Seems to be hanging for me, loads the two bits where the bars go across then just sits there
Oh seems just be patient, 5 mins and it made it in!
Watching CPU performance the client stopped using CPU and it looks hung, but it will reappear and then it will finish loading it seems
my sistem is win vista game no work on him
it only show uninstall in game folder need litle help if possible
works for me but did anyway....but again questions asked and ignored ...guessing if you play on multiple servers you are now out of luck you need to pick one ..also where is the mac installer or has settlers become a windows 10 64 bit game only?

I've been happily playing since May 2013 and have effectively been barred now for using linux???
Nothing, NOTHING happy about that!
I made it to the game but the map is half loaded - some objects missing. Will probably fix itself with re-load.
Everything in-game is smaller, so I can hardly read chat and popup windows atc. Looks like the client has higher resolution than what I normaly use on my laptop to be able to see. Any way resolution of the client can be changed?
Where is the Linux version?

I can run only 1 instance of the standalone browser. So I can't play on both servers like I usually do (European English and Czech). Any possibility how to do it (except 2 computers, that is what I know ;-) ). Edit: Solved.
Edit: Nevermind. It makes sad people angry.
Edit: Is it possible to run current flash based version (until the end of the year of course) or the new standalone is the only one since now?
Edit: It seems the first run is slow, but then it starts really fast and runs smoothly. Everything tested on 64 bit Windows 10 Home.

It downloads, but when I press the play now button it just goes to the download screen, I have tried logging in & out but nothing works. I play via the ubisoft login & via a facebook login, neither will work.
I get the install page, then after it installs I get the download successful screen with a close box, then nothing.
I have found the program on my pc but when I click to open & run I get a box saying This app can't run on your pc

It downloaded successfully and I can play on Ares server but when I try to play here on Newfoundland server, it won't open the game. Here's the message I keep getting: https://snipboard.io/vZ4iXF.jpg
It doesn't matter whether I still have Ares server open on the client or not. I've tried both ways and I keep getting that error message. I know I'm logged in but the client just won't open my game here.

window loads up the game very slowly - if you click anywhere on it while loading it will say 'not responding'

Having the same issue

I've had to install/uninstall/reinstall a few times tbh so hang in there!
Also make sure you authorised the pop-ups/redirections for TSO on your browser before you click on Start. That sorted it out eventually for me although the loading (blue screen) took ages to clear...
bye bye settlers until you have something workable for anyone not going through hoops ....

Argh, not working. Installed, but it won't open. Followed all instructions, successful download, but that is it, then game just will not open.
When will the mac client be available ? Soon is not really a very precise date.... just asking as Christmas Event is around the corner :-(

i cant get past the message " canot update the client" can anyone help
It works for me - so far. Thought trying out excelsior makes the game crash, and could not start it again. Worked after I restarted computer. Will stay far away from excelsior for now.
Argh, not working. Installed, but it won't open. Followed all instructions, successful download, but that is it, then game just will not open.
You have to be very, very patient as it takes forever to load. Even when the game looks to be up and running you can't click on much for a few minutes as it's still loading.

Same problem here " cannot update the client" after step 8, not loading game (step 9)
When you click on 'Play Now', it will take you to the 'Download Client' page, even if you've already downloaded and installed. DO NOT click on 'Download' again, just wait for the pop up to open, it can take some time.

True, I closed the first instance down and on the 2nd run (once loaded) it's much quicker. I'm also on 64 bit Windows 10 Home.
There is a problem jumping between island doesnt always do it and it did this on the test server see that was ignored as its here...sometimes when going visiting another island it will just have the loading map box up and wont change only way out of it is to close the app and restart which wont straight away because it has to completely close down first

Frozen or just very slow to load? You have to give it plenty of time and not randomly click on stuff.
Interesting, I think its a pity you always jump back to the download page as it raises the temptation to click download again.
I had been using the new client on the test server with no recent problems.
Downloaded the client on Newfoundland and installed ok, answered all the questions as suggested on your thread. After clicking play I get a window opening on the middle of the screen that contains an out of focus logo 'The Settlers Online' with an out of focus building behind it. A few seconds later I get the white window come up as seen by others here saying I cannot update the client and suggesting check log in etc etc. This is exactly the same thing I had downloading the client on the test server a couple of weeks back. When I tried again a few hours later everything worked fine, am hoping the same thing will happen here.
I went back to the test server to compare and noticed that when logging onto the game on the test server I also see the window with out of focus The Settlers Online and the out of focus building but after about a second another window opens with the 'Harman' logo and the game loads successfully and I am currently logged in quite happily on the test server.
I will shut the test server occurence down and try again on Newfoundland but, apart from hoping the Newfoundland login works later I would like to ask if you can run the test server and Newfoundland server simultaneously?

