I miss them.

Any tips for maintaining a guild and any sense of community without the little green dots, and a functional chat window?

Yes so do I - I am not even happy about the new feature - the fact that your own avatar is now blue, I never had a problem finding myself, would rather be able to see who is online. It does not help that the chat is broken a big part of the time, you never know if chat is empty because it does not work - or because no one is there.
