Nothing to improve the game then, except the broken bits should load faster, chat will still be broken, mail will still be broken, star menu and sending specialists will still be broken. Seems easier to fix the bits that hardly anyone uses.

Right now if you open a building window, then open another one, and another one and so on all the windows will stack... will this update fix this? so when u open new window the old one closes.
Also, make it possible that when u press escape the building window will close, this doesn't work on all the buildings so pls make it available for all

Guys - do not expect miracles nor put the yardstick so high you will always be disappointed. A short list can be good or bad- if performance makes the game realistically playable for people then that alone would warrant maintenance.

They will put in what is ready and tested (well we hope) and they usually also put stuff in thats not on the list so it is a question of wait and see. shooting em down before the maintenance is kinda pointless

Thank you for the update, I know there are complaints about the update list being short, but I am excited by an update. I know the dev team has been working very hard to restore the game, one step at time.

Can you log into the game to check for me if the tooltip of Marshalls while traveling is a current problem for how many people? I can't login.

If you're a coder, scrolling though code, and spot an obvious typo bug, that takes 2 seconds to fix, should you just leave it for another day whilst you look for an elusive Star window closing bug, or correct the type? Yes it probably affects 3 people across all the servers, but every bug fixed now is one less to fix later.

I'm guessing/hoping that "Performance of the UI" means "stop the game from trying to murder cpus".
If so, I'd have been happy with just that on the list.

Some items are simple fixes that get done in between stuff. I know if i have like 30 mins spare i will usually get something simple off my to-do list - something i know i can finish in that time instead of starting up something new and then spending almost as much time the next day picking up where i left it.

I presume BB programmers will do the same to some extent so beside the important stuff, some other stuff gets fixed and pushed to live as well

Other than that, not all the team can work on the same problems, so some will do other stuff including stuff that is trivial compared to the game breaking stuff.

Just take it in your stride and hope they use their time most effectively. Remember that it is not in their interest not to focus on fixing the problems and the team will know that as well. It is frustrating and we can curse bad choices but we are where we are and have to hope their sense of urgency and prioritization are close to ours.

We will see in a few hours what they managed in the last few weeks nad hope they will have a weekly cycle of updates to get us where we need to be

well, the new version is exactly the same as test, every time i get to island and before any thing loads i get the "connection to server lost please wait while we resolve this issue, i am on a fast connection running windows 7 here, at home good connection w10 same problem.

Woo Hoo [not]!

I could NOT get to the test system as it kept giving me a "connection to server has been lost" error while initialising the game... Then the graphic of the settler would swing his hammer at the PC until I got another message to click ok to reset.

This has just been implemented into production, and now I get the same joyous connection lost sequence and no game! Same as Harlequin_1963 (https://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/38524-Feedback-Changelog-04.08.2021?p=365386&viewfull=1#post365386) above

<sigh>!!!! Gotta love "progress".

I cant Log into the game and have Rebooted Computer, cleaned memory, logged out, Logged in many times. Man with hammer and message to click ok to reset.

UPDATE:

Eventually , having tried Opera GX ( cos it was best before update ) , Edge , and then back to Chrome , I got in on third attempt ....... I don't know if this is therefore
1. Browser problem
2. Just a server side problem
or
3. murphys law at work.

Interesting point!

I guess it depends on how clear and structured they have coded. What if that "typo" actually caused a whole block of code to not execute but be handled by an error handler instead? You casually fix the typo and keep searching through the code and find what you think needs to be fixed for that, but testing now shows other "unforeseen" anomalies have surfaced!

We do not know how modular they have coded, or how rigorously they tested each module, or if they have done it all in spaghetti-style with long, rambling code and half-baked error routines.

Based on the lack of information we get, how vague "plans" are when they are published, and how little forward advice we get of implementations (if any), it would seem that the coding might well be spaghetti-styled and "fixes here" are "implementing problems there"......

the game still looks like *hit, you still need a telescope to see the graphics, it's still slow, and i mean molasses slow…
i can't believe that with 8 extra months on top of the 4 years bb had to port the game to unity, this is the end product, Christ…
ubisoft really needs to clean house, these dumb incompetent devs should not be allowed near a computer.
i'll be back in 10 years time, maybe by then the game will at least load at a regular speed like it used to.
and please people, stop thanking bb for useless updates, this game is broken, and all due to incompetence, so don't thank other people for mediocrity, lest you be rewarded with garbage like this unity port

Game is more playable now, big improvement!
First 20-30 minutes was fairly ok then the zone refresh kicked in and was triggered every 30-60 secs and game was more or less unplayable again since the game hangs when zone is refreshed. But I guess a relog will solve it until it happens again.
All in all a successful update in my opinion.
Next update maybe things will be even better :)

My questbook keep disappearing, I need to reload game every time that happens and it happens every time..
Very annoying if you do a (guild)quest and your quest is complete 'quest complete' click it but nothing happens

Speed at which game loaded did not seem any different, star menu and mail did seem to load faster and sending specialists does seem to have improved, but a minor bug has come into play, when a geo gets home from finding a deposit, that geo will stay greyed out, but you can re-send on another task

agree with all that's said.
Still can't buff friends isle or mine, trouble loading gens with troops, still takes several clicks to send out explorers, and still getting random building info showing up when clicking explorers etc.
So still no real improvement on game, so shall not be playing at the moment ,needs to improve dramatically.

For me, faster especially for sending out explorers (no longer have to position Star window over the sea & double click) but all the other old irritations which make play cumbersome are still in place. Still I suppose it is progress of a kind.

rebooted some chat there, but now no news shows after action.

5 fixes in a month , after thousands of problems have been sent, they are creating other bugs as they try to fix bugs, going to be a long long time to get this game working as good as "flash":mad:

1. No chat works

2. Game loads exactly as before, blue then green then hills then stumos then slowwwlyyy buildings

3. Still ridiculously slow to send exps, geos and to load generals

Basically a wasted chance - I truly hope this isn't the much promised August update

Fixed huh??? really, you have to be joking, its even worse than before. No chat at all, the island is 99% blue and its basically a waste of time even bothering to come on here to play. As soon at it go in, the server connection was lost, then there was a zone refresh... absolute waste of time.. GET IT RIGHT BB....

just put on blacktree pollen buff, it does not highlight 7x7 buildings just one shows, bad

and afterwards the quest tab does not open

Unable to login, get Connection Issue immediately, when it should actually be taking me into the game. I had the same problem trying to log into the Test Server last two days. :(

Running windows 10, 24 gig ram, 2 gig graphics card. Unity was running ok for me , sure had plenty of bugs but playable for me.
As I said earlier, after Upgrade, I still can't start the Game. Tried many many times. Gets to starting to open, then man with hammer and window to click to refresh client, but then got a big error window pop up.
Not wanting to lose the pop up, I have not screen shot it but have carefully typed it out exact as it appears. :-

I get exactly the same - can't see a bugs thread for it so was worried it was only me. Multiple pcs, multiple browsers, all the same result. Oh and no ticket system either.......

Well island buildings loaded much quicker
explorers sent out much better now
zone refreshed seems to have gone (for the moment)

After trying all I can think of, still getting the same "loss of connection" hassles rather than the game for both test and production, however test2 still works for me..... What's the difference BB?

after long loading it is much better, chat is a bit of a surprise box if working or not.

- gens still jumping around and the red around sometimes is the pre-selected gen
- adding troops sometimes requieres a re-select the gen

Sorry, but nothing has improved at all. In fact it's worse because it's not only still all slow motion, needing several clicks before anything happens, but is now also freezing frequently, and there's no chat or events log.

About connection or chat issues: Please try using "Incognito Mode" in your browser. After successful logging in, the next login should work from the regular tab. We will also do some actions later that should fix this issue.

You can also try this: Clear: 1. Cache 2. DNS 3. Cookies

Hello everyone.

This update focused on the "lag/performance" issue.