So, after playing this game for many years, now I cant get in the game to play...
I have tried so many times now and I spent 2h to somehow solve this issue and I cant...
I am playing game every day for at least 4h and I cant now...
Is there any easier and more simple guide how to solve it as I followed instructions and nothing happend? Thank you..

Yeah terrible communication even after weeks of people asking for a confirmation based on various posts and the test server client...
what should we do? in a few days event will start...and we need to prepare explorers for searches...

Crash and Burn. Excelsior is dead. Add a few crystals, push the button and oops. I can see chat scrolling and island animations still playing, but UI unresponsive.
Then took four attempts to restart using new client - would lock on the downloading splash at about the point I would expect the island to start rendering.

Hya Snow, you are not alone. From what we have picked up so far, Mac users are stuck until next year:
''Guild mate got a message from BB and looks like no settlers for Mac users till January! NOTE2: MacOS: We'd like to make further optimisations and polish to the Mac Client, we're aiming to launch it in early January. Currently, only the Windows client is available. We sincerely apologize for the delay.' ''
Also seems that if you are using a pre windows 10 version you are stuck, looks like if not 64 bit then stuck, Linux are stuck and Steam are stuck. Doubtless there are more

I have tryed to open link with other clients such as zip and pdf software. Im getting nowhere...

You had lots of time to figure out how you would make this work and are doing this in the end of 2020 just before start of an event....
Before you make such a mayor upgrade make sure everyone is able to play again not only windows players...

Doesn't work. I went through the whole procedure as per your guide three times, used Opera and Chrome. Pop up box says "Your client could not be updated" and that's it!

It would have been nice to have some clear and concise information - the 'Downloadable Client Now Available!' news item makes the new client seem optional to a native English speaker.
When I started played from Steam a few weeks ago it would have been nice if they suggested using a browser instead of my wasting all that time.
If they know that Steam is not going to work then why not give a migration mechanism?
For lots of people it doesnt work. Thats how a company works these days, put something together, doesnt need to test on other platforms and pc's, and they are wondering why they are loosing customers.
Got "something went wrong" box too, win 7, I ws not installing it with the admin login. However, after clicking "OK" with that "something went wrong box", game started loading in that new game window and seemed to work fine.

No Ubuntu install? I guess I have been locked out of TSO now. I hope not permanently.
Please release official Ubuntu 20.04 install guide for TSO. What corrections to do in WIne, how to set it up and so on. The usual.
Please create Linux guide fast and give an update about it on main page soon.

There has been a message on the Steam TSO Community web page - part of which reads:
The Steam version will shut down on the 31.12.2020. However, we are able to offer you an TSO account de-partnering from Steam. This will allow you to access your home island with all it's progress via our website.
Please get in contact with our support team as soon as possible, if you want to make use of it.
Nothing about is not working at the moment.

I am using LinuxMint Mate and found out that I can no longer play the game. Congratulations Ubisoft!
I cannot find the quote now - obviously been retrospectively edited - but BB_Traffer promised continuity regardless of how we connect. That promised has been broken. They had been promising a mac and Linux interim client since the move to unity was announced. Now Mac users are abandoned till January and will potentially miss out on the best event of the year. Linux users have had their promises quietly erased and are now left without a game. This is shameful. Roll back the update and let us log in with our browsers until flash dies on 12th Jan.

In the meantime I realized that the Client actually follows the correct resolution of my screen. The reason text is bigger in browser is that I CTRL+ the TSO page before starting the game.

