You don't play from work?!

Hey guys and girls, Happy Easter, Take a leaf out of a newbie kinda as since all the problems we have been having i have started to sleep gold production over night due to some technical issues recently. Im hyped about easter event as this my first one. Really gutted i couldnt log in at 7am but oh well it happens and yes very dissapointed. I hope its resolved asap as im eager to start sending my boys out for eggs as well. Dont think im complaining much but anyway i wish you all luck, have fun once we get back to the game :)
Complains are to be expected. BB sets a schedule and we, as players adapt to it. We make our strategy based on that schedule. The only problem I see here is the inability of BB to keep up with their own schedules thus messing for everyone.
any idea of timings for completion of maintenace
I think BB work on the Mushroom management, keep them in the dark and feed them [ removed ]
Hi SnowyTheWarrior,
I understand you are frustrated, but please keep any form of profanity away from the forum.
Thanks,
Fexno
Still unable to log in here
Yeah, problem is today I got a 12-hour working day ahead of me, and because of that I would send off 14 Savage Scouts and 3 regular Explorers on Very Long Treasure Searches (expected return: up to 50 eggs per scout) to return tomorrow when I have time again.
Given that every Scout would return on average about 30 eggs and yesterday each egg was selling 70+ coins on North, that's around 30k coins which I am now at a disadvantage due to not being able to use the first day of the event.
Oh and for the "Get a life" part: I think that's the perfect thing to do for people who have nothing else to do other than tell people on the board on how to arrange their personal spare time.
It's quite shocking to see the level of rudeness coming from players.
What makes me wonder is whether BB doesn't know the concept of "Continuous Integration", doesn't understand how to implement it properly, or doesn't care to provide such a service to their customers.
I introduced CI for a client and they can now normally do Zero Downtime deployment (you don't even lose the session!).
On occasion, when a database migration is required, they take about 10-15 minutes for the scripts to run. But that's rare - and only happens when poor legacy code got refactored.
Id rather maintanence went on longer than i expected to make sure its working properly than to log in and find its unplayable. Great work BB thanks for caring about us players and i will be waiting patiently to be able to play :)
This is an odd attitude. I'd rather maintenance go on a bit longer, than have a BlueByte employee show up and beat me with a baseball bat. I still think they should put some more effort into keeping up with their schedule, and I'm not really that impressed that I haven't been beaten up with a baseball bat.
Hopefully BB just run the active part of the event for an extra day and then we have lost a minimal amount.
Sorry BB but the poor communication indicates lack of respect for your "customers". Please improve in communications.
I have undestanding for the manitenance but not the lack of communication.
Many players have already understood that the maitenance takes longer by the "Play Now" button. Actually for approx 2 hours now!
The bad planning comes from BB, as others have stated they should inform you that maintenance takes 8h instead of 6h, and if they manage to get done ahead of time that's just a good thing. The problem this time is more of the connection issues from 24h ago and then this again in a short amount of time, that is what makes people irritated.
If possible, you always plan for things to take longer time than expected ofc, but you shouldn't have to. Planned for one hour extra this time. but that didn't work either.
When will we be able to get back in the game - this is really annoying!!!
Maybe there was irony there and we failed to detect it?
"I rather spend a couple days in hospital than succumbing to smallpox, since I go to a doctor who doesn't know what vaxing is"
Imagine if Facebook or Google were down like 6-8 hours a week.
Is TSO really that much more complex than Google? Do they have so significantly more customers than Facebook?
No - it's only that BB have crummy, outdated deployment processes which don't meet industry standards.
But of course, it's better to have a 168-hour downtime each week than some unstable software caused by poor engineering practices. :D
Lol whatever floats your boat. Seriously though would you prefer to play a game full of extra glitches? Been down that road wasnt impressed... quit the game and joined TSO.. yes the odd problems but nothing really for me to rather get annoyed about. Oh and yes im a very Odd person :)
Again, taking the vaxing metaphor:
Just because you go to a doctor who doesn't know what vaxing is doesn't mean that dying from smallpox is still normal in the 21st century.
Just because you play a game developed by a company who doesn't know what "engineering practices" are doesn't mean that X-hour-downtimes every week are still normal for IT products.
