an island full of improved buildings/endless mines.
Not a big deal though, just added some copper to unmined deposits and temporarily built some breweries and bakeries. Not worse than having to find multiple spots for pumpkins fields, flowers farms and whatnots ;)

A little information on the weekend:
Please also donate your balloons and tell your friends/guild members to do the same. Currently, there are still MANY balloons in the storages and the goal could be almost or completely finished. In the end, it will not help if you leave the balloons in your storages. We all want the rewards from the community goal 2 :)

if we over donate, will it count towards the round 3 or they will get lost as in the last years?
many are moaning about what his event is asking you to do to achieve some rewards.
if you don't like the rules, then give up on this event.
i don't believe they are hard to read and very difficult to understand.
bugs and glitches are a different story, but when you moan about placing a cheap, short, meaningless buff on a basic building that kinda makes no sense to me.
keep calm and crack on. 9 more days to go and most of you will go back to being dormant

Something that needs to be considered is that buff should be applicable to endless mines and improved buildings as most of us dont have a brewery, baker anymore as we replaced with improved ones.

over to the next stage like it did this year when we went from stage 1-2 the only time balloons are lost is when you reach you personal goal and you have to do 1k balloons at a time if you donate more they still go to the global but they dont carry over for you on your next 1k quest
Folks, I'm not sure if you are aware, but if you donate the balloons now, they will still count towards the 2nd and 3rd goals.
It was said here: Yes it counts.
This is a great event. Ty BB. Good quests, and a LOT of them, nice rewards. I dont think i will complete all 10 rounds, but it doesnt matter. I still get some fine things! :)

dont know what the global base of active players but assuming we averaged around 30k balloons over a two week period (which we wouldnt of as you cant get 30k but must be close) we would of needed a active player base of 50k plus players do we really have that sort of number worldwide?
o-ok, so the personal donation quests require ONLY numbers of balloons to be fulfilled - and the mass-quests had ALSO time limit?!!! Seriosly?
I did not notice this until I saw the failure message just now.
So what we got from this condition is it killed the spirit of celebrating together.

What are you on about? I'm already on my 10th 1k donation after reaching the 25k milepost and there's still a week to go!
I am perma-prem, have pfb applied, have selected mortars (and still making more than I part with thanks to the buffing of my xmas bakeries/snacks) and aside from the quest at the start to self-buff with a petite cake, only swap in TO for enormous cakes.
All I have to do, is wait for the amount of balloons made to reach 1k and that happens every 12 hours! So basically twice a day. It's not rocket science...

this thime the add so much community goal the second week. I think they prayed and hoped people got nervoious and would buy with gems balloons. i had could never afford to buy the so much missing balloons lol.
First year in the 10 times we where celebrating or 8 online that we not managed the goal of the second week and that makes me sad.
The problem you can not do much your self to make it to that goal how much you play and how much quest you do. How much candles you sell so people can make there big Birthday cakes. I hope we make it to the last goal. General is interesting.

wow u did well then didnt realise there was 7k worth of balloons to be had from non fesival sources plus not everyone can dump out the mortars ar the highest level hence why I said averaged most you could get from the festival hall is around 28-29k over 14 days so rest has to come from quests etc
Northisle fail on community quest phase2. other servers?
Ultimately not reaching the community goal is BB failure. They are the only one who have global data on collection and behaviors from previous events and can make prediction. And they failed.

Northisle fail on community quest phase2. other servers?
What is it about the word GLOBAL that you dont understand?
German servers failed, polish servers failed, US server failed, russian servers failed we all failed.
Oh well in fact BB failed, they set that insane amount as goal afterall.....