Can you please make this Linux (Ubuntu Mint) compatible?
Sorry just tried it but download went OK, and installation appeared to go OK but when I tried to play the game the appears to start but then a pop-up appears "Your client could not be updated Please make sure to start the game via the website .......". I am using Windows 10 and Firefox (also tried it on Chrome) in an account that is not administrator. To be honest I'm not impressed at the moment as the old non-browser game worked fine.
Chat not working, load it and then lost connection (no chat server available) and then reload again

Until yesterday, I successfully played on three of your servers, two European and one US (Zeus). As of today, I cannot log in to any.
I tried to follow the instructions but to no results. I would ask someone who speaks Serbian, Croatian or Bosnian to contact me, to try to continue with the game in which I reached 70 and 71 level on all three servers.my mail is manojlovic.ne@hotmail.com

I'm a Mac player, been playing since 2013 when I played the game during an interview at BB HQ in Dusseldorf. I have a Windows 10 machine but it's a work laptop and I can't install random .exes on it without having IT come and yell at me. I have premium and a PFB running right now, if I'm locked out of the Xmas event I doubt I'll come back in the new year.

I've had a couple of 1 Day Premium boosts appear, is this in regards to the issues (although mine is working fine)?
With the download the "client folder" is not being installed? any ideas!

In my first downloading attempt the .exe file went to a location where I had downloaded files yesterday. I had to track it, delete it, empty PC's trash can, turn off Pc, turn on Pc and download again ... this time it went to the right spot it was supposed to. So far running fine
Not certified by Microsoft so won't install on Windows 10 running in S mode.
Don't really want to convert my version of Windows so this is going to exclude me from the game.

:mad:Well, playing on chromebook is impossible till april... and even my windows 10 is not starting the app... So cold turkey stopping this game after years of playing... Not sure if I will come back. Thx BB for this great xmas gift.... :mad:

been trying to get loaded all day but keep getting an error message saying missing file please try and download again missing file is api-ms-win-core-processthreads-l1-1-1.dll any help please frustrated player :)

Windows 10 x64, my resolve. delete everything you have d/loaded for settlers and uninstall all, reboot.
Load PC and LOGOUT of admin mode, d/l new client, scroll to it and make sure you have client folder there if not don't continue, reboot if ness, now you might have to delete/change a folder in the cliient folder to get it to work but i'm sure BB will tell you all about this.
Load game and enjoy.

Please share how you solved the multi-server run. More people might have the same issue. Me included :p
The lack of "client folder"
I did intsall it with a Guest and Normal account the folder was there in both accounts and still doesnt work. Also I tried it with an Admin account and its the same :(

According to the guide I can't download the client as an administrator because it won't start. So BB, how do I download and run the client when all I have is administrator rights?

If we can't get this to work before the event starts then there will be in-game penalties for not starting on time.
This is really painfully poor and if you can't get things like this to work without so many issues EVERY time you do something then it's another fed-up loyal player you've lost because after 6 years of playing it looks like I'm going to have to find something else to occupy my free time because it's doubtful I'll come back.

go to the download location you installed the client check to make sure the folder is there named "The Settlers Online" make sure you see the following https://prnt.sc/w5nsue then check the folder named client check inside for the file called client.swf swap it with one from some who the game is working for or download mine https://easyupload.io/rc6k2p once you swapped close all reboot and try the app again it should work hopefully

Unable to log on using Chrome and Windows 10 Pro, 32-bit. After downloading, and choosing the "always allow" option after set up, when I press "play now" the screen flashes but nothing else happens.
goodmorning did new wersion still no work?
1) Need to reload in between starting adventure and sending troops (click the general to send to adv. island... screen gets stuck with background overlay)
2) Need to reload to be able to collect (receive) my adventure loot once returning from a finished adventure.
3) Excelsior doesn't show which items you received (they just go in the star menu without being able to check what I got !!! eg. crystals don't go to star and I cant see how many I won so you could and probably are just not giving any!!)
4) It takes up to and sometimes over 15 minutes to register buffs applied on a friend's island (which is annoying for several quests)
Then there is the (non)personal fact that half the players are unable to login!!!
It kinda makes a joke out of your pretty comments of how much you (BB in general, Trafffer personal and mods specifically) appreciate our commitment to the game.
And last but not least, isn't it kinda bad timing to run an update (that clearly isn't working for everyone) before leaving on holiday?!?

I had the same issue. I had to change the settings in my browser properties, under compatibility
Could you give a bit more detail exactly which settings you changed please?

this is what i have been reading 11 pages for , first mention of being on legacy account . im actually scared to press the download - i press the play now and it just refreshes the download screen . im on legacy and can not link it to ubi account until after the 28th decemeber .
i want to know if im going to be locked out as im on a legacy account when i download the new client . not the clearest of answers from BB sadly :(

wont get a clear answer from BB at all utter failure on all counts hitting a kill button with out so much as a mention till its done while knowing instantly going remove an awful lot of the client base days before a much looked forward to event indeed was going be the last hurrah for several until unity sorted

following the instructions are hard as its in german but im guessing. when installing the file, it comes up with an error. actually words are error opening file for wwriting

All Steam users are locked out. Not a single word from BB about it. The few desperate people who post on Steam TSO discussions only know anything because a few of us players post there too. Shameful really.
They knew Mac, Linux and Steam be issues going in, but done anything to cover it? Of course not.
On STEAM, in Library under TSO, there's a post that STEAM will discontinue TSO on 31/12/2020, but you can contact support for a de-partnering account that will run on the STEAM website. It wasn't clear wether they meant TSO support or STEAM support, but I logged a ticket with TSO support and await their response.
Looks like BB staff are enjoying their weekend while the gaming world struggles with their client. Not a single response from BB since client launch.
Client seems not reliable, sometimes loads first time, sometimes it does not, sometimes freezes midway loading and needs to be reloaded.
Just a note about login issues: FB, Legacy or UBI login work as usual, that's how you log into your account - TSO web in browser. It's different issue then client. Once you are logged in, than you click PLAY and can start having issues with the game itself. These are two different steps, two different problems. Hope it helps somebody.

Yes I know. Am still waiting for TSO support to get back to me. And yes it is TSO support you should contact. My point was that BB ahve not been very clear with this. Also noone is actaully advising Steam players what they should do. Only me and some other woke players who read forums and feed back info are actually informing people who may or may not even know these forums exist. Basically, Steam players are just locked out.

Finally got there and it seems to be working okay.
I don't show hidden files and folders by default so at first I couldn't find the AppData folder. Once I was able to navigate to that it made things a little easier.
Like others I didn't have the Client folder installed following the download. I uninstalled and reinstalled the download a number of times with no joy then it somehow created the Client folder but it still didn't work. It didn't have the client.swf file that Hades provided (thanks).
I tried downloading the swf file from Hades' link but as I am now using Edge as my browser it kept getting blocked as 'unsafe'. I reverted to IE11 and was able to download it and save it to the Client folder, navigated to as shown by Kris.
Thanks to Hades for the file and the screenshot, to Kris for the navigation path, to Allillo for the other screenshot and no thanks whatsoever to BB for making this a pain-in-the-arse experience. I am now able to once again visit Northisle and hopefully some impatient children and bitter adults will have some nice toys and gifts this Christmas.
Personally speaking, I think BB ought to gift us a couple of thousand presents as a sign of goodwill to make up for the all hassle the download is causing.

Just for the record: Farmerama is running Flash web, Unity web and Unity client simultaneously. They are supporting Flash Web till January 11. They even have nice 23 days countdown timer - enough time for Christmas event. Can't see a single reason why TSO guys could not implement both flash web play and flash client simultaneously. Easy enough to do and that would make for nice Christmas event for many who are now frustrated and unable to play. And I think it can still be done - it should not take much work - but TSO people would have to be at work to see what they have done and show some effort in fixing it.

I am not the greatest with computers but I have annoying habit of reading when something doesnt work till i find a way for it to work so I am glad so many are getting on would annoy the hell out of me if i couldnt..
That being said after reading more this program is 64 bit meaning it will only work on whatever version of windows you have its its 64 bit so if you have windows 8 64 bit it should work etc if you have windows 10 32 bit it wont... why bb deployed a 64 bit app and why it couldnt do a 32 bit is beyond my knowledge if they had then any windows pc could play the 32bit version....i know you can upgrade a 32bit operating system to a 64 bit but ppl would need to look at that at their own risk

Wine doesnt work with this exe file, and VM / Windows bloat / spyware 10 not getting installed here.

