ALL credits for this solution go to my dear friend jutaky who doesn't play anymore but generously gave his time to cure my witdrawal symptoms.
If you post this anywhere else please include his name, thanks.

I use LinuxMint 19.3 (tricia)

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt install aria2

~$ aria2c --version

mkdir ~/tso
cd ~/tso

~$ cd ~/tso
afke@afke-Latitude-E6420:~/tso$

aria2c -x 3 https://az792536.vo.msecnd.net/vms/VMBuild_20190311/VirtualBox/MSEdge/MSEdge.Win10.VirtualBox.zip

open up another terminal window
sudo apt install virtualbox

unzip MSEdge.Win10.VirtualBox.zip

find virtualbox in menu and open

from top left File > Import Appliance
find your home folder, open the "tso" folder, select the .ova
select appliance settings

from the Virtual Disk Image path replace "VirtualBox VMs" with "tso" so that it reads /home/username/tso/MSE..... etc

click Import from bottom right, it will take awhile as it unpacks the appliance

virtual windows 10 will start
proceed to open the edge browser and navigating to the tso website for the download of the TSO client exe

IEUser is the preconfigured user, just click it
use Passw0rd! (that is a zero)

lateron the "tso" folder can be deleted and everything related to this project is destroyed freeing up all the disk space
