I have 2 suggestions:
1) The bar can be filtered by player name (or part thereof)
This to make it easy to find a friend in your list
2) The level number is removed and is replaced by the achievement count
This to show the overall wider achievement of a player rather than a reflection of just their experience counter.

maybe point 2 could be optional. but yes i agree, some navigation other than scroll left and right on this list would be very helpful.
to find a guildie i have to go to guild tab, order by name, which isn't alphabetical for some reason and I have never worked out why there seems to be 2 groups here! then check the player level. then scroll thru the list of players till i find ppl around that level and sometimes (coz again there is some strange grouping here) i can find them.
if i need to look for a non guildie, i just dont bother if i cant see them in chat!
The two groups in guild are those starting with upper case letters, and those starting with lower case...
Strange grouping = sort by rank, then level, then name