I got in. All is fine. I'm on Windows 10 and Chrome, had the "Could not update client" message and used fixes in post number 112, 120 (and 128 helped)
I'm in global chat right now, and there are MAC players in. There's fixes for LINUX too. STEAM should have a fix soon. Don't give up.

Steam wont be fixed and the game will be removed from there.

I was able to open it yesterday, sent explores picked up collectibles .... then few hours later I was unable to anything else, I got a rotating hourglass in whatever I tried to do.
Now today it starts to open but them closes itself :(

The Client folder never appeared for me so I created it manually and copied just the client.swf file from Hades into it. Took a couple of attempts to launch the client, but I could see the it was copying other files into the Client folder, so the update was working now. Eventually got into the game.
As mentioned elsewhere, the first launch takes a while and the client shows "Not responding" several times. Just left it and it completed.
Thanks to everyone for the crowd-sourced debugging. I swear BB do this deliberately. Release a broken client, disappear for the weekend, let the user-base fix it and roll in Monday with an update...

We will do our best to enable you to continue playing with as few issues as possible and we will also try to get the Unity Version up and running as soon as possible.

hi should the new client work with "windows 7 ultimate" mine just flashes screen on clicking play, and no " Harmen pops up. numerous clicks and wait ,nothing happens.

All it takes is to get an exe that works on Wine on Ubuntu 20.04 and almost all distros will be able to run it in one way or another.

Story short. We all were dreading 31st december and here BB kicked us out from their server already on 18th december.
At least TSO survives and with new client there will be new content to welcome new players.
Unfortunately the TSO just became Windows 10 exclusive game... :(

Finally got it working on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.
Had to create Client Folder, download SWF from guys here (Thanks Hades!)
Still wouldnt work.
But created a new account, logged in, logged out.
Could then log in with my original account
But lost out on gems from daily login, shocked at lack at response from BB. Community here are great though trying to help others out.

In my haste to get everything done, client downloaded, I then manged to uninstall it. (don't ask, don't know). Now unfortunately I can't get on at all.

Check out the German forum, the BB there has done a load of answers to users questions, none on here, US, or French servers.

If you have win7 you have not installed all recommended or optional windows updates, probably vc++ redist updates

I feel your pain Sue, but I am afraid this has been the case through out this game. On the odd occasion when the customers that they do respect, dare I imply their countrymen and women, start getting more vocal, and force their hand into doing the job with a bit more reverence to their customer base, then it improves temporarily for all the customer base, but only temporary.
I stopped investing real money into this game quite sometime ago because I saw this and was disgusted that they were getting away with it. It became more of an issue than their obvious inability to code their own game with any degree of competence. ( Which I was considering as a valid reason not to continuing to support financially for their poor quality of work. I mean in any other business I could return faulty goods and get a refund, in a online game you don't get that option. Bad workmanship it seems will continue to get rewarded!! )
When I saw the announcement by our community manager with the instructions of the client download not even bothering to translate the instructions from German on an EN server forum, I knew exactly where I stood as a valued player and customer.
I guess forum rules only apply to some:
Please make sure you speak English on the forum and in the default in-game chat channels. Use of other languages can result in a temporary ban as we need to know that what is said respects the rules of the game.
Once again though the TSO community has stepped into the breach , many thanks to Hades8840, Norton_c, Mannerheim and so many others who have stepped into help. You are all treasures and put BB to shame. I sincerely hope you are all still around when /if they do the move to unity as we will surely need you then as well. Merry Christmas TSO Community and Bah Humbug to BB.

well have got it up and running following these links running on a win 7 64 bit with edge had to copy in the whole client folder as was missing it also copied in the client file from hades so thank you for posting this and to every one who helps on here.

I managed to fixed the issues I had with legacy login and get the new client to run on Linux (Pop!_OS 20.04). This potentially would also work for Mac users.

1. Login using UPlay (create a new account if necessary), but don't finish registration
2. Cancel the registration (click complete registration at the top and then click cancel registration)
3. Login using legacy (it magically works now for some reason?)
4. (Optional (not really)): Link UPlay account to legacy account to avoid issues in the future.