By 'Focused', do you mean that they chatted about the problem? because apart from a faster load time (20min instead of 1h30min), nothing has changed!
Total game freeze over and over again.
Are BB still employing the same team of developers that messed it all up? Should they not have been sacked?

Game is unplayable and badly broken. I will not be back until the mess is fixed.

Same here, as soon as my island appears in the browser, man-with-the-hammer kills game.... Happens with Edge, happens with firefox, happens with Chrome. clearing cache, browser history, etc does not work. At least I could logon before the upgrade (but game was not playable).... I prefer to get the clinet back.

I had no problem with the UI before the update, since the update 90% makes the text too big and 75% makes the text too small and there is no way to set it anywhere inbetween

I have tried all of these tricks, any ohter suggestions? Incognito mode does not allow me to enter my username/password to sign into the ubisoft account due to having to accept cookies.

Before the maintenance I had written a list of issues... it had about 30 separate items on it, and I realised I would have to prioritise and adjust my expectations.
After two weeks of playing I felt by far the worst problem was the UI - not being able to use the star menu and quest menu made it unplayable and I was about to give up.

So I am very happy to report that for me the update has made a vast improvement - it's actually playable again! Sending specialists is possible without freezing after every click, and I can use buffs properly.
I've also just noticed that quantities of resources in storage now show when you hover, which is a little thing but it has made me happy.

New issues have arisen which have been mentioned... greyed out specialists in star menu for one. Minor niggle in comparison but needs to be mentioned.
My loading time seems longer, and if I try and visit another island before mine is fully loaded it hangs until I refresh the page. But if that's the price I pay for getting my star menu back so be it :)

So my island look like global warming hit it overnight and everything is flooded. I experienced the connection issues mentioned previously. On top fo that there are a bunch of things that don't work anymore.
Provision House & Rarity PH - broken
Can't send explorers/geos - no pop-up once selected.
Building Menu broken - no pop-up once selected
Concert hall broken - same issue

And the list goes on.
Tried Chrome and Firefox, same results.
Clearing cache and running a cleaner did nothing to improve things.

Trying to be patient but........

I can now log-in to game using a VPN. I don't know the reason why but happy I can.
Windows 10, 24 gig ram, 2 gig graphic card, Memory Cleaner working in Background 24/7

Before comments about the latest upgrade I would like to mention that I like the Graphic Tweaks to the appearance of the screen, trashcan instead of cross in mailbox,
rearranged Items when choosing an item to trade to a friend to name a couple. There are more, subtle but appealing.

The upgrade for ME is a nice improvement. The Explorers can be sent out a lot faster, yes small delays but still much faster before. Buildings open cleaner.
Island scrolls a lot smoother and clicking is more positive than before. Yes I'm comparing to Day 1 Unity.
Generals open cleaner but there is still problems with Generals swapping when loading troops or sending to attack or ticking Generals to send to adventure.
Generals still can't be retreated once 1st fight begins or lot of Generals sent for attacks in one go.
Mailbox is still the same and I have to reload every time I open mail as I get WAIT BOX many times.

There is a Green Dot above my lower avatar but not any of the other players online. Guild Chat does not show history often or no text at all for days.
This is main way of knowing our Guild Friends are online so we can support or help them. NEEDS TO BE FIXED PLZ.
In the Guild Members Info area, tabs don't work. For Guild Admin this is a drag.

Apart from a lot of players not able to load Game (Big Issue really), the latest upgrade has made a big impact to gameplay movement for me.
Lots of small hotfix upgrades will be good for players to see changes happening.
Good work.

So my island look like global warming hit it overnight and everything is flooded. I experienced the connection issues mentioned previously. On top fo that there are a bunch of things that don't work anymore.
Provision House & Rarity PH - broken
Can't send explorers/geos - no pop-up once selected.
Building Menu broken - no pop-up once selected
Concert hall broken - same issue

And the list goes on.
Tried Chrome and Firefox, same results.
Clearing cache and running a cleaner did nothing to improve things.

Trying to be patient but........

Hi All, I am having the same problem with provision houses and the flooding, havent had the courage to try anything else since the upgrade. Also chat no longer works since the upgrade.

