Boys what's taking you so long? You've been meddling with it for over a year and the result is still game hardly playable. Although we need to be reassured that you keep working on it, how about trying to explain in layman terms what's going on so that average gamer can make some sense of it. Cause it really looks like some are jokingly saying, there's one coder picking his nose the whole week and occasionally typing a report that they are working. Usually when there is work done it is also seen on the outside, although I get what you are saying that part of the work is invisible on infrastructure. Vague promises of further who knows how many months of optimizing, after saying the same for months and months already, does not really do much for us players. Previously you mentioned servers infrastructure tweaks to up the performance, but not in this update. Has this been done, or abandoned ....... ? ........ Give us some tech background, include us. If community is as important for you as you say treat us as adults and give us some serious data instead of this "ye, we are working, sorry it's not visible" ......... mantra ...

Anyway ........ I'm really really glad that game has not been shut down and that one day .................. in far far future ........... at last we will be able to play again without wrecking our mental health over the bugs and hassle ............ :)

I hear, but seeing is believing, quite frankly. We were assured this game would be playable by September. It's not, and as I don't find it enjoyable any more to play, I have stopped playing adventures, logging on only for the gems and the odd chat. It's incredible to me that you could mess it up so badly and that you still expect people to play. I used to put money into this game from time to time to show my appreciation, but I won't until I see a vast improvement.

You're probably getting tired of all the complaints, so in the spirit of positivity I'd like to say "Thank You" to Paul on support. It's a thankless task support, but it is now working better than before, and you seem to listen and understand rather than just closing the ticket regardless. Much improved, may it lead the way for the rest of the improvements

Thank you for the update..and future gift package. :)

I know this is a slow process, but it is encouraging that things are slowly moving forward.
Some examples:
Game support, it has gone from being unusable to now the support response and action is great. The contact from support after a ticket is submitted shows me that they are working on understanding issues (btw...Paul does a great job supporting us).

Explorers sending has improved, it has gone from very painful (taking 20-30 second each which is a challenge to those with a more developed account and have a larger number of explorers) to being very doable during the Halloween event.

The largest improvement for me is I am able to log into the account, that was impossible most of August.

The Halloween event has it's quirks but it was still a great event. I am also looking forward to the Christmas event.

Most of these fixes are for bugs that were introduced after the unity launch during "server upgrades", are any of the bugs that existed before more bugs were introduced going to be fixed?

Fixing the generals so adventures become playable should have been the top priority in my opinion (before the server upgrades made things worse).

Performance and lag issues
The latter point will be a long-term effort over the next couple of months

We all know what "couple of months" means in BB speak, I now don't expect the core issues of lag and poor performance fixed before well in to next year, maybe even a FULL YEAR after initial release and so 5 years after flash eol announcement in 2017.

And if those take a "BB couple" of months, when will the other stuff like zooming, scrolling, fonts, graphics etc etc etc get done?

New longboat storehouse adds storageroom but none walks to it. Grout tribute runs but doesnt adds grout anywhere. If BB hasnt got this reports before during event.

what I really would like to see are more types of hired soldiers, why have them in the game if only the soldier and recruits are used? I really hope they come someday, also I still hope you dear devs add the color scheme from the end of the world adventure as island skin option, I hope this for over 10 years now, I even want to pay for this to come into this game :)

Im a new player, just starter about a month ago. I was going to leave after about a week but people kept promising that the issues were short term and were going to be fixed. Now I find out there really is no fix coming any time soon. If something isnt done soon, im moving on.

Hang on, this is a brilliant game. It just has been on ICU life support for about last year. We are expecting full recovery at some point, but it may take a lot of patience.

bugs and reports.
still having problems with uplay, yes I have tried all suggestions I've read.
and when I do log in, its taking an hour to load. (I thought I needed a newer laptop so I used my GFs new PC, nope it still took close to an hour.)
some days of Halloween event I was unable to even log in.
I buy Gems and to be honest, I love this game.
But enough is enough, the earlier version of the game was playable. this is becoming more and more unplayable, and I'm not sure if its even worthwhile playing anymore.
Couldnt you just revert back to the earlier version and work on the updated version and then release it when the bugs/issues are fixed?

