Taking recent developments in the cost of materials and various requests by players into consideration, we are going to make changes in our setups.
We will switch more and more to the use of Bowmen
We will try to switch from Cavalry to Militia
The price of bows has been dropping steadily over the last month. Also the price of beer has been going down, meaning they are less expensive to produce. With many setups, 20B can replace 30 or 40R, giving a good saving on bread while not being more expensive to produce.
We are switching from C to M in certain cases because Iron Swords are dropped regularly and in sufficient amounts from the adventures used in our guides. Cav is notably beer-hungry, too. Militia provide an optimal balance between cost and effectiveness, more so than Soldiers in our view.
We will list alternative (older) setups as well, so people can choose.

Nice, clean and easy to use guides !
Well done :)
-
Just done the Island of Pirates using your guide and the need for 70r 180s on camp 8 (the one with interception) gave me a 70r 1s loss. The interception took out 20 recruits so it was 50r, 180s going into camp 8.
Very nice maps, i been storing up adventures for your guides, so easy to follow.
-
terghi,
Sorry to hear that. I've been asking a few beta testers about their experiences with camp 8, and so far it worked out tightly. I'll revise that, my apologies for your loss.
-
np mate, it's 1 wee soldier and few more recruits, easy worth the sacrfice for such a good guide imho. Only posting so you can tweak for others.
-
First of all I love your guides!, but I have 1 small remark :P On the map of pirates in the right corner you've put the troops that are needed and put 177C but you need 248C in the first camp so maybe you could adjust that to prevent confusion... I just used your guide but now that my troops arrived I saw that I need 248C instead of 177C :p It's my fault for not looking carefully enough I know but I always look at the total troops :D grtz!
-
Satrax,
Seems I should have put a bit more time in Pirates. I blame the freezing cold and the broken heater here :) Will fix it tonight! Thanks for the headsup.
-
you can do island of pirates with max ~470 R looses , and real looses are around 400-450R if you add some block's :) , but still , very nice looking guides :)
-
Vivelas,
Feel free to share your knowledge! I'd be glad to give you the credits, and will update the guide. Right now this is the best I could do, curious where I missed out on some significant advantage. Pirates was never my favorite, since it just did not have a lot of opportunities for me (first strike units everywhere...) to tweak around. But maybe I've not been looking well enough..!
-
Well I've made map for pirates , but first of all it was mostly for me , so there is a little bit of chaos :) and second thing , it's a mix of Shobbob map and blocking methods from this thread : http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/t...-Camp-Blocking , so I dont have any credits at all :) .
And here is map:

PS. I like yours guides because they are very clean , simple and easy.
-
Hi Vivelas,
We don't use blocking at all (as stated in our introduction post! ;) ). This makes us different from other guides, we provide 100% reliable and safe setups only.
Maybe I am seeing it wrong, but most of your alternative setups actually are a lot worse than mine on that map. For example, the last base you lose significantly more recruits on both waves. Also in base 8 you lose more recruits than needed for the trap+camp.
You save 1R on base 6, but I opted to do that one with a regular general, so you can speed up the process of attack at the expense of 1R inefficiency.
So maybe its a good idea you take some of our guide setups and put them in your own, saves you around 15R total :)
-
Yea i saw that you don't use blocking :) , sometimes thats nice , but here on pirates blocks are very easy to do ,so I prefer to save over 100R :)
Nah , not a lot worse , almost every one is the same , and yea on last wave in last camp now I can use more A , because when I did my map , I didn't had 70-80 A and for first wave I did use more R for safety of block as I recall :)
Ps , You have mistake in camp 7 , looses are 54 not 43 maximal :)
-
Hi,
Thanks, Camp7 was counted to the total R but I forgot to modify the camp losses. Fixed the map!
We opt for 100% blockless maps because for some people it's just impossible to do blocks (connection not good enough for example). Also right now, the server can be really laggy at times meaning that blocks can and will go frequently wrong. Its just not 100% reliable, meaning you could lose a lot of S potentially. But, everyone his specialty :)

Seems that Pirates keeps hunting me:mad: I'll fix it in a bit :) thanks ! Should be 80R/170S obviously :)
-
casel0gic,
Thanks, fixed the cav number!
I'll shy away from adding the traps though ; the xp gain is small, yet the amount of time spent hunting for them significant. Traps are hard to spot as well, so we usually avoid them. Thanks for your comment though!