Requirements:
- PlayOnLinux (4.3.4 in my case) (https://www.playonlinux.com/en/)
- Wine 5.0.3 64-bit (probably? I tried with 5.20 and 5.19, they didn't seem to work) (http://wiki.playonlinux.com/index.php/Managing_Wine_Versions#:~:text=The%20tabs%20for%20 x86%20and,Wine%20repository%20for%20POL%2FPOM.)
- Maybe winbind? I installed this at some point because of an error I was seeing, not sure if it did anything (sudo apt install winbind, or something similar)
1. Install the client into a new namespace in PlayOnLinux. (for me this created a shortcut named 'The Settlers Online' in PlayOnLinux)
2. In any browser with a network log (e.g. Chrome), login to the TSO website and click the 'Play Now' button.
3. Find the link starting with 'tso://' in the network log of the browser and copy it. (https://developers.google.com/web/tools/chrome-devtools/network)
4. From a command line, run:

Make it easier to launch the game:
The original post mentions using xdg-open to allow launching the game from your regular browser just using the 'Play Now' button. It didn't work for me but it basically says:

then dual boot windows and play so simple, you could all be playing now instead of complaning if you installed wincan x x64
Reboot computer to resolve all issues? How typical of windows os. One of the reason I use Linux from 2007. I do not have windows partition. I do not have any dual boot. Plus last time I fought the grub 2, it was a huge pain.
With Wine you should be able to run windows programs without rebooting. The whole issue, how to install it on Wine, so there are no issues.
BB help? This is 3rd day I can not log into TSO. Linux guide please?

Got a guild mate who was able to login yesterday and earlier today. When he came back this afternoon to login he was told he has been blocked for trying to login too many times. He waited 20mins but still gets same message. Anyone else the same or got suggestions?
BB, please fix the installer or upgrade the install guide and provide info about running the app.
I am trying to help a friend, running W7, and i need to manually install different files that are not supplied with the installer.
I had to install vc_redist.x64 but the app does not launch. And the event starts tomorrow morning.
In the end the app, does not launch. :|

I managed to fixed the issues I had with legacy login and get the new client to run on Linux (Pop!_OS 20.04). This potentially would also work for Mac users.

How to potentially fix legacy login issues:
1. Login using UPlay (create a new account if necessary), but don't finish registration
2. Cancel the registration (click complete registration at the top and then click cancel registration)
3. Login using legacy (it magically works now for some reason?)
4. (Optional (not really)): Link UPlay account to legacy account to avoid issues in the future.

How to get the client working on Linux:
Requirements:
- PlayOnLinux (4.3.4 in my case) (https://www.playonlinux.com/en/)

- Maybe winbind? I installed this at some point because of an error I was seeing, not sure if it did anything (sudo apt install winbind, or something similar)
1. Install the client into a new namespace in PlayOnLinux. (for me this created a shortcut named 'The Settlers Online' in PlayOnLinux)
2. In any browser with a network log (e.g. Chrome), login to the TSO website and click the 'Play Now' button.
3. Find the link starting with 'tso://' in the network log of the browser and copy it. (https://developers.google.com/web/tools/chrome-devtools/network)
4. From a command line, run:

thank you so much. i could not log into the game. i was very annoyed.
I downloaded, installed, swf file in the Client directory, click on play and error message:

It's 12 noon now in Germany, and there are no updates on the homepage, no official posts on the forums by anyone from BB. Not even a 'we are aware of the problems and are working to resolve them' non-update.
This is just shockingly bad.

the game was running yesterday and early this morning and now when i try to start it i only see the client in my proccess window (task manager) but it never start the client in a window so i can play.
This is getting really annoying, also had common issue with "unable to update client" after patch friday.
have all from BB gone on Holiday?

1. Legacy Login Issue
If you cannot log in using "Legacy Login" with a legacy account, please try this:
1) Open: https://www.thesettlersonline.com/en/homepage
2) You will see 3 Login options: Legacy Login | Ubisoft Login | Facebook Login - please click "Facebook Login" instead of "Legacy Login"
3) Now go back, to the main page (you can use the "back" button). Now please click Legacy Login and try to log in.
2. Steam Players
If you are a Steam user, please contact our support team so we can disconnect your TSO profile from Steam, allowing you to merge (your account will be "Legacy" after this procedure). Support Team will provide you all the instructions.
3. Client Not Updated

4. I can't get the client to work on Windows 7:
It is possible that you are missing Visual C ++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 (https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=48145)

5. Linux Players

6. MacOS & 32 Bit Windows users
As we said earlier, MacOS client will be available in early January. We will also update our downloadable client to support Windows 32 bit version. It's also scheduled for January.

7. Client Not Responding (Client does not respond)
Please wait, don't click around, after 5-10 minutes the game will load.
8. I have the client installed, but it only sends me to the main page.
Please wait there, in most cases, the request for login/link activation should happen after a few seconds. Otherwise, make sure you are not affected by error 1.
9. Application Blocked
You can play e.g. 1-2 days and suddenly it doesn't work anymore, because something was blocked. In this case, you have to go into your specific antivirus programs and see if our application file from the AppRoamind section was blocked. If yes, you have to unblock/allow it. If necessary, switch off the antivirus program for testing. If you can play without an antivirus program, but not with the active one, then a file is blocked.
We want to apologise for these issues, and we are working hard to update our downloadable client, so we can bring everyone back to the game.

When starting form the website it just reloads the page. When starting the client.exe from Client folder it opens for a second and closes immediately.
The client does not appear in the task manager at all.

I have not hit this issue with the new client yet, but with the old version you could fix it by enabling half res mode (restart game) and then enabling full res again (another game restart).
After all these years, it's goodbye. No Linux support means I can't play anymore. A Windows client to support 'deprecated computer software' isn't the solution. Why on earth BB decided on this path is a mystery to me. If they had a brain cell amongst them they would have developed a browser-based version that could work cross-platform. Am unsure from description, did you properly install entire client? Because it is not enough to just have 1 file and 1 folder. When you click play does it still ask if you want to run the TSO application because you can browse for where the client file was installed, especially if you created your own folder it may nto be pointing in the right direction. When I was trying out the testclient sometimes I had to manually pick the app so I ran the correct version.

At first, I was disheartened, but after some thought I realised that windows does not care if you do not activate it, it will display the watermark, and nag, and not allow desktop customisations.. I can live with that.
I downloaded the latest windows 2020 home, 5.8 gigabytes later I had an ISO. From that I made a virtual machine using virt-manager giving the minimum requirements of 4G ram, 2 cores and 40G disk. Installed windows to the VM, turning off all the helpful stuff. It wanted a microsoft account, which I had. After install was complete, I disconnected the microsoft account by making a local login for windows. Using edge, went to the TSO site and logged in with the uplay account, which took me to the download button. Downloaded the app, there may have been a warning but I ignored it. Ran the app, hmm nothing.. Then I remebered.. the web browser does all the connections work, and the client uses it, so the browser is logged in, the play button is pressed and a short time later the client starts. The browser can be minimised, but not closed.
Fantastic, it was working.
I then cloned the VM, so now I had 2 exactly the same.
The second is used to access another server, with a legacy login that wont transfer, it only makes a new account..
On the secon VM I use firefox and do the same as the first, only for the second server character.
Now, i can put each VM on a separate desktop and tab between them.
Thats has been my wasted 5 hours of getting it working for a non windows user.
I imagine a windows person could used virtual box and do the same thing.

Thanks for your efforts. I just keep on wondering one thing. Is it really that hard/too expensive to make an app image or QT program for us Linux users? I have seen much smaller projects with tighter budgets that are able to do that.
Not everybody can run a VM on their machine. And not all are comfy running Wine/PlayonLinux (security reasons at least in Wine, not sure if PlayonLinux sandboxes).

Are you saying that you manually created the folder? If so then nobody advised you to do that, delete the folder and follow the suggestions at the following:-

has anyone actually got the game operational since BB_traffers additional notes on the announcement page? since it states that a file is missing from the installation i want to know if that has actually been added to the installation so that if i try to install it now that i won't have to follow the additional steps identified which i really dont feel confident about doing.