Perfectly put. Just the same old words and dangle the carrot of the next event and play on hope. Where is the URGENT action that needs to be made? where are these updates? Six weeks between updates on an unplayable game is ridiculous ( and even when these come they do little to address the big issues ) For the life of me I can not remember ever seeing a game company taking so long to fix a game ( That they broke ) .
I see nothing here that makes me even tempted to come back at Christmas event and as soon as I shut down the island I'll be leaving the ghost town like all the others,. I'll monitor forum for news and fixes ( From Players NOT the BB bull) but as for playing, it is not play its torture and I've had enough!

I would be very nice if we would have the explorer mass send option for the christmas event, especially with the performance problems.

It takes me 20 minutes to send all my explorers... and you optimize rewards for short searches...

So please, either get us the mass send or do not optimize for short send until the performance issues are resolved...

Trafffer, That's just it - we do read very carefully!

Ubisoft/BlueByte collectively share very little of the details, so we are forced to read whatever we can into the vague roadmaps, high-level generic deliverables announcements and an ever-growing collection of additional bugs. When we compare the visible results, the timing of those, the number of knee-jerk emergency-fixes to address oversights, the count and significance of the additional things broken, etc against the little that BlueByte has been shared overall or for any one change log, it is extremely hard to believe there's anyone in the migration/support team there that have any idea of what the key things are which make the game playable and enjoyable.

The longer things go on, the greater the gap seems to grow between the current set of devs with their game knowledge, compared to the features which (used to) make the game playable and enjoyable.

As a single example of the devs/event planners being out of touch - Please share what is "special" about only 10 mortars/battle-horses/arquebus or what relevance only 3 book fittings have (You need 400 to make a single codex, or 570 to fire up the Scouting Post!) which gave these items places in recent event calendars? Anyone who actually plays the game would realise these do not even have humour value in an event calendar. You want us to login every day and pay gems if we miss opening a door on the calendar within the allotted 24 hours, very few things in the recent event calendars warrant that.

Unity was all supposed to be done and dusted prior to Easter, 2021 but almost 8 months later it is still virtually as flaky as what was dropped on us on the 20th July.

I'd suggest that the folk in there who are making decisions about the game take a week and actually PLAY the game (and play the way real players play it, e.g. 5-6 runs of YWC within the 2 hour scouting post window), then reshuffle the priority list to elevate more of the playability features to higher positions on your invisible to-do list.

at least the new version on test seems to run a lot smoother than the current one- so there is some progress

We do hope (and need) this to speed up a bit - one new deployment every 2-3 months just doesnt get us there in a hurry

You forgot you have a server side enormous Bug about the new found quality mines (faster mining buff) disappearing in some hours even if you have built a mine on top of it. while old found deposit keeps the speed buff. It affects for sure Charming Geologist but i've see happening also on bronze and coal mines found with quality mines skills
It happens when you are offline, so it doesn't affect unity version, it's rather a backend issue.
But you ignoring it, looks like you don't care about it.

Well, as with all bugs, they are on the list and will get attention. This is a relatively new one so might just not have the same priority as some others nor be high enough on the list with less priorities to have someone look at it

So associating not fixing it within 1 deployment/upgrade cycle with not caring is a bit harsh- esp when there are a lot more game impacting bugs to deal with. We just have to hope that the bug is an easy fix and will be looked at soon- I haven't checked if they fixed it on test, which just had a new version implemented but u might check there as well

(BTW hardly any fix will reach live servers without a maintenance and we havent had one since implenentation of haloween event so logical that not many of any fixes have reached us yet)

I do like the game but Having my Quest Book disappearing all the time and having to refresh/reload and spending too much time in doing that and not being playing and losing precious premium time does take away the fun of this game.

Funny thing that this doesn't occur on the test server..
[Edit]: Never mind since the Christmas event in test it happens there as well ..
well there goes the fun.. :(

I was quite surprised to see some measuring pillars in the stock tables - left of each resource.
So not only is Unity mush slower than the previous client, much more bugged - but the prime thing it needed was adding MORE pictures -
to make the viewing even slower!??
"Zone refresh" and its roll-back issues still there, making everything else painful.

clean up your data-leaks /bleads -- haven't loaded my full island within 10 minutes but allready ran out of memory (not myself but the Serverpart i was allocated)
that would be a great improvment

maybe do a unity client - where we can download most of the data ./images that would save alot of traffic ;)

there are @least 8 errors and a couple of warnings shown by the analytic tools if you use operaGX/firefox94.0.2 those might be a good start to fix

