Rite. Finally i got in. First i switched webreader,uses chrome normally but tried explorer and it worked...cleared all the following again....cache,cookies and dns..so now chrome works again. But try to switch reader first.

I have a same problem, but only on Firefox. I tried Chrome and it works.

I am having this issue since yesterday afternoon. I have cleared cache and dns as suggested with no change. I usually use chrome and have also tried Internet Explorer with no success.
I note that the error screen that comes up shows 'the settlers online BETA' logo, not the usual logo. Perhaps this is relevant?
I will try the suggested fix again after I have finished work.

Yes after clearing the cookies,cache and dns...first i used a different reader and that worked..now im backk on my default one

Still trying to open the game. Not allowed to try other browsers than Explorer on this PC.
Here are couple of reasons why clearing only your computers DNS-cache might not work.
1. Depending on the network you are using it might have its own DNS cache. Some residential gateways (modems and routers) work as DNS proxy and have cache that needs to be also cleared to get the new address resolved correctly.
2. Chrome browser has its own DNS-cache (chrome://net-internals/#dns)
I've had connection failure for more thn 12 hours!!!!!

Nope. Doesn't work, for Firefox or Chrome. Yes I have cleared cache and cookies and everything else, and I have zero issues with anything else I'm running. Just this. For 18 hours now.

hope it going to work soon -.- was on an adventure and it will end up to be timed out if i cant log in soon im on my 18 hours or so
I am getting the same things in Chrome...
However strangely, if you open up Chrome Incognito mode it works fine (hold Ctr-Shft-N)
So that might be a work around for those using chrome.
On macbook pro it worked after logging out, closing safari, quitting safari, reopen en delete cookies (only for thesettlersonline).
I'm getting the same message, this has been since yesterday
added a new web browser - Chrome - never used b4 - same problem - Connection failed

Still after trying all posts,am unable to connect using my normal Chrome browser. Have managed to connect on IE but prefer my normal browser,which up until this morning after maintainence worked fineQuote:

I have done all but I can`t connect :-(
1) i could not connect from my main computer with firefox
2) after reading forum i tried chrome from my laptop and it connected with no problems, so i closed it (just closed browser, no logging off)
3) i tried again firefox in my main computer and now it connected also without problems!!!
i didnt clear anything from anywhere!!!
firefox doesnt work after cache and cookies + dns flsuh.
same with ie
just tried 2 more comps with FF and couldnt log in, the 4th one with chrome doesnt work either. There is a hint in here:P

What is going on???? now 24 hours since I could log in... I hope you're maintaining my island etc while I'm unable to get there...
Got 3 computers, NONE of them can connect to the game... Starts with an error when i log in. Refreshed the site and it looks normal. Pressing the "Play Now" button just get me to this "An error has occured" site.... Rollback please, there are apparantly an error in your server.

Still cannot login after trying different browsers and using the cmd ipconfig /flushdns