Chat no longer works. Combined with the fact that I cannot see who's online and who isn't, trades for star menu cannot be done.
I was wondering if the devs tried to logon as normal users and do some basic tests prior to release the "update".

I strongly believe that this update was done just for the show. Nothing really important changed ... at least for better.

Why can't you reverse to the client version and have the test servers do their job ?

Yep, VPN works to get in but why can you only access it that way?.

Tried Japanese server.. wouldnt let me in.. U.S server and was straight in there.. tried disabling once I was in.. but straight back to no connection.

OK, so that sounds like i better can stay away from the game....
Its now safe sleeping till i log back in again, wich i hope will be soon, but it depends if its a game that can be played or that its unplayable, at this moment its the last...
I'll keep checking here for more updates, hoping for the messages that the game is back...as in really back as it was, not this less then accepable game it is now....

Hi mate

I can't build anything, can't send explorers or geologists. My provision house only has copper on every tab. My whole island won't load - just patches of blue everywhere.

I can't finish quests.

It's 100 per cent worse and I've persevered with not being able to get in all day.

No chat windows at all.

Just moved oil from star to mayors house, then I had enough oil to upgrade marble mason, clicked upgrade, it started then a zone refresh took place and stopped the upgrade, waited for another zone refresh for it to restart but it did not happen, tried a refresh and it still did not restart, now I do not have enough oil to upgrade that building and no more oil in my star, where has my oil gone

Just to chip in with a few data:
Using older gaming laptop with Win 7 and Chrome ......... if that helps anything.

Game loads slower then before update, especially buildings on the island take longer to load.
Star Menu generally works a bit faster but micro freezes and lag still happen, so by far not hassle free. Also picking different gen/exo/geo still happens sometimes, and even the click-through to objects below still happens occasionally. Lag and freezes happen in game in general, but seem to be more frequent when Star Menu is opened. That's for critical issues - still a lot to do.

Obviously other bugs were introduced (like gray stuff in Star Menu, Quest Book not accessible etc.) and dozens bugs from the past still persist, which I will not detail on as they have been reported by others elsewhere multiple times.

Keep working boys, we wanna have fun. :)

Still begs the questions why did they switch to unity when they did with such a broken version of game? ( There is no way on earth that this level of bugs and issues came as a `surprise'.)
Why they did not have a back up solution to reverse the game back to client as a safety net? Basic computer skills always tells us to `back up data' before making changes so if all goes bad we can roll back... Does that mean BB does not even have `basic' computing skills?
As others have said other game companies managed to port their games from flash with barely a hiccup. BB has delayed, delayed and delayed then messed up with first a `interim' client, to give them more time to make the port to `their chosen way forward, to ensure the game into the future'. Fixed the client for some at the exclusion of others. Then switch from the working client ( for those still left ) to this pile of `rubbish', oh and they are working `hard' to fix it, as if we should be grateful for something that should have been done months ago. And working hard means we fixed a few issues and broke some more, like they always do.
Just a suggestion, but before you use the term `improved' you may want to keep in mind a base line of performance based on the last version of the client game that was playable. Perhaps less broken is more appropriate till you reach that level or maybe that does not fit the spin?
Performance: Performance of the UI is less broken ( I shouldn't tempt fate, but you couldn't make it any worse Although some would argue not being able to log in maybe worse )
Performance: Fixed a lockzone issue when accepting books ( Not really got the bookbinder working properly though have you? )
Quest: Fixed the level requirement for the quest “Gold Deposits” ( Really you fixed a quest ... one quest? Working hard, yeah right )
UI: UI scaling settings will no longer reset after restarting the game ( I'm thinking if basic game setting parameters were not tested and stable, what hope for the rest of the game )
UI: Fixed the tooltip of Marshalls while traveling ( OMG There are no words ! )
Yeah your working hard, my dog's fast asleep on the couch and is burning more calories than BB devs are putting into saving what's left of TSO by the look of it. Can't wait for the next update, what will they deem important next time ... we stopped the deer walking on water ... we corrected the quest one last time to Cousin `Theador is scrounging again' You will of course need to allocate an extra five seconds between clicks to accommodate these updates plus reload seven times and clear cache 132 times or in the latter case you won't be able to use the tick box as it will be greyed out.