Being aware of an issue and actually fixing it are two different things Traffer. BB have been aware of some bugs for over 10 years and they have never been fixed. Let's hope they don't plan on taking that long to make the game anywhere near playable on (dis)Unity. Without the client work round you would no longer have much of a customer base. As it is that number of customers has fallen immensely and drops each day players see nothing seeming to be done. We don't want flashing lights, nice little icons or even new material, what we want is to click to load the game and it to be fully playable in say 30s. We want to be able to do adventures and not have generals swapping - I even had a quartermaster go to fight a few weeks ago....... We want to be able to send geologists and explorers without constant zone refreshes and massive lag build up. And those are the basics. Without that the game is just a slow loading screensaver.

Lol, luckily he was walking from the LZ and I was well through the ToK. I had enough troops to then load the Vargus with what was on him to start with and send him too so he got to the camp before the QM. Otherwise would have been a case of go pop kettle on and come back to start cooking more troops

A few things to keep in mind and perspective

1) The bug is a new one
2) BB is not very fast
3) BB is bad at clear and open communication
4) The new version on test was probably already made/ready to go when this bug surfaced
5) They usually eventually fix bugs - some take a long time, some a short

So conclusion: Don;t expect a direct answer unless they have a fix already and wait and see - Not very satisfactory but it manages expectations - :P

i personally am just hoping it is a really simple fix and it gets sneaked into the upgrade in december but realistically, with their trackrecord i am expecting the first update next year - which alas i expect 1 week b4 valentine event :p

But it beats the alternative and that is changing the text to fit the bug

On a positive note: the new version does seem to work much better so @damien the next update should be a positive one

When they don't communicate it's not okay and when they do say something about the progress it's not enough? Or is it just not to your liking?
I'm just glad there's even a few letters of text coming from BB to acknowledge that they are at least alive.

The game is riddled with errors after waiting the obligatory twenty minutes for everything to load today I tried to go to an adventure and got - 'your session has been timed out please log in again'. After waiting all that time to be kicked out am I going to start over - certainly not! The minutes spent on the game trying to complete chores tasks is a minefield of mini disasters that take much too much effort for the reward of very little gameplay. This is the crux of why the vast majority of serious players have either left or only log on for a few minutes.

the realities are quite simple and venting - while it might relief frustration- won't change things.

If no maintenance has been performed between signalling an issue and the next complaint, it is more than likely it is still the same problem

So complaining the problem is still there is kinda pointless- of course it is there, they havent had a maintenance to fix it

Maybe point out that a faster maintenance/upgrade cycle is wanted/decided or needed - That would make a difference if they did - or maybe not as faster is not always better. Most issues have been reported and are just being rehashed. If you can't play- adjust to fit around that- however frustrating that is and hope the next round fixes things enough (or decide it isnt worth waiting for anymore- which alas is also a realistic option for many)

The good news- we hope- is that the next major upgrade is on test and looks/feels/plays a lot better. Maybe pop in and see if that works for you and if it does, decide if u gunna wait or not and if it doesn't, well then u know that the next major update after this one will be most likely 2 months down the line

Bear in mind the test server is under no load, it always performs better than the live servers. The unity client itself on the initial test server looked promising when everyone was starting at level 1 and only had 1 general to play with. Sure it is useful for seeing if bugs have been fixed, but it is useless for testing the performance side of things.

When are these fixes due?
someone must have written the zone refresh thing, it doesn't just appear by itself!? why is it so hard to remove it??

the next maintenance- which hasnt been officially scheduled yet

Unofficially it will most likely be around the 13th of december, when it is likely the technical implementation of the xmas event will be done (expecting a start around 20th)

By now u should kinda know how they work

The zone refresh has always been there, its when the client syncs with the server so the game wont function without it. The issue is it used to take about half a second with the older clients but the unity client can take 100 times longer to process it for whatever reason.

