Well at this moment the server is definatly down, and forum was too all day till now.
Thought this maintenance was planned for Monday, not Sunday...
Laughing my butt off, game has worst day in history, and only reactions on the forum are on the sonya riddle nonsense :D
Well its a nice change for once, a day of being unable to play and no one complaining, and no i aint complaining either, I am just curious whats going on...
Seems something bad happenend to their servers, so I hope they are able to get our islands back unharmed more, then that i worry about lost production...
finnaly got the forum back after not being able to get on here for 15 hrs. game still down though 15 hrs and counting. just kept geting data base error when i tried to get in the forums to see why the game was down for maint today instead of tomorrow.
Its saying down for maint and wont take more than half a day. well i think 12 hrs is half a day so 15 hrs is well beyond half a day. No warning either it just went down right in the middle of doing something. Good job i had just finished an expo or i would of lost those troops for nothing.
Suppose the game will be down again tomorrow for the scheduled update to add the easter event stuff.
Worst, this isnt the announced maintenance for Monday wich would make the server unavaileble for game and forum, as that is planned for tomorow, so we get that one first, then on Tuesday the maintenance wich will implement the easter event...
So be prepared for 2 more days of hardly being able to play...
another week before they turn on the easter event as that supposed to start monday 26th.
might get worse. they might screw something up and have to take the server down again to fix it lol.

So 3 days in a row, unless they use the fact its offline to implement whatever they got planner for tomorow.
Might be its not a planned down time. Maybe its their supplier thats down. had it in other games where everyone in the dev office got cut off from the outside world. even the phones went down. took them 3 days before they were able to get services back as it was the net providor that went down. apparenty the providors servers blew up taking down every site using them and the phone lines lol.
Guess we will have to wait till the devs let the mods know whats going on so they can tell us.
still having probs with the forum. when i try to check other posts in the forum i get data base error msgs coming up.
They are communicating on Twitter, but not on their own forum, so its not strange less and less use forum.
As i saw on twitter ( Using the link on the maintenance page )they updated their messages there 3 times so far, and the reactions there where full of complaints, and not the nicest ones
I looked again and they updated just once saying they are still investigating whats going on (wich doesnt look good to honest, so i dont expect it back today for sure......)
The update was just joined by the Original message, so i counted 3, my fault, not used to use twitter...
I tried a bit, clicking random forumpieces, and my experience is that refresh is your best friend, even when you get the Database error page, just refresh (couple of time if needed) but it will open in the end. It just takes a lot of patience and refreshing today ;)Quote:

think most of us will be busy for a few hrs when the game comes back on rebuilding all the deposits that will be depleted sending out geo,s and explores as all of mine will be back home getting bored lol. think most of my buffs would of run out as well.
i was lucky on an expo as i just claimed a colony a couple of mins before the server went down. but missing out on all the res i should be getting from the colonies
hi, expected more people here, trying to find out whats going on today with the down time:( feels like a ghost town, hopefully all will resume soon... the game and the ghost town :)

So we're having today's full day and a half of unscheduled maintenance, followed by a half day of maintenance tomorrow, then some more downtime on Tuesday?
All I know is that I used an independent server to try to ping the Settler's server and it didn't respond - so something is definitely amiss. It's not a controlled outage from what I can see.
German servers were back online at 5pm, a bit sluggish to respond at first but playing normally.
By 7:30pm, French servers were back up, and I ran an adv with no problems.
It's now 10:30pm and the UK servers are still down, guess we're back of the queue. :(
Also, German homepage had posted an updated news page about this outage, with links to Twitbook, Friendface and the forum (when it worked!) to keep players up to date with the situation, wouldn't have taken them 2 minutes to do the same on the other language versions, even untranslated it was clear enough.
Communication from BB on the front page and forum would very much be appreciated.
We should not have to check twitter and facebook for news on the game.
Whilst I appreciate that this was obviously unplanned and unexpected it would not take long for BB to update us here.

Hmm - Disappointed doesn't really cover my thoughts about this travesty of ineptitude. Some, like me, had actually planned for the announced maintenance. Now we will have the usual gamut of mines needing location, buffs run out and resources wasted on unbuffed production.Quote:

These demonstrations of coding skill leave a lot to be desired - someone or something was going on during the time I was playing on Saturday 17/03/18. In addition to the now standard freezing of the game. we had troop loadings being altered on a random basis requiring the double checking of all attack strengths.
The almost daily loss of chat functions for varying periods of time is frustrating.
The weekly maintenance was a pain but at least you could plan for it !
oh the joy of another fubar'd day of settlers with more to come, would not have been so bad if something had of been said here(when the forum finally let us in) rather than the social media i don't use (after finding that they were too invasive on my old laptop i have not loaded them to my current 1)!!
how long will it take everyone to get there isles up to speed again , i hope the goodies drop for the "TOP GRADE " stuff up they are creating is worth while!!
@queen-vicious, normally I'd agree with you, forum s/be the first call instead of anti-social media but as that has also been severely affected by this too, I can acknowledge the use of it as a secondary information source.
What really gets my goat is the complete lack of communication altogether, and this has rankled for a long time when even "planned" maintenances are sprung upon us with next to no notice.
It's all very well BB telling us this time around to plan ahead when we've not been given the chance to for over a year, and the first time we do get prior warning, fate (or Putin) has conspired to stuff things up.
Seeing as this is a global downtime, I am struggling to see why different versions are coming back at wildly varying times, surely the "fix" should also be global, and before anyone says anything about server location, we share the same hardware with the French language version which has now been working for just over 6 hours.
Hi BB, I have been unable to play since last night and it took me over 1 hour this morning to just log-in.
Now I am logged in but all I get is the maintenance page.

I can't tell what happened (North Korean flashmobs? Anonymous out for the lolz? Night janitor pulled the plug on the server rack?), but this is the first settlers crash I remember where the server went down for hours and only returned "500" pages when you tried to access anything. Typically there's that uninformative "maintenance" page, we didn't even have that last night. The forums went down too for a while. So something majorly wrong happened. It would be useful if someone at BB/Ubi would provide a bit more info on their plan for getting this running again other than "The technical difficulties are still being investigated, we will keep you updated," which they quite clearly haven't, in any way shape or form.

BB has said its not just TSO effected but other games as well.
So the staff will be running around all night trying to get everything working again.
If it was just TSO they could fix it faster but with all their games down it will take longer as they have to find where the fault is by checking every server every connection contact the internet providor to see if the problem is that end.
Dont know what the weather is like where the servers r but in the UK we have a lot of snow. that could of bought cables down somewhere or caused a short circuit outside the building where the servers r.
All we can do is let BB get on with the job of fixing the prob as they r most likely too busy trying to fix it to keep us updated.
At least they have been posting on twitter and facebook to let us know they r working on the prob every hr.
Other companies that have had failers didnt even bother to keep anyone updated and those games were down for weeks.
Yes TSO has a few probs. But name any browser game that hasnt got bugs in it. U wont find any.
Ive played hundreds of browser games over the years and BB have by far the best support and the least amount of bugs.
I want to thank BB staff for all the hard work they r putting in right now to get this sorted. They have had to give up their day off and probably work through the night as well to fix this.

This doesn't apply to this site, but I've seen similar issues before.
Firstly, BB may not be in a position to post to the forums because they may be having the same problem with it as the game. That being that the database won't let them log in. They certainly wouldn't be able to log into the main page for the same reason.
The last time I saw an issue like this, the website was being hosted elsewhere and the servers themselves was the source. Someone else posted on our guild's FB page that this is affecting multiple websites and not just TSO. That all but confirms my fears that it is the hosting company having an issue with their servers. It could be minor, like a power supply or other piece of equipment failing. Or, there may be an outage in the host's server location, which would mean their ISP would have to fix an issue. Or one of the main hop points the ISP utilizes could be down, which would allow some users to log into the game and forums because their ISP routes differently to the host servers.
The big one that worries me is when a host server's hard drive goes bad. That would require the host to replace the bad drive, then affected websites would have to load from last backup. Since some people are able to log into game (especially those of other languages) and forums, it seems unlikely that is the issue unless the hosting company has TSO spread across multiple server hard drives but who knows.
Short answer is we may not know what the problem was/is until the site is back up.

Well that means the daily bonus is gone, now i have to start all over again. Everytime there's an update, TSO becomes Buggheaven.
I'm amazingly lucky that my industrial mines aren't running. My sympathy for anyone who has important buildings that will be lost during this debacle
forums have been down as well. BB have been posting updates on twitter and facebook.
Its a global problem effecting other games as well not just TSO.
All they have said so far is they r aware of the problem and r investigating it. So till they find the fault they cant give us anymore info.
They have said the game will be down now till after the scheduled update.
So they might of found the fault and its going to take all night to fix it then they will do the update before turning the game back on again to save taking it offline again. If thats the case then the update might not take as long as they will start work on it as soon as they have fixed the problem that has taken the game down.
They cant say what the compo will be yet as they need to see how long its going to take to find and fix the prob then workout a compo settlement.
BB wil want the game up again ASAP cause while its down they r losing money and players will quit the game.
Less money from gems being bought. overtime to pay the staff. They might have to buy some things to fix the prob depending on what it is.
Moaning and complaining wont get it fixed faster. So lets let them get on with it for now. then if u want to vent ur anger wait till the game is up and running again lol.
