Intriguing building placements

I saw this building placement at a players Island

and I was wondering how is this possible to do because at my Island it only allows this placement

Those buildings where placed before the buildable places on our islands were changed.

They said they made the changes to give us more room to build on did they not?

Changing an area from 5 to 3 building spots is not an improvement is it? :p

And they did. Overall with the whole island(s) counted. And probably assuming you weren't "tricking" the game to place stuff.

Some places were no longer available to reduce pathing issues which IIRC could cause locked zones.