Unfortunately at this point they can't. The servers have switched over to another "technology". In theory you could take it down and go back, but then nothing will work for those that now have moved on to the client and we get the same problems just backwards. It would also be kinda risky to leave it until the absolute latest available date.
The Flashplayer isn't "not working" the interim client is Flashased just running on the server side instead of clientside. If I understand it right. The problem is they have changed the login procedure as well.
While maybe it would some, we are still facing the Flash Cliff for 31.12. By then most people cannot run Flash in their browsers and we are back to this. One major issue here is that they are starting the Xmas event too. They even moved it later but did not implement the new client earlier??? Insane. If we had a week or two to sort ourself onto the interim client it would be somewhat less urgent. In fact this should all been done in november.

I am tired so I may be overlooking it, but they only speak of a Mac version. Not Linux.
Only thing they say about Linux is that there are some unofficial ways of getting it working, suggested by players... which I find really sad that it is appearantly up to the players. However the suggestions made in order to make it run on Linux are not for me sadly.

I've tried to run the game everyday, many times per day, i've followed the instructions as best i can...i have no idea how to not make me admin on this laptop, which i'm the only user on..alls i get is 'could not update client' message....i quit, 8 years effort and many hundreds of pounds wasted...lesson i've learnt here, just stick to xbox games, as this bullshit does't happen on xbox....

me too - i cannot understand why this downloadable client was so full of bugs. i just hope they do email all of the players when the new version is available on unity and that it doesn't take more IT literacy than i have to get it working. however maybe this enforced absence from my laptop will help my rsi to get better! if anyone who is able to get on and is on sandycove please can you let my guild (WENS) know that i have not deserted them but the game has deserted me - hopefully not for too long.
if anyone from bb is reading this then please can you advise whether the file that was supposedly missing which was causing all the problems has been added into the current version of the downloadable so that i can start the whole process again as i do not have the IT skills to follow your new troubleshooting advice?
Actual feeback for the interim client. Not good. It now leaks memory *all the time*. It only used to when swapping zones. And the reset of general's window is worse than ever. Can barely use it now at all.

From feedback I'm getting at least the Italian language support is telling players TSO do not move accounts. This is patently untrue. So how are Steam players going to convince TSO support to do what you are telling players TSO support is supposed to be doing?

I have issue with installing Wine on Ubuntu 20.04. It wants to uninstal GIT program and I need it for work. So until there is no work around from Blue Byte for this Wine issue, I will have to abstain from playing TSO. I may try WMVARE virtualization though.

You'll find vmware will chew memory like a starving dog on graphics based games ::skull::
Perhaps if BB bothers to get unity setup properly they should use their brains & ask to be listed on play on linux ( POL) or Lutris.......after all its free
Or you can install POL & work through adjusting wine that way , far quicker .........

Just for the record as it might help someone. Yesterday I needed to clear and restart everything to make this bloody virus running our computers (Windows) work again. After that I experienced half of the problems mentioned by others. Couldn't log in using legacy account (was constantly returning "accept cookies" message), could not load the client (can't update client message), client closed itself (critical fault caused client to close), could not get in the game (game froze on second loading screen) and some other weird behavior. It all sorted itself out after about a half an hour or an hour of wiggling around, "kicking" computer from all sides, repeating, restarting etc. etc.
So just closing all browser windows (I usually have several tabs/windows opened with things I research or need to return to), restarting computer, clearing browser data and cookies caused all this malfunction. In my early attempts to fix this I also uninstalled and reinstalled the client, but I don't think this mattered, in fact it made things worse for a while and introduced that "cannot update" bug. I suppose somebody with IT background could explain why this is happening and how to fix it properly, not like me wiggling about. I believe several have got into this trouble before when things worked and then stopped working - suspect clearing cache & stuff was the cause behind that?
EDIT: And legacy login doesn't remember my mail address any more (option ticked on).

There is defiantly a bug in the web site where it no longer creates the cookies needed by the legacy login option, you can work around this by clicking on the facebook login option and once that page loads click the back button in your browser, legacy will work again after that.
I suspect this is also why it doesn't remember the email in the legacy login, the cookie is not created/updated anymore.

hi bb traffer i was playing ok on settlers today logged in and out twice no problem then when i tried 6pm got your client could not be updated/or i get you need to clear catch /or loads to screen then nothing pleases help me thankyou :)