Ubisoft/BlueByte were caught with their pants down when it seems Settlers Alliance failed dramatically in the first user testing and ultimately went belly up. They then had to draw up a last moment plan for what to do with TSO.
The marketing spin presented to us late last year was how much Ubisoft/BlueByte was investing in us by giving us not just one, but two solutions to continue playing! (a.k.a. "We left the migration way too late, so we need an interim bridging means to limp along while the migration progresses).
All of the bright sparks who did the Flash migrations for everyone else had long since moved on to the latest technologies and were not interested in base-rate contracts working in ancient technologies (not a selling point on any CV!), so Ubisoft/BlueByte had only the dregs and cheap, "still wet behind the ears" coders to work with. (This is rather evident in what we see in the poorly considered functionality of the ported game. It would seem that even the project management and in-house testing had NO idea of the playability criteria for the game).
The client solution needed licensing and who knows how much money paid to Samsung, etc for the enabler to to play a Flash game via the client. It would seem that 3 months was agreed as we were supposed to be on Unity by Easter. This would have been a tough fight to have with upper management, and whoever was managing the migration project was probably backed into a corner and forced to agree to an absurd timeframe to "control costs".
Easter came and went and more licensing and money was required to be directed to Samsung to keep Flash going for another few months. This would have required a screaming match at board level about the poor return of the money spent so far. Whoever was running the migration probably had to sign in blood that they would get the game playable with just the one more extension of licensing to Samsung.
As the end of the further extension to the client licencing approached the question from senior management was probably as simple as, "Is it coded sufficiently so that it is playable?".... The operative word there being "playable", but neither management, nor the poor sods doing the coding could actually quantify what exactly "playable" meant.
The coders who have obviously never played the game were probably quite proud of all the code they had written and how close things looked (not played) to the original game. They would surely answer, "Yes, it's playable!"
The team in charge of managing the migration had already signed in blood that no more extensions of licensing for the Flash client would be required/allowed. They could only respond, "Yes, it's playable!" (With their fingers crossed behind their backs!)
Senior management would then have directed, "Well put it in and make it start paying for all this expense then!"

Probably augmented to the: It either moves to unity or we pull the plug on the whole thing now which gets us to this piece of [censored manure] which they hope to emergency fix to a playable POS before the next management evaluation which might still see the plug pulled and all of us circling the drain

No is the simple answer, I originally worked for a very successful company and then was head hunted by a multinational successful company, and been here ever since.
What I see and have seen from BB is totally alien to me. Bad decisions compounded by even more bad decisions and even worse implementation. It is extremely hard for me to watch this, and believe what I am seeing from within a good business setting, I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. Your right though PharTing, this is not really the fault of the coders ( well not all of it ) But those charged with making the decisions and showing leadership to the team. I concluded a long time ago that within BB these people who are pretty poor at their jobs must be `untouchable' within the company to still be doing such a poor job time and time again. I am still surprised that Ubisoft, as the publisher have not stepped in to give these people a bit of a shake up though, they are being tarnished by association, but there again I hear they have their own issues ;)

Nothing here has changed with the last game update. There is virtually nothing that works as it should. I'm sure the people sitting and making these updates have not understood what it's all about.
I'm getting so tired of this game and the bad excuses they come up with every time something goes wrong during their so - called updates.
It's simply bad still for game provider.
Maybe I should try support ;) I guess their answer will be a usual. Clear browser and bl.a bla. bla. Case closed.

I can't delete buff messages from friends. I can select them all but when i want to delete it nothing happens. Also not after a relog. Also after one hour or less i get out of memory screen and then i have to relog again.

only my mountains are above water
buildings load slower than before
cannot access and buff building
normal building seem to work fine when they are there
geolists and explorers are now impossible to send on missions

I started Storm Recovery for quest and everything succeeded until i had to demolish stones with dynamite. 2 stones i could destroy but the other ones don't show the dynamite but instead a window with a heart and other stuff where the dynamite supposed to be. I played Storm Recovery many times but now i stranded. The adventure is still active on my island and i will try again to demolish the stones tomorow. I logged in and out but nothing helps.