Re Witch of the Swamp - update - intercept - I like the idea and just tried it but 1st camp that should be intercepted is a leader camp and does not get intercepted. The bandit camp does though next to 2nd leader camp (main attack 1 on your map).
-
Hi Dragon,
Yeah, we discovered this too. It looked good on paper, but I forgot the first camp doesnt intercept. Costs 120Xp to skip it, I think we'll just add it again. Thanks for the heads up however!
-
No worries, great maps - they look awesome - keep 'em coming ;)

All adventures are updated to one degree or another, mostly correcting errors. Please never use direct links to individual images, but come back to this guide for latest versions!
-
On witch of the swamp that first skip camp just after camp 3 (the first of the two skips in a row) is a normal camp not a leader so it needs to have troops assigned to it. I went with the standard 155s 45r setup for this. I tried the walk past with the right troops for it to see if it would skip but it does intercept.
Also you can put the general a bit further along, just over the river and north from the 3 camp, near the sand part so it's less walking distance for the remainder of the camps.
For the overall requirements (excluding the amount needed for the non-skip camp) it should be 25m not 40m as this is all that's needed for the last tower.
-
first "skip" cost me 36c!! I thought this would happened but I guessed: probably well tested or some bug.
-
Terribly sorry guys, due to a photoshop error I lost the arrow for that camp, and working way too late at night on this stuff, made a stupid mistake.
This was an older version that got mixed up with the new version. I'll refrain from making updates late at night from now on. It was online only briefly during the slow hours, hope not too many were hurt by this.
My apologies..!
-
Don't need to apologise mate, your maps are amazing. Slight hiccup is all, easily done when sleepy :)
-
Thanks, but let's not forget that all adventure makers out there have their unique advantages. Killste for example makes fantastic guides using blocks. Also most other guidemakers are more complete than the limited kaos set. We cherrypick our favorites and spend all our time on those :)
p.s. @ caselogic : I tried to reply to your second PM but it told me you could not receive any ?
-
3 more runs of Witch of Swamp done and can confirm them numbers are stable, got it to just under an hour now. The spot I suggested for moving the general to prior to camp 3 over the river seems random, sometimes it'll show for me and sometimes it won't so don't know the criteria for it as yet so would suggest keep your move to spot as is to take out 3 and onwards.
-
I've looked into that but cant seem to find that more forward position sadly. Would save a few minutes of time indeed. If you can make a screenshot of the spot with the "Green" + marker active and post it here that would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.
-
What do you mean by "planned intercept" on Island of the Pirates" please?
-
That the intercept is planned and not an accident :)
Also it means you have to refresh your browser's cache I think, because the current edition of the Pirates map no longer has that notification (It uses the generalized intercept-dotted-white-path).
-
That's what I am looking at the dotted path with a little x on it, does it mean you send the gen to the little x?
-
You always send the general to the marker with the troop numbers and losses. The rest is automatic :).
Please also read the index that I added on the startpost, it explains everything!
-
OK thanks, and as I said before, great maps, used Witch a few times now, and it's excellent.
Although I do move my gen to just below camp 1 for attacking camp 2
-
Hi,
We chose to not include Elite soldiers at the moment because only a small minority of the server is able to use them. We have some information about our maps with the use of elite soldiers, and there are some profits to be made (usually nothing extreme, maybe 5-10% benefit in the best of cases).
We will start including ES as alternative setups in text form with some of our maps in the near future, and provide full ES-based maps in 1 month (linking the old maps as backup for those who do not have them yet).
-
Added "The Nords" adventure guide(22 April) :
- Very fast and easy map with great XP & loot.
-
Stickied the guide, great work guys
-
How is that block on last camp on Nords? It seems i did it wrong, sent general to right camp as said in guide and general took out it. Then i sent last wave and it got intercepted by middle camp. Guide said it was ok to get intercepted then it proceed to last camp. Then i lost the fight and all my xbmens. Please tell what i did wrong.
-
Kiltax,
Sorry to hear you lost units. I'm not sure what you did, but you should only place attacks on camps according to their number, from the positions marked with those numbers. E.g. position 6,7 is only to be used for attack waves 6 and 7. And Position 8 is only for attack wave 8.
Also on the map it shows what camps are allowed to intercept - so especially when doing a guide for the first time it's wise to keep a good eye on the general and retreat him if he goes to a camp without a white * mark (signifying he is allowed to be intercepted by it).
I suspect that your general placement was not 100% correct, since that is the only way to get intercepted by the wrong camp (Happened to me when I wasn't paying attention a couple of times, including today...could retreat just in time). The final attack is a copy of a very popular setup used on the German forums, so it's a very safe and tested technique - but depends entirely on perfect general placement (noted as thumbnail "8" on the bottem right of the guide).
Hope this clears it up a bit, if I you provide more information I can trace back further what went wrong perhaps. Sorry again for your losses!
-
I did place garrisons as pictures in guide showed and was careful about that.
But i found out what i did wrong. You had right about positions. I didn't see these numbers on yellow line so i did attack both 7 and 8 on position 8.
So it was nothing wrong with guide but it can easily get misunderstanded :)
Just read careful ppls :D
-
Kiltax,
Ah. Well good we found out, although it still hurts to lose xbows. Been there done that, sadly :(
I'm not sure how I can further clarify the positions. Right now I try to convey the positions in the following manner :
- The five thumbnails specifying general positions on the bottom
- The yellow attack markers for rough general positioning on the map
- The attack wave numbers [5,6] for each yellow attack marker
If you can advise how I can further clarify general positions without cluttering the map, I'll take it into consideration :) Thanks!

Nords Adventure:
To get the desired path to take the last camp and skipping the middle and left camp i had to positon my general here:
