Hi - I've just logged in for the 8th day, and its reset the log in bonus to day 1 (I got day 7 yesterday) - is this normal, i.e. does it cycle round each time you get to 7 days?

Yes, that's normal.
So getting enough gems to add +10 building licenses is (650/45)*7 = 101 days = 14 weeks...