Well, the selection of specialists and appointing them tasks is feeling faster.
Lets hope next you'll take care about the issues with the z-buffer - where one clicks on a specialist or a buff - and gets the window of the underlying production facility.

And one old problem of the UI scaling - when it comes to some comfortable sizes - like +125 - the mailbox top border gets unreachable beyond the top of the screen - so closing the mail needs closing of the whole game.

P.S.
1. The same issue with the quests menu - the top border /and the -x/ cannot be reached - but it closes on Esc.
2. The chat window line gets over the building menu icon.
3. Tried the task assigning windows of the specialists - after the first one the others open too high - but fortinatelly close on Esc.
Verdict: Non-automatic UI scaling is next to unusable, probably because when not automatic some proportion calculations do not take place.

OH SERIOUSLY, so what about the issue of at least getting into the game. It is now 5 days since I have had the hammer man and have not been able to access the game at all. BB_Traffer you asked us to message you, which I did, and whilst I understand you might be inundated with messages from disgruntled players not being able to get into the game I would have thought that BB would have had some sort of team that would be dealing with those messages. I have done all you suggested, cleared cache, logged in incognito and even tried different browsers. No use. I know that in the grand scheme of things that The Settlers Online is not a first world issue, but it is my world issue. Please Please fix this. God knows what has happened to my island in the meantime.

I dont recall any1 saying this was playable. BB are keeping quiet, but I like to think that perhaps they contracted the client version till July expecting Unity to be ready. in all fairness they were then caught between a rock and a hard place. whatever has gone wrong I wish BB would just be open and honest with us. I'm sure we'd all be reasonable and understanding. Anyways...

this is a very positive step forward and although there are still a huge amount of bugs and helpful bits n bobs missing things are looking good for now :)

typically a zone refresh takes place every 30 minutes (except when loading the game, get about 4 in a group). Over a period of 3 days the zone refreshes get closer and by the 3rd day they get to between 20 seconds and 50 seconds apart, this lasts for an hour or two before the refreshes revert back to every 15-30 minutes

TSO still freezes and reolads when I go to another tab in my browser, even if I have TSO in a separate window. And I still have no mail. Not much gaming getting done without trades, loot collecting etc.....

I can log in no problems. The game doesn't crash, just refreshes every time I click on any action and sometimes that action works and sometimes it doesn't.
Playable? well no, not in a million light years is this piece of garbage worth trying to play anymore.
No chat means no trades, no loot spots, no co-op adventures and most of all no complaining (this time with very good reason) in G1.
People who paid, people who had premium running and PFB should be compensated as its all gone to hell in a handcart.
On a personal note I have made some very good virtual friends in G1 and without being too gushing they have helped me laugh through some tough times.
The games true strength was always its community and gameplay that appealed to so many different styles.
That faithful community has been let down and then kicked again when down.
Shame on whomever is responsible. I bid you all a fond farewell, for however long this post remains up. Ta ta.

so after MANY days of the level 0 non island loading with connection server lost and crashing out , it FINALLY sort of loaded my island - well it loaded a swamp with loads of trees and then some of my buildings , i CANT send any explorers or geos as i click them and nothing pops up to give them a send command , and i have NO chat at all , they game is very very unplayable and it is breaking my heart - i miss the game and the chatting with other regulars , please get it back up to speed and usable , i dont want to lose what i have spent a lot of years playing and building up.

The update has stopped my ability to complete basic tasks. I am unable to start the love tree buff. I can hardly run the game. I am showiing patience but there needs to be significant change to allow me to event run missions to completion. Please fix the performance eventually if these problems do not get solved the players will give up.

System is saying hardware accelerator not on, have checked this and it is on. the game loading is still very slow.... any ideas? as I am no computer expert. thank you.

