Great to see some important and long awaited fixes coming through. Could we perhaps just keep and ignore the snowglobe bug though :D

Ahh this list makes me happy. Lots of fixes there which I've been hoping for, especially the cooldown bug .

Buildings: Fixed an issue that caused the cooldown of cultural buildings to be calculated incorrectly

What do you mean by cultural buildings?

Does this fix also apply to production buildings where having multiple buildings is supposed to reduce production time but currently doesn't? i.e Adventure Bookbinder.

Is the randomly switching generals bug still on the 'very difficult' pile?

i wish to play this game without problems
they’ve been going on for too long, and it’s better to get everything back the way it used to be, before a new event starts

What about the issue with the achievements and tributes?

The real issues that make it hardly possible to play an adventure are not addressed.
I am, however, very impressed by: "Buildings: Fixed an issue that caused the buffs of the Toy Factory to have a wrong duration".
Did not expect the duration to ever get fixed.

To be honest, i am fairly disappointed with the lack of reach/debt of the fixes. Most seem like fairly minor issues compared to the big ticket items that need adressing and a fair few of those looked like minor database fixes and running through code and changing it a bit to fix the weird timers etc

Don;t get me wrong, chasing these bugs can be time consuming, but i rather have the active window ninja changing to another general/explorer etc fixed than a cooldown timer.

I can;t really see a single big ticket bug fix in this maintenance and i have a feeling that the list of fixes has been "padded" by individually listing every effect/thing fixed which most likely will have been fixed by the same pass over the code as they seem to be very closely related to each other (it makes sense todo that but if you take the padding out, the list of fixes seems fairly short for the time between the 2 maintenance cycles- even with the padding, the list isn't very big :p)

We are constantly working on solving the most "requested" issues, such as:

- Zone-Refresh
- General Switching
- Performance issues

We focus on these issues, but along the way, the team also fixes issues that are reported on a regular basis.

copycat71
02.02.22, 11:42
So we better stop reporting those not-so-important bugs, so the focus stays on the ones that REALLY matter?!

Or just remove them altogether. might be easier to do.

Lol. I've said before, You need to work harder. Lets face it we're not asking a lot. We're not asking for new content here, new exciting stuff to do, new levels and better UI making things less of a chore ( All things that have been promised with Unity). All we are asking is to get back to a level of play ability we had before the switch to Unity.
Most of these minor fixes should have been made and tested even before the Unity launch, so if it appears we are ungrateful for them now ... well , that is because after six months it is nothing to be really grateful for!
Fix those issues you've listed and have been `constantly' working hard on LMAO, but do it soon, or you won't have anyone left ( it will be interesting if the green light fix actually works , and doesn't break what ever it broke last time it was fixed). How many on my friends list are still around, or will I know if the fix is actually working as if they're not here there won't be a light on anyway.

ClarenceDuPont

`constantly' working hard on LMAO

I lol'd so hard at this, constantly? working? hard? for all these months?

Even just one person, 30 some hours a week, for nearly a year, that's a whole lot of dev hours, for something that wasn't broken before it was migrated to unity utopia.

Well in all fairness to Dragavon, the unity TEST was announced in the March of 2021, and I quote " to start in 2-3 weeks " So pretty fair to say that BB have had `nearly' a year to get the switch to Unity to work ... and i think we can all agree it is nothing like it was before, or still is on client version.

Qualan
09.02.22, 07:18
we all know it was a bad rushjob that went wrong

Fixing broken stuff then gets more difficult and time consuming than investing in doing it right the first time around

We don;t know ho wrong they have been tinkering behind the scenes either- for all we know it was 3 years or they started 2 weeks before launch

They launched in summer and hit snags - I kinda believe that they were running a lot better on internal servers while developing it for a variety of reasons:

1) They are not completely insane so wouldnt deliberately launch something that they didnt think was fixable in the short run (others have done it and to be honest- all instances where a beta failed and they launched, the failure on launch was even greater so the premise doesnt seem tohold in reality )
2) Internal server for development probably is quite a high end server and not standing in same serverfarms as the live versions so doesnt experience the same limitations
3) They can never mimick the real serveloads on the internal server so the limitations that seem to hinder the game, caused by excessive processing do not manifest themselves
4) On live servers the islands and storage and mails are much more filled than they tested with- The more stuff u have in queues, mail and star menu and the more buffs you run and more buildings you have, the more the game struggles and then reaches a tipping point after which it just isnt playable
5) Many players run machines than are older than 6 months to a year or cheaper specced with older chips - These too seem to keel over due to processing

It all seems to point to stuff that is not really solvable in the current unity built unless they redesign a lot on the back end or make some more fundamental changes to the game- neither seems to be something they want to do

Leaves tweaking the loads and hope people will be able to play and passage of time and people buying computers that can better handle the load (and them having more powerful servers to handle the back end) -

Always maintenance has to go over time

king_g_
09.02.22, 11:35
Indicative of the poor state that Ubi is in. The tech press has covered their staff shortages and dissatisfaction and by inference their poor management.

The maintenance will have been scheduled by one part of the organisation and implemented by another.
Priorities are unlikely to be the same for either or indeed the players.

But no doubt they are "working hard" to fix things :/

Still, some perspective is needed. It's a free game.

Hey all.

The maintenance will be extended by 2 hours, but we will include more bug fixes.

You can find the list of additional changes here (https://forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/38826-Change-log-09-02-22?p=363420&viewfull=1#post363420).

Qualan
09.02.22, 12:24
is your last post facts ? Qualan

no, all inferred stuff

But we know that test runs better than live servers. In some case a whole lot better (which was the case with the last maintenannce/upgrade which worked very well on test but on same machine there was not a whole lotof improvement i noticed on live servers)

We know that people with more powerfull machines have less problems

We know that players with less buildings/buffs etc have less issues

We have been told that they will upgrade the servers to fix some of the issues

Those are all facts or information from reliable sources - If you then translate those into the issues we see, u get more or less that narrative or something fairly similar but BB will not confirm of deny a lot of that so we will never know all the facts in this case

BB_Trafffer
09.02.22, 12:52

Qualan
09.02.22, 13:08
well, it is hedging their bets :P

It is a fix but they aren't sure yet if it fixes 100% of those problems - maybe a better description would be a partial fix and possibly a fix for xyz :P

Most likely it worked for the bugs they could reproduce but havent had time yet to run it through all its paces and see if it fixes all the instances of the bugs

What do the development team do with their time, it is obviously not a lot of work fixing problems with the game as so few are fixed each time and normally the important ones are not addressed. Do they ever play the game? if they did they would know how bad it has become. Come on and get you act together and do some meaningful bug fixing instead of just tinkering.

And unit testing

Yuk, you brought back that horrible 2 tier system of counting resources in the storehouses. :(
Wasn't popular the last time you tried to impose it, and as it has no impact on the game performance, why has time being wasted on this?
Still not even a hint of the major interface problems being addressed, the quest log lag and sticking, the explorer and geologist sending, still delaying us in our "duties", and visiting other maps is still a nightmare, no point in running events that require adventures (even scenarios are a nightmare) or placing buffs on friends' islands, on "busy" islands it can take up to 2 hrs or more to load with constant zone refreshes, and likely to crash out with either "Out of memory" or "script error" messages.

Worst of all, this update has locked me out of my French server, and Ubi$oft refuse to help as in their eyes I can't prove I am the "owner" of the account.
10 years and a lot of money down the drain, you should be ashamed.

gunoierul

Sometimes I have the strange feeling that this game is developed by a company named Jackie & Sons LLC, located somewhere in a small apartment ..... and not UBI Soft !!! Still so many bugs, so big lag, so many complains after so many months of switching to Unity version.

still waiting for a response Traffer. The clue to the post is the question mark at the end. When someone poses a question, it is normally polite and professional to, at the very least, acknowledge the question, even if it is to say that one does not have the necessary level of knowledge to answer said question.

Perhaps its best best to spend time dealing with and answering questions rather than berating people for chat jump errors that are not errors of those people but errors of BB and Ubi.

Enough of my rhetoric for the evening

Absolutely not. If you read our Community Updates you will find more details on the process - that will also explain why it takes so long.
