No, BB have just been busted for cheating, there's no way they could carry on with their advantage so they must have done something, I'm hoping the german players have quit in disgust after realising their win was manipulated

yawn!! back to the Rugby/F1/tennis/cricket/TdF/ - I had a go!!! and donated probably 30k balloons... but why bother to compete in an pointless competition?
There seems to be a serious case of stupidity in the organisation.... everyone knows how to make a fair system.... you either have one competition with first and last then second and next to last etc as groupings..or you run several small competition groups..
I'm quite happy to see the German/Polish servers winning... just don't expect the rest of us to get very excitited about it!!
Not expecting you to get excited really and the pointlessness of trying to win in a rigged contest is noted. However, some of us are still going to try and get at least 100% for our server group. We are not doing it to win the prizes that we have no hope of winning, but to have the satisfaction of achieving what we can attain. If you aren't competing, could you do your game and let us do ours?
We won't ask you to make balloons if you don't want to, please don't dissuade people who do want to compete from joining in.
well Sto... aren't you a great cheerleader?... I'm not interested in dissuading people, as I said i HAD A GO and did 30k balloons on my short daily visits... but my point is quite valid... I didn't mention the silly gem situation, just the mechanics of running a competition... if you want to keep running into a wall with your head when these competitions come up that's fine.. I tried that... it hurt...
Canute, I can't help seeing the irony in your last post and your username :D Your point is extremely valid as is everybody's on this matter. Maybe its the rebel in me, but I'm not going to be beaten down by the unfair and the unjust just because it hurts on occasions. If BB chooses out of ignorance or desire to treat their customers unfairly, that's their problem. I like Settlers the game, and its the game I choose to play, it doesn't mean I have to play it their way..just because they put us in different teams doesn't mean that we can not look at the rankings and calculate how OUR servers team would have performed had we been teamed together. As such we can have just as valid conception of beating the German server teams as they have of `winning ' from being given an unfair advantage. The 3EU/UK servers have done themselves proud in this respect and them getting a few more extra gems at the end of the event doesn't change our performance or what we are achieving, and what is still left to achieve ;).Quote:

I admit I cleared my PH the night the news broke about the happy hour, but then I remembered the targets I set myself for this event in `MY' game, and BB and other servers were not going to spoil MY game with their actions. So I picked myself up and got back into it. I'm not going to tell you or other players how to play your game, but I would like to think that if you could use some spare capacity of your PH and/or resources to just keep some balloons being produced, you would be helping our servers go from `whining sore losers' to `those that have the metal to complete the task' DESPITE the failings of others....and that has got to be irritating for them...and worth a few balloons :)
Sorry veganbot, I was speculating on how the game managers could probably try to justify the unjustifiable in their meeting tomorrow ( if they have such a thing ). This is the perception I had after the EotW event, and given what has happened I think I may have a point ;)Quote:

I am certainly not implying that by continuing to strive and reach 200% despite this unfairness I am in any way condoning the unfairness, but rather that any argument I make regarding this issue will carry more weight, as it can not be dismissed so easily as coming from someone who is `whining' because it was too difficult or because I did not achieve the goal which was set.
Lulu put this thread up to re-motivate some of you who like myself were very angry about what has happened, and how our trust in BB has been abused so badly. The easiest thing to do would be to no longer take part either on principle or protest or both. But there are more ways to be a winner in a game than just be first past the post, and there are more ways to protest than walking away and not participating, if you think it is the right thing for you to do then you have no argument from me and I will respect you no less for it. I'm posting here to give those that are wavering another option, will a few resources turned into balloons really break your island or game plan? But it could make the difference in getting prizes for the server community and give even more relevance to our criticism of the event and how it has been managed. I won't even promise BB will pay any attention to us the players here on EU/UK servers if we do get 200% or if we stop where we are right now. But I do know that I'm going to make 500k balloons by 23rd July, barring BB locking me out of my island :) For my own satisfaction of beating my challenge to myself, if it annoys BB game fixing event management then that's a bonus right now ( and secretly I'm throwing one of them down every well I build....what can I say I'm evil when I'm angry :) )
For all you ` I am not taking any further part in this fiasco event' Go on make another 10k balloons, I know you want too, I won't tell anyone, it will be our secret ;)
Another solution, to be ready for the next time.
We all make a new account on a Polish server including our other friends from overseas, and in our spare time build up its economy.
Then, when the time comes, and another 'fair competition' begins, we all concentrate our efforts there.
That would hit them in the proverbials, as the ensuing outcry from the German servers would be incredible. ;)
Nogbad - I've got an account on one of the Polish servers and am trying to be as actively inactive as I can be for this event, working on the theory some people have that low level players can 'dilute' the balloons. I'm also watching their chat to pick up any ideas. I had thought that we should ally ourselves with the US, other UK servers, the Czech server that got stuck with Northisle and possibly some of the other servers that got stuck into groups, but there is also the option of helping the Poles beat the Germans. They are not terribly happy with the various advantages that the Germans have been given either and they don't see themselves getting a 'podium finish'. However, they are pretty good at making balloons and cheer each other on the whole time.
Since I would quite like the UK 1 & UK 3 group to pass PL 2, I won't change my tactics for this event unless they really do go up the leaderboard.
Why is everyone accusing BB of "cheating", or rigging the event so the Germans win?
That would be stupendously ridiculous.
It's just good old fashioned incompetence
You're right!
I'm sure that, in amongst all the computer scientists, programmers, technicians and other boffins at BlueByte, there was absolutely nobody smart enough to have the slightest inkling that staggering happy hours across servers would give those that got it earlier any sort of advantage whilst there's a competition running with an award for "The game world that is the fastest".
[/SARCASM]
You imply that person was ignorant of the competion criteria. I say it just as (if not more) likely that they were counting on the Germanic servers spending loads of Euros in order to win... Because that's the kind of way marketing people think... at least the successful ones anyway!
Shouldn't you be saving this for the `happy hour thread';) Positive thinking here now people....like we're gaining on P1 and took 2% out of them today so far...keep up the good work Newfies and Sandycovians ( And Northislers, I'm still rooting for you too :D )
After them comes the first of the German servers, what more motivation do you need? Especially as they will be celebrating reaching 100%...now's the time to catch them napping ( Tortoise and Hare people, Tortoise and hare ;) )
Sorry... It's not so bad for you other guys but, speaking as a Northisler, it's kinda hard to stay motivated when there are currently so many Germanic/Polish teams with around twice my team's total in this so-called "fair" contest... Though, it's not stopping me from producing around 100,000 water per day! :-)
You might like to read this, copied from the global chat on Germany 9 earlier this evening. Now most of the people on there have been very decent sorts, but comments like this have been made several times by people who aren't usually in the chat:
This followed a previous comment about the fact that "The Polish (then a word that Google could/would not translate) still had a very small chance"
Then this:
[ Removed ]
You may get your own translation, but the gist is "...but now we've put lots of money into gems".
What's the first line of that anthem? ;)
(And BB, if you think in any way or form that last comment may have some racist overtones, then I strongly suggest you pull some of the German chat logs, just search for the word Panzer, and a country that certain people still claim does not exist, some interesting comments relating to the Sudetenland as well, and people accuse us of living in the past!)
English only please,