Still very slow in uplading/starting. Playing is terrible
No info on quantities for mines (iron). Quest info not visable

So please make the proper adjustments or go back to the old version.

use a free VPN like Proton and route thu the USA that will get you logged in the game at least to maintenance island

We received reports from players that some of the major issues got better for them with an updated Java. The lag decreased, zone refreshed popups disappeared and no java/uncaught errors appeared during a normal game session. Therefore, we would like to advise you, to test this out for yourself.

Please install the latest Java Version from the official page: https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (make sure to choose the correct version for your OS).

Note: We know the issue is connected to our system and are eagerly working on it. However, it is still important to keep your own system up to date, and Java doesn't seem to update itself for everyone.

I agree that keeping our computers up to date is important, however we should also not install unnecessary utilities. To my underatanding the Java client is not required to run JavaScript, and it is not currently installed on my computer.

Are you saying that Java is used by the game, in addition to JavaScript?

This is absolute nonsense as Java runtime has nothing to do with JavaScript. Unity WebGL export does not use Java either. JavaScript implementations are per browser and cannot be updated by the user manually other than updating the whole browser. Chrome for example uses V8.

LMAO . Here we go again, Its Our computers, its Our OS, its Our updates, and even in another thread we are told to use Our workarounds !
My advise based on all the years playing this game is DON'T MESS AROUND WITH YOUR SYSTEM TILL BB FIX THEIR END. Remember THEY broke it at their end not yours, don't let them break your systems out of desperation to try and play. If everything else works fine on your system leave it alone, they have so far made one update and it did not address play ability and messed up some log ins .... who do you trust to give you advise, BB or Players ?

Heya Trafffer.

I've updated my java script and I've still got a sea of blue and no functionality. My whole island has now run down and all I can attempt is the guild quest and the daily quest.

Chewing through my premium. Can't do adventures, can't send explorers, can't build any buildings, can't visit friends islanders.

For finer detail, I can't open my barracks/elite barracks, i can't make books, my provision house is useless icons, no Christmas market activation, no stadium snacks, no oil refinery.

Tomorrow is a week since this all went very, very pear shaped. My whole guild didn't make it through the cut over and this is going to hurt us again.

Question - I have no java on my system, (javascript is enabled) I can log in and do stuff on my island, how does installing a new 3rd party element that I haven't needed for a month help? Is it officially a requirement now?

No, I won't test it out for myself - I'm not a program tester for BlueByte.

Other browser games I use work perfectly fine on my setup - I'm not installing stuff that I don't need just for the sake of playing this (I'm not playing now anyway.)

Obviously BB have no idea what they're doing and they're clutching at straws and trying to make like it's our fault.

Why don't you admit this it's all too much for you to understand, pull the plug on TSO, fire all the so-called dev team and management, get some programmers who know how to programme a game and release a completely new version after a year or so.

This will never be fixed properly, there are too many fundamental problems that are beyond the capabilities of the people at BB, may as well just bin it.

No, now it's just 100% wrong and potentially harmful information. What is the actual source to ask users install the Java runtime? Did the developers actually suggest this or was it a pick from some user forum post?

Most browsers have not even supported Java runtime for years as it was deemed to be a security risk like Flash as it used the old plugin system in browsers. Unity WebGL which the current TSO is using does not use it either for the same reasons.

With every day that passes I am more and more sure that BB was forced to go live with Unity, despite the bugs that were reported by players while using test servers and not been fixed (at least the critical ones) until day of releasing. This is something I can understand.
However, I am very much amazed by the fact that they do not (at least try) to implement a sort of "nightly builds". Fix one or two small / big bugs and do an update. At least once every 2 - 3 days. We would have then seen slightly improvments of the game's mechanics / graphics and hope that bit by bit we will get back the pleasure to play it.
Instead of this we get nothing. Only a failed update and strange advices like the one with Java update (!!). We just "sit" and hope that in n>3 weeks we'll get another post from BB saying next week we'll get another game update which might (but I doubt) improve some things but (most probably) generate others.
Each failing update does nothing than to increase the upset and frustration of the players until that point of no return when many will quit.