No, I absolutely wouldn't prefer a game full of even more glitches (TSO is already riddled with them) - my point is that that's not en excuse. They could do much, much worse. But what they're doing still isn't good enough by a long shot. There's no reason to be extremely uncommunicative about the issue. There's no good reason to not set an ETA.
Under normal circumstances, I can understand that maintenance can take some time, and that it's not always possible to fit within the expected schedule. But in the case of TSO, this doesn't really work either. What on earth are they doing to the servers that takes all night? As Sharpelein mentioned, modern deployment can be done with barely any downtime. And no matter what system they're using, there's no good reason for it to take six hours, let alone six hours and then a couple more. It doesn't help that going over the scheduled maintenance time happens all too regularly.
The way BB are handling this maintenance is really lousy. Saying "it could be worse" is technically true, but also meaningless. It could always be worse. It still isn't anywhere near acceptable.
im reading these msgs & it beggars belief....
its a game people, that is run via technology....
if there are glitches, they must be ironed out before it goes back on to mainstream....
or all your whiny ass's will be on here again complaining....
p.s. when the game is down for maintenance, the game is stopped in real time, and resumes when the servers are back up.... so you loose nothing....
perhaps BB should adopt Scotties attitude to maintenance from Star Trek quote a time 2-4 hours longer then when they finish early they look good lol
Assuming everyone is available 24/7 to jump to the login as soon as servers open again.
Some people actually have something called a "Real Life" to which they must subject their potential online time. And these people actually lose a lot (in terms of game progress) when their online windows get blocked unexpectedly.
To suggest that these people subject their "Real Life" to progress in the game outside the usual game spans is the truly nerdy and absurd statement because it implies taking "Real Life" loss in order to proceed in a game.
Absurd.
we just misunderstood the concept of easter event
lol... just made a discovery.....
some people actually set their clocks to wake them up when BB say servers will be back on line....
IT'S A FREAKING GAME lol......
and a browser game at that......
gotta love peoples real lives..... ;)
it's free to play.
"pay peanuts, get monkeys"
You want higher quality, well there's some very good games out there for which you pay.
You choose to spend real coins to get gems, your choice.
I spend a decent amount of euros (100+) to get gems, but I made that choice knowing that TSO is F2P and that I shouldn't expect top notch quality.
My character is "only" lvl 41.
I'm not optimising gold production (I should as it's very expensive in ressources running un-buffed) but hey, am I complaining ?
No. I'm a reasonnable adult, I've weighted my choices and I take responsability for them.
Don't shoot the messenger, don't shoot the devs (or there will be even less of them :D )
Be patient, accept your choices.
Hey Hey guys :),,, having been more or less house bound for the last 7 months,,, Settlers is my saviour, keeping me sane!! And yes,,, i am very much looking forward to the Easter Event, and yes, i was a bit peeved to find i was unable to loggin this morning,,,, but, i have nowhere else to go, so i'll wait, patiently :) thanks TSO Team
Have a little patience. Time to log from forums. Things to do. Happy easter
Im peeved as well, i sent all my explorers out yesterday on long/very long searches so that they would return about 8 am when i log in. Was hoping they would bring a nice load of eggs with them to get me in the mood for more eggs in the islands. Expect they are back now, eggless, and i will lose some hours while they search again. Just remember guys, its ONLY A GAME. Just wave goodbye to the Martial Arts gen as you wont get one now you miss out on a few eggs :D
HI thought open season started..hmm my shotgun ready to hunt some wabbits ,cannot wait longer ...please BB start the season :D
Well ... I would agree with you, but like I already mentioned, Google and Facebook have significantly better processes.
As does Wikipedia and many other services which are also free.
Just happens to be that nowadays, a software engineer is (or should I say: "should be") more than a monkey hitting the keyboard, hoping that the gumbo somehow compiles.
Providing a F2P game is no excuse for crummy processes.
It only reveals a company that has no control over themselves and is therefore at danger of losing control over their products, therefore their sales (i.e. bankruptcy).
That BB can't make enough money from F2P to sustain a high quality product is a sign of marketing failure as well, not an excuse.
The industry is tough. Adapt or die. And serving poor quality under pretenses of "It's free" doesn't go very far with people who grew up in "Generation Google".