Yes Nogbad, the cynical side of me saw that as well, and if BB marketing strategy was to sell gems by manipulating a competition this way then they can give themselves a well deserved pat on the back. The fact remains that BB will have a much harder time to repeat this again, as it is clear that the trust given to them for a second time to run a `fair' competition will not be so forthcoming for a third. To be honest I can not see them even attempting this again, and they will only do smaller events between localised server groups. ( For me though I still would want to see ALL the calculations upfront, they will not manipulate my trust again)
However onwards and upwards I hit my halfway target this morning 250k balloons :) :) And a big thank you to those lootspot buyers for adding extra hwl to the price that was asked, your the people that make this community great :D
This event is and will never be and never have been fair. The way they paired up the servers.
The ones that benefit the most are those low pop german servers 12 and 15 that got put in with 2 and 3. they're getting carried to the top and getting their 200% prize completion without effort.
its disappointing.
Once you get to 100%, there is no point in trying to go for 200% (those extra gems isn't worth the donations).
Save all your balloons and convert them to coins in the next patch update. You make more money selling balloons than the value of the gems you get from those extra 100% -> 200%
They rigged it so that the required amount of balloons have diminish return. As I noticed somebody has done a stats comparison on the rate of donations.
250k balloons = 2500 coins. You can easily buy watermill or silos with that (value of 600+ gems).
I personally am going to be making balloons and donating them to the end of the even if there is some qued up in ph that wont count when event over fair enough if we can change them into coins like on the test server but i'm not purposely going to store any.
At the end of the day I am doing this for server pride to see how far we can get not give up as soon as we hit 100% whether the rewards are worth it or not its all about pride after 100% not the rewards.
Also I set myself a new target to have donated 2 million balloons in this even so i'm aiming for that already over my 1 million mark yesterday which was my original target I thought I could reach
Bring on the water balloons to the bitter end I say :D
This game was meant to be my bit of fun, a bit of relaxation, I liked the chat and the challenge of moving up the levels, I like to help my guild if I can, I don't have the money to spend on gems (I have only ever bought $5 worth) so I have have to wait a very long time to earn anything, I don't know the ins and outs of why this event has been run the way it has been, all I know is my spare resources are gone I have used them to make thousands and thousands of balloons and whats the point? I have no resources and the bottom 8 on the results table are so far behind the top 8 it's very obvious somethings not right with the way this has been run, I will continue to make what balloons I can but needless to say I'm not a happy bunny. And if they ever run an event like this again I think twice before I participate. And I don't think I will be alone :(
Maybe next time they need to give people the option to opt out of events? Then the people that continue would actually be the ones interested in playing. Another way of doing it would be to ask people to sign up to play an event - opt in.
Or make it so that the top x number of level 50 players from each server compete, based on their activity from a short qualifying phase.
Where are you getting this information that we will be able to convert balloons to coins, for the life of me i don't recall seeing any mention of that.
I will continue to make balloons until we either make it to 200% or the event is over. I am making approximately 170k balloons per day and have donated a little over 1.4 million to date (I can't say for sure just how much we are donating as a guild but we estimate between 750k and 1m daily). I can't say that every member of The Immortals is involved in the event but a heck of a lot of us are. Some are focussing on balloon conversion, some making buffs and some building and rebuilding wells... and this event has brought us closer together as a guild (guild chat has never been busier since I joined). Sure it stinks that the 300% gem bonus was rolled out to some servers before it got to others and there is no doubt that this gives an advantage to those who received it first. Am I disappointed that this occurred? Yes! Am I going to let it affect me to the point that I give up on the event? Definitely not!
Happy settling,
Mr. Halerose (",)
My guess would be that someone is presuming balloons will be the same as pumpkins, presents, footballs and so on, with a conversion button created in the PH. I think they may be very wrong in presuming this! :) I for one will be astonished if balloons are EVER worth coins.
Be aware that there is a post from BB_Pandur on the German forums that it might not be available on the live servers. Or if it does make it, the conversion rate might be less profitable.

Greeting Pandur
Got to say that I am gobsmacked they would even CONSIDER doing this.
This has got to be the stupidest idea EVER, to give people the option to keep hold of their balloons rather than donate them in aid of the competition.
Not forgetting that the german servers have such an advantage over everyone else, that they'll all have at least a week of being able to make balloons after reaching 200% causing a massive gold influx after the event.
Having a weeks worth of balloons which could be converted to gold coin will only affect those german servers, after all they can't transfer it to other servers. What it will do is completely change the nature of their Trade office by driving costs up. A majority of players at the end of the day will see no reward from converting balloons to gold, since their running costs will rise enough to eat through their balloon bonus.