I don't know but we're supposedly "celebrating" (big lol) the 10th anniversary of TSO, which means as the game gets older so hardened players becomes more experienced from one year to the next.
We've never had so many diverse and strong gens, buffs to remove camps etc.
So dealing with mortars 24/7 over the course of a 3 weeks event, shouldn't be much of an issue for the aforementioned players.
As such, many can feel aggravated by BB's decision to throw near impossible figures to achieve, as they feel they've contributed really decently.
For whatever reason, BB, as they already did during last Valentine's event, seem to believe the tougher the event, the better it is to be played.
I wonder how most players, seasoned or not, will feel about being punished by having a dangling carrot being removed in front of their nose, simply because the "powers that be" have decided to not reward their community...
I've not bought any gem in ages and that will not happen in the near future. I too can play that "game" of having something someone might want but opting eventually not to part with it.
Let's see how that pans out ;)
hmmm. was all servers then. lol
Lets get the phase 3 then.
If i exclude this missing, this is the best event ever!
BB could have discretely topped us up over the week-end or given us another day BUT the rewards from the other quests have been VERY good so I'm not that put out about missing the goal. I'll end up with so many kill buffs that the Mountain campaign is going to be very easy for a while.
I'm surprised that BB did not have a backup solution. Donation machine to employ in case it was needed to ensure completion or something like that. Community goal is such a floating target prone to unpredictability. it's just important that we get it. Period. No sane person is gonna spend money to buy balloons for gems in face of dozens of millions missing. It's not like personal target. Psychological negative effect of failure in these terms just plays against the fun of the game and helps nothing and nobody.
In a event like this there are different ways the game designers can fail. Firstly due to a software bug but as there have been no reports of any bugs with donations we can rule this out. Secondly there is hardware failure but as we did not experience a server outage we can also discount this. This leaves just one possibility a failure in the planning stage.
BB once again showed a total lack of judging the impact upon the whole game due to their decisions, they have a long history of adding stuff without asking the question how will it affect what is already in-game. Example they add a new improved building and fail to adjust the quests and buffs to take the new building into account, waiting until we moan about them here on the forums.
This time they are guilty of failing to consider the impact of the new celebration quests upon balloon donations.
Donation phase I the players achieved with a comfortable margin.
Donation phase II the players failed. Sure we got some encouragement to donate what we had in storage but a percentage of whats in stores would be held in the stores of players who due to real life are not in a position to log in to donate. This makes a mockery of the statements we had that there was already enough balloons made. On top of this BB have in-acted a policy of increasing the targets every year, this policy means they are setting us up to fail eventually.
The Celebration quests also introduced another failure point. In the first week we was busy running these quests which gave us a additional balloon income. However over time the higher level players have lost this income due to completing all celebration quests, as time goes on the percentage of the player base who reach this point is increasing.
The responsibility for this fiasco rests squarely on BB's shoulders and we all know they can only atone for this is by giving us the phase II rewards.

Regular reward are good.
I think BB have too all the data. People is acting is something diffrent then only having the data without action.
I think the warning by BB mod/admin on the forum as they did today was beter on friday. Then people had time to remeber the announcement and see it daily when login.
Because lots of people do not read the forum so did not act on time to get the community donation goal.
So hope at the end of the event we make it.
The future will proof if the data en full warehouse where the only trues

Updates for phase 2 and 3 can be found on our homepage, social media, and in-game - please check it :)
As a level 54 player, I have found Misty Cake to be impossible. I don't understand why I'd be expected to defeat enemies normally found on adventures I'm not even at a high enough level to play. I just had the opportunity to unlock the elite barracks, but can't generate the right troops to defeat these camps without tremendous losses and buff kills. So I'm having to use gems to complete the quest in order to continue, but it is getting expensive...
Phase 2 goal was set too high when compared to goals for Phases 1 and 3
Not enough incentive to donate the ballons.
Not clear how donations would be implemented.
*EPIC FAIL* BB

Hm, so now you're dangling two carrots in front of our nose? :) I would prefer different solution - phase 2 goal just kept collecting till done. This double dangle, I don't know - but doubt it serves as motivation to anyone. Let's see how well you've done with your prediction of gaming behavior this time. :)

No, the progress was frozen when time ran out and quest failed.
That's exactly why I said I'd prefer different solution. What do you find difficult to understand about that? :)
I am starting to get more and more angry. Every active player in my guild are collecting all they can - have enormous cake put so festival hall is buffed all the time. We cant make any more. BB is trying to make us blame each other for their failure to put a realistic goal
We did not fail - BB failed. You cant produce more if they dont expect us to go and bye the balloons. It is not us players who need to fix this. What about all the balloons that went out the windows during the time the phase 2 quest froze and the phase 3 quest was there??
I feel like being a kid again, back when a friend sometimes got mad at me and wanted a present back.
This time it is not a friend - but a company who are trying to find ways to make me spent money, and now even want to take part of the product they are selling me back :p
it's everyone's choice, nobody is forcing anybody to spend money or achieve any targets.
this event needs numbers, active players, to gather and donate.
i don't see a reason to blame BB for not having enough of those or to ask/demand/dream of all those un-achieved targets
to be gifted or reshuffled just cause some are moaning about.
this was a learning curve for devs for sure.
as for the players, keep calm and just move on. you not losing anything but time if y'all keep dragging or begging about it.
this was an event. a failed one in many years, with rewards that are not a game changer.
just imagine what you could moan about when the big change it's coming
Well - it is not a matter of choice we already give as much as we can - you cant produce more than max- it is the choice of the devs to make goals that are achievable.
Yes we have a choice- we can chose not to play the game.
As far as I can see the quests in both Celebration and the little daily quest chain are working exactly as intended. What I also see is a situation which has existed in game since it's inception, yet we get new quests which follow the same pattern as we have seen for the last 10 years and now people are complaining about it despite accepting it for all the time like they have played the game.
this event needs numbers, active players, to gather and donate.
i don't see a reason to blame BB for not having enough of those or to ask/demand/dream of all those un-achieved targets
to be gifted or reshuffled just cause some are moaning about.
this was a learning curve for devs for sure.
Theres publically available data regarding site traffic that shows the game has been bleeding out players for years (which is anything but unexpected). Yet at the same time we now have an event introduced where requirements based on active players are increased compared to previous one.
This is not a learning curve, this is acting irrationally.

