Too true, what bugs will become of the fix to remove purchased items from isle or star, I even saw some selling 5 x buildings at once via trade.
Also 3 hrs maintenance!!

Many of these buildings have been placed or sold, could be messy here.

That's another story. These items are not blocked for players who have not reached their limits. The team is aware and is working on a solution.

what is one to do, normally i goto the test server whilst they do the live fix, but the test server is still down since the outage last week
well, if history is anything to go by, the ones that clicked are lucky and the others will have to hope on a few cookies in the mail that the lucky ones also get :p

am more bothered about the downtime robbing obs and Scout time only get to use once a day but only says Prem and Addy time wil be extended. up until the fix I was dare I say impressed with the improved playability from the last event , no where near as glitchy or freezing so BB are on the right path , an djust as I though that , lost connection

Shall the honest players get a special item for being honest, or just a consolation reward for being dumb? ...... lol
Which brings back the question of why do fixes take so long, several hours? When elsewhere it takes literally a few seconds. Just kicks you out of the game, and you log back in straight away or just less then a minute after.
the second one Nort , the lazy approach does not always pay dividends. As someone put it the earlybird catches the worm, lol

Well - we can add any tab and content to the store. Updates usually first land on the test server, and after testing and additional changes, they go to our Live Servers - in this case, when implementing the new version, we had something that should not be there.

Most of what they're telling you is just gibberish from the standpoint of software development ;) its all just so that you dont have too much expectations and wont be disappointed when they fail to do their job.
And todays problem is just another example of them being so negligent they dont even pay attention to what they're deploying, just copy pasting stuff without even basic oversight of the process.

it is usually much harder to selectively undo this than to let it slide and same goes for rollback. In the past a fair few times similar issues have had the saem resolution: fix the bug but not retroactively correct this on a player level

I know, I worked in IT for 28 years, server admin and networking among the jobs I did.
They keep having the same repeated problems, servers going offline/routing broken, and still can't get to the bottom of it.

Some "Item laundering" already happened. People bought em, traded, placed on ground, upgraded, moved, etc. tricks.
I doubt they are rushing to do an unprepared database item tracing and deleting in such a short time so they probably either let people keep em, do a full rollback or do a rerun of the "return to star or be banned" mess.

EDIT: Gosh, I've just noticed that I am an Excellent Essayist. That makes me want post a lot more. That excellency must be put to a good use. :)
BB is busy inventing and designing new buildings to increase load on game and syncronisation - so they dont want to waste time testing things on testserver - there only an 'early version' was tested and no updates made ( and it has been unavailable for almost a week now )
Maybe they had to test something about bundles and and instead of 'wasting' time to update testserver, they made a 'test shop' on the live version they were working on - and then forgot to remove it before copying it to live servers.

They would need to roll back everything to before event started ( mail , star , store , island designs ) , and I doubt they keep regular database backups or snapshots because only a snapshot would be guaranteed to have everything correct at a particular point, or it wouldn't take so long to fix things normally.
I doubt they know how to run something like Veeam.
That really does leave a sour taste towards the game for me if not addressed properly etc. I've played the game on and off since it started pretty much but i've been lucky enough to miss any major issues. Having bought gems to support the game and this happens, its not just a couple items, we are talking a lot of resources and buildings even training barracks etc, I'm not sure how many of those you could get though.

They had the same fiasco with an explorer one year, some ended up with 3, some with only 2, caused by database rollbacks and some being lucky to click before whatever time they rolled back to.
It's amazing how much people remember about the game and it's fiascoes. I can hardly remember what happened last week, much less last event, and last year is in total darkness. I just come, play, and then forget there was such a thing as TSO, until something reminds me again :)
It seems to be a very long hotfix, considering it actually started before the advertised time
Maintenance extended by another 90 minutes, this must be a massive hotfix.........................................
what a great event this is turning out to be, most of my explorers will be sat at home, all the buildings around my love tree will be having bad production due to love tree buff ending and unable to sleep those buildings, and down time just keeps getting extended, great job BB
Downtime does seem to be excessive here, how many actually saw the tab above the football event tab?

Only way to do rollback is to restore everything to state they were before the event started.
Nah, they pulled servers down to avoid more people buying stuff. They probably didn’t have a working fix yet at the time
Do you really think that a) they have a true and complete snapshot and b) they could roll back to that successfully?
Past performance would suggest to me a no to both of those questions.
I somehow doubt that will stop them trying though.

USA have been told 3 hours added to downtime.
They couldn't rollback the improved storehouse or emphatic scout fiasco, the latter they offered those that didn't get one a free one.
Maybe a 1 day extension to the event? Many lost hours here!

Reminds me of the improved storehouse from calendar debacle some years back where you could open the final calendar door again and again. BB huffed and puffed like a big bad wolf that accounts would be deleted if people didn't own up to having used the glitch, then they pulled back to if you did you had to give back 3 of the improved stores but never gave a mechanism for doing that. Had a guild member who gathered 15 improved stores and not one was removed - be too much like hard work.
A few years ago the event window gave multiple copies of the Christmas cottage. I've still got mine. I'm a criminal.

Let's face it, the mythical team is in fact someone pulled out of other work for an odd hour now and then. They don't know the game, they don't know the code, little is documented and they just "fix" whatever is easy.