The new issue where quests are getting stuck at 99/100 is probably due to an attempt to fix the issue by adjusting the server rather than the client.

yea- need to go to another island or adventure and return which usually fixes it- not really ideal :P

we will see what gets fixed and how well once they launch the new version - i cant be bothered to test much on test- it seems pretty pointless as most issues signalled there, get ignored in the next release anyway and then get signalled in greater numbers on live servers )

there is one big issue i have - sometimes when i'm to fast the bounderies of the starmenue doesn't match the underlying frame and i get something open /applied i realy don't want to
like just now i wanted to scroll down and clicked on the scrollingbar and i got a 3 day prem popped up #/(&/$§

or i get a diffent explorer while clicking on the tabs on the lower edge of the starmenu /a wrong addy opening, .....

that would be a nice fix


also if i have the mailbox open and i click on an avatar it opens a mail-window to that person - instead of giving me the choices of visit, trade, ...

yes,

the reality is, that patches and updates are a bit slow in coming the last few years = i think the best is around 5 (well without counting the emergency maintencance to fix the maintenance stuff )

Yes, but… that's the reality.

We monitor forums, social media, in-game chat, and our moderators also report issues to us, so we're aware of (I hope) every issue.

Each report matters because it gives our development team many more "sources" to find and fix the core of the issue.

I know some issues are too long with us, but it's only because the fix is not as easy as it may seem and requires doing some "other" things first.

The next update is coming! More on that soon.

Dear BB, Unity was obviously a poor choice, Ubi have had problems with that engine since at least Might and Magic X Legacy and never addressed the issues then, it overloads different brands and models of GFX cards with seemingly no rhyme nor reason as to which ones are affected worse, and adjusting down detail levels etc... made no difference.

However, there is something you could try in the meantime.
Produce a custom browser similar to the "slim browser", but have it set up to use OpenGL to render, rather than DirectX.
Even if it has no effect, it will at least rule out/in certain possibilities.
TSO was developed over 11 years ago, since then Micro$oft have completely changed the DirectX API and games that ran fine on previous versions no longer work under DX10 and 11. Pool of Radiance II - Ruins of Myth Drannor being a typical case, it's in the Ubi back catalogue if you want to check.

I was playing Eschalon Book1 the other week, and surprisingly it slowed down as more trees appeared on screen, tis has also happened on later versions but Book I was old enough not to suffer that problem, so maybe it doesn't like the ATI card in this laptop as much as other ATI models, or NVidia ones. However, selecting OpenGL instead of DirectX in the game launcher fixed this issue, and it flew along no matter how heavily forested the game screen got.

Finally, WebGL works natively with OpenGL so much better than DirectX, not surprising really, they both come from the same Open Source stable, not the locked in proprietary one.

Even if this just reduces load times for maps, this will be a huge improvement to our lives.
However, rendering is only 1 of many issues, how you managed to mess up the quest log is beyond me, and no wonder all our computers are struggling, the game now seems to hold all previous screens in memory (maps, star menu etc...) and redraws them again when moving or reopening, and then tries to redraw. What a mess.

The obvious "fix" is to make the Client official again until significant progress is made on sorting out this mess, it may have been clunky but at least the game was playable, unlike the last 2 events which were a nightmare. Becoming pretty obvious that the only people who "enjoyed" them were those who have reverted back to the unofficial client version from the Wiki instructions.

We still have all the same issues reported ad nauseam from the test server, some even worse, abandoning the client in the face of our reports was a very poor decision.

Going back to the old client makes sense, but it requires paying Samsung for a license.

Saving money is more important than playability for whoever makes the money decisions (someone who doesn't play the game obviously).

Sticking to their guns has probably lost them too many players at this point.

Don't expect a useful reply from Bluebyte, the developers seem to be hidden behind several layers of "managers" with each layer using telephone/chinese whispers to communicate.

Id rather they skipped an event and focused on making game playable, like most I join for event as want the new stuff. It not fun and painful to do most the stuff due to the many issues. I know that slows money from gem sales as you always have some that complete event buying via gems. But if they actually fixed game people might be willing to spend gems on stuff again to improve island, remove rocks etc

1) The event impact on dev team if fairly minimal, esp on the programmers as it is just the cookiecutter mold from last year with reward changes and some other slight adjustment so impact on programmers who make a difference on bug fixing isnt too big
2) kill events for 6 months or longer and expect the old hands to retire en masse as they have nothing to look forward except a year of bugfixing

The balance to get is not easy but most likely, killing off events would not be a better choice for BB

am so gratefull to BB, didnt think it possible to make game even worse, but xmas morning, tried to do nords adv, hard because cant transfer to adv isle.as have to restart again.
restart takes its usual 30 to 60 mins Ho Ho Ho.