i would like to see those numbers too if you don't mind sharing a link of some sort.
as i said before: like it or not, we do what we can or like to.
seeing that we have so many players in here spitting left and right that this is wrong or unachievable,
i have not seen much chatter during or half way into the stages claiming that this won't happen.
was it a drop in players interest?
was it a glitch in counting balloons globally?
was it a cock-up in forecasting production/loot?
there's your learning curve of which BB was aware days before stage two was about to end.
they told us what's what there and then.
and what did we all do. spread it out a bit and then kept poncing about with individual gains, loot/xp, thinking and spreading that it won't fail.
stage 1 ended 2 days early. how much production was there and how much loot ?
stage 1-10 was first ended in 3-4 days time i believe. that's a 1 day max production of balloons ,
2k (looking over wiki rewards, can't remember what else was involved)
whomever done first week i believe they kept on playing 2nd one too, hence the production, storing and counting or miscounting that BB made.
i really don't see the irrational bit into this.but only a glitch in setting up a target based on real info.
and now, somehow, we are a bit ahead of donations. me thinks there was a bit of truth in there

For us to have reached the stage 2 target all that was needed was for 60k players to donate 25k balloons each. (1,500,000,000/25,000). I managed to do that on Newfoundland, Sandycove, Northisle and even Zeus where I am only level 40 and until this event only had 4 tavern generals to do adventures with. This suggests to me that the player base has to be well under that 60k number, across the whole world....Or maybe we have a much bigger base and many haven't been converting anything and waiting for others to reach the global target?
The achievements need to be adjusted to reflect how many balloons you donate and that is where the gifts should be. After all, you can easily have a cake dropped onto an inactive festival hall 10 times to manage those achievements.
i really didn't get your math vs stage 2 target

Target was 1,500,000,000, by time we got to end of stage 2 most active players would/should have donated 25,000 (I had donated that on zeus on my lvl 40 account). So if you divide the big number by the little number, lol, that gives you 60k players. But as we didnt reach the target then less than 60k had hit the 25k ballons donated, which is amazing.
i believe stage 2 started from 500m not from 0. it's a continuous donation from 0 to 500 into 1500 towards 2100 :)
it took me while but i got there in the end

;-))
A couple of things we had problems with:
quests for lvl11 adv popping up all the time, lower level players cannot do these and are relying on ls. It should have been lvl10
Round 10 and the searches, those under level 55 couldn't do these because of this : (Very Long 72 hours (from 56 lvl)

About the event still going on - it should work until 24th (bonus loot/exp, etc). For example, you can still get some achievements if you haven't achieved them yet. I understand that this is a bit confusing and I will bear it in mind in future events.

It would not be confusing if it was clearly stated at the beginning or shortly after. Otherwise I'm ok with 3 more days of bonus, of course. :)
May I suggest more communication and clearer information next time which will help everyone!
Am I suprised...no not really since i did place a piece here about how unclear the dev diary was about the event, but hey according to other players it oh soo clear...but everyone was guessing what it said....
The main problem are the words *event ends* , as far as i can see now , cause all that ended was the callendar and the possibilitie to contribut to the comunal goal...
Everything else went on.....
We even got a new daily quest wich gave a scouting post after the time the event officially ended.....

I received the quest with the scouting post on the day before you, it convinced me even more that it was the final day of the event!
a guildie read info for me that BB put - saying that event ended at the 21,- even though the info said 3 more days - so it seems that even BB did not know when event ended - the strangest most muddled event ever.
Event is over, so last words of assessment.
I think the event was actually brilliant. Good rewards, plenty of quests, more variety then usual event resource grinding. I liked the fact that daily chains were lined one after another so nothing missed by being late, and similarly daily quest were up to 5 live at the same time. Celebration Marathon was a very nice challenge, but only once a year. Don't want to see similar concept in other events. :)
Negative side was low clarity of communication with several mess-ups in it. Seems like even BB themselves did not know how the event would finally evolve.

The event was pretty well designed and executed I thought, in our guild we appreciated the variety of quest types and variety of rewards.

I enjoyed it. I was only doing the daily quests half-heartedly until the scouting post appeared at the end so it was a mad rush to catch up over the last couple of days but I managed it with a few hours to spare.
Do you know why some of us received the Coinage tribute and other tributes while other didn't? I have noble hunter tribute, coinage tribute and bookbinder tribute and I do not know why I have them.
I am asking because one of my friends didn't received any of them and I didn't had them before the event.

Coinage tributes have nothing to do with the event as they are normal achievement rewards from the missions section
