This is part of the science system, it means a Geologist has found it with a special "trait", if you leave your mouse over the deposit it should tell you what special science it has applied to itQuote:

That tells you it's a special depost, the geo found a faster and/or bigger deposit. If you upgraded your geo with books, he can find better deposits.
If you hoover over the ore with your mouse, it will tell you the details of the spot :)