Thats todays GQ broken too, no doubt claim we didn't login , so that's day 7 missing on my week login , and tons of buffs ran out ages ago
And if deside to make rollback need to make again all quests from The Pathfinder :-(
No chance to send scouts out or do adv's so now BB costing every player, extended event is the only compensation now.

Roll back to previous version, re-patch with working update and move the start date forwards a few days. Not much lost this way since people can plan out their explorers again.
BB has implement the maintenance about 1 week ago in order to make the game playable without any issue but now it clearly shows how they are bad at their job.They only good at hiring an employer who reads forum and ignoring/rejecting game ideas that makes game more enjoyable from base players also good at removing the topic that would insult other people.It just a shame.

As a programmer it's not *that* surprising to see a non-prod feature leak onto a prod environment.
What's utterly inexplicable is how long it's taking them to fix it - the most I've ever had to bring a prod environment down for (for a product of comparable complexity to TSO, if not quite the same size userbase) in the last few years was 15 minutes due to some AWS issue that was somewhat out of my control.

You have to remember the skills and efficiency on show, hence they are probably taking the freebies off each player individually as that's the limit of tech knowledge
I think they compiled 50 pages long macro and let it run through the database to identify and confiscate all illegal items in the game ..... haha :)
Like old times. You write a code, and then let it run overnight to complete. :)

They've obviously got some talented and imaginative people in charge of the graphics and game ideas - obviously they should just get rid of the actual programmers and dev-ops engineers and rely entirely on the product team for everything. Or maybe that's exactly what they already did...

Yesterday, when i logged in after 5 days of vacancy, i saw my buildings are upgraded... 14% (around 1 day and a half). So i lost 5 days and the buildings upgraded only 2 day (to get a round number)...
They will fix the game... :)

If you do not log in after 24h your island is "frozen" - production, upgrades etc. If you want to have time off with buildings continuing to upgrade you have to ask a friend or guildie to visit your island once a day to keep it going.

probably...and the reason is quite unbelievable if you know how many things are not working and how long and nothing or very little effort is dedicated to fix it

thats normal- game mechanics are that island goes to deep sleep if you dont log ion or someone visits it to keep it active and then the timers sleep as well
there is a dev diary out there that explains that mechanism and been like that for a long time
Oh, dint knew about that timer as i usually log in quite often. Thanks for pointing that up.
Anyway, i have the feeling that this game become more demanding in terms of time. From event to event, i see that there are more and more demands in terms of event items and i need to spend more time playing it. At a point, this "forced play" makes me quit playing it. Because of this "have to log in at least once a day" and unity being not that good, i started to play less.
get a friend do surf over every 2 days avoids the problem - it is a pain if u have a long upgrade running to see it stall
waiting for the extended maint times now, as losing hope BB will get it fixed soon

So we'll see in couple of minutes.
What is really stupid is that BB don't seem to have any idea as to what makes a game like this a commercial success. I have spent a lot of money on BB over the years for various games, and had this game been well run and supported I would have on this as a token gesture to support them.
Their performance to date (I started in January) gives me absolutely no inclination to spend any real cash at all on this.

they made a bad decision on unity/imprlementation of it and haven been trying to recover ever since but dont seem to make enough inroads
The game is old so that also makes it a difficult one. It might have been better to make TSO2 and have everyone start over in a new architecture with similar gameplay philosophy but we are where we are and now they either get it to work and we will so how long it runs or they dont and somewhere soonish a plug will be pulled or they leave it running in a kinda timewarp setting - no new stuff and just run as is till it isnt worth it anymore to them

The game is old so that also makes it a difficult one.
Whether or not the game is old makes barely any difference, considering that from a functional perspective its really primitive and theres no indication of why it would have many complicated parts inside (essentially around half of the game is executing similar tasks at specific points in time).
What is most likely the games main problem is that they completely failed their business model from the very start, and failed to deliver anything a larger populace would pay for (considering literally everything of value is available for free during events, and given enough patience you can get thousands of € worth of gems for absolutely free from the pits).
Even if you disregard bugs happening less or more often nowadays that it used to, they showed no intention of introducing any new content since late 2019, and havent actually introduced new one since mid 2017. Its evident that theres a round zero money thrown at the game right now (and has been for years) so hard to expect any breakthrough in quality.

u never get as many people joining compared to a "new and improved" version which is almost the same as the old anyway

I'm intrigued to know what BB have done to correct their error. I've lost all my ill-gotten buildings & seem to have vast numbers of football collectibles but I'm not sure what else has changed as I'm not short of weapons, buffs etc & don't know what I had before I 'bought' the bundles.
So after the hot "fix" I seem to have no chat except whispers.
Also the green lights have disappeared that show who is online, unless I am the only one playing which tbh I have wondered at times over the last few months!
& the game is playing even more clunkily than usual. I think it is all the attempts to reach the chat server? & even though I minimise the window the 'can't reach' message is driving me nuts.

yep - causes alot of traffic that slows the whole game down -- maybe do something like
try as often for 30 seconds to connect than every minute for 2 minutes and than every 10minutes so it doesn't spiral

I suspect they're just as capable of changing that algorithm as they are of fixing the chat server in the first place.
But...I understand the programmer mindset...just now I couldn't help thinking well if they can't fix the chat, at least allow "open" invitations into multi-player addies. As if somehow that might be easier to build than just fixing chat... (though I still think it's a good idea anyway!)
